Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless announced with replaceable battery and aptX Lossless support!

Sennheiser has officially launched its Momentum 5 as the direct successor to the Momentum 4 lineup. The new over-ear headphones bring improved ANC, aptX Lossless support, Spatial Audio, and up to 57 hours of battery life compared to the previous generation. 

However, the main highlight of the headphones is the user-replaceable battery design, which is still quite rare in the premium segment. In this article, I will discuss everything you need to know about the Sennheiser Momentum 5, including its features, specifications, availability, and expected price in Nepal. 

Sennheiser Momentum 5 Overview

Design and Comfort

Starting with the design, the Momentum 5 continues the familiar over-ear form factor seen in its predecessor but with a few refinements. It still comes with a clean, minimal aesthetic with a matte-plastic chassis, but Sennheiser has now removed the raised circular ring around the touch surface for a more seamless look. 

The most notable physical change this time is the improved repairability. Unlike the fully sealed construction on the previous generation, the right earcup on the Momentum 5 can now be opened to access and replace the 700mAh battery when needed, making it suitable for long-term use. The headphones are available in Black, White, and Denim color options. 

Likewise, the earcups can still swivel flat to rest around the neck or be placed on a flat surface when not in use. It weighs around 290g.

Active Noise Cancellation

For noise cancellation, the Sennheiser Momentum 5 comes with an upgraded ANC system compared to the Momentum 4, designed to reduce background noise during everyday use, such as commuting or being in crowded environments.

The new headphones feature four digital microphones per side, which help improve noise reduction, especially in midrange frequencies. It also includes a transparency mode that allows outside sounds to pass through when required.

Audio

On the audio side, the headphones use 42mm dynamic drivers tuned for a balanced and detailed sound output. It comes with Hi-Res Audio certification and Snapdragon Sound technology for high-resolution wireless playback supporting aptX Lossless, AAC, and SBC codecs. However, aptX Lossless only works with compatible devices, so full lossless audio quality can differ depending on the device.

Additionally, the Momentum 5 supports Spatial Audio with head tracking, delivering a more immersive listening experience by keeping sound anchored in place even when you move your head, enhancing movies, music, and gaming experiences.

In terms of battery life, the Momentum 5 offers up to 57 hours of playback on a single charge with ANC enabled, which is slightly lower than its predecessor. It also supports fast charging, where a quick 5-minute charge can deliver up to 3 hours of playback. 

On the connectivity side, the headphones come with Bluetooth 5.4 and support multipoint connection, meaning you can pair two devices at the same time. Likewise, it also includes a USB Type-C port for charging and a 3.5mm jack for wired listening when needed.
