The iPhone 16 series left me a bit disappointed with its upgrades, so I’m hoping we’ll see some good changes with the upcoming iPhone 17. A new rumor has recently surfaced suggesting that the iPhone 17 series could feature a Vapor Chamber which may help resolve the device’s heating issues. Let’s take a closer look at this information.
Vapor Chamber in iPhone 17
Better late than never!
Vapor chambers aren’t new to Android manufacturers, they have been using them to cool their devices for years. Now, it looks like Apple may be considering joining that trend.
What exactly is a vapor chamber?
Vapor Chamber is a cooling system that contains a small amount of liquid typically deionized water (water with a very low concentration of ions) for better coolant compared to regular water. As the phone heats up, the liquid evaporates into a gas, then cools and condenses, creating a continuous cycle of evaporation and condensation. This helps maintain a cool temperature in the long run.
An ultimate solution to iPhone’s heating issues?
iPhones have always struggled with heat dissipation due to their powerful components packed into a compact design. As a result, the device relies on passive heat transfer, with the heat moving through the frame and disolving into the surrounding air. This means the external casing acts as the primary heat sink.
While this setup works to some extent, again, heating has always been a problem, especially during heavier workloads like gaming or 4K recording. If the vapor chamber rumor turns out to be true, I won’t have to use my iPhone to iron my shirt, hahaha!

Hold your horses!
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Apple has been rumored to adopt a vapor chamber. Similar reports surfaced in 2021, but because the reliability test results could not meet Apple’s high requirements the company did not adopt VC to its phones. So let’s wait until the company itself claims this news. However, if the rumor proves accurate this time, I think it will be a great step forward for Apple.
