Motorola Edge 70 Plus launched with a 144Hz AMOLED display and 6,500mAh battery!

Motorola has added a new phone to its Edge 70 lineup with the launch of the Motorola Edge 70 Plus. The phone comes with a 144Hz OLED display, Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, 200MP main camera, and a 6,500mAh battery. Motorola is also putting some focus on durability with an IP64 rating and MIL-STD-810H certification. In this article, I will discuss the Motorola Edge 70 Plus in detail, including its expected price in Nepal, specifications, and availability.

Motorola Edge 70 Plus Overview

Design and Display

Starting with the design, the Motorola Edge 70 Plus comes with a quad-curved body where the curves continue from the front to the back. This not only gives the phone a more premium appearance but should also make it more comfortable to hold, especially during longer sessions of scrolling, watching videos, or gaming. 

Here, you get the option to choose between “PANTONE Mountain View” with a deep green silk-textured finish, “Gray Lilac” with an acetate-style finish, and “Milky Blue” and “Sage” with vegan leather finishes. For durability, Motorola comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, an IP64 rating, and MIL-STD certification in this phone.

Up front, the Edge 70 Plus features a 6.78-inch 1.5K Extreme AMOLED panel with a 1.5K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. The combination should make the phone particularly enjoyable for media consumption, as the AMOLED panel can deliver deep blacks and strong contrast, while the high refresh rate makes scrolling and animations feel smoother. It also supports HDR10+ and Pantone Validated calibration, so the display should offer more accurate-looking colours rather than simply pushing saturation.

Additionally, Motorola claimed 5,200-nit peak brightness in this phone, along with SGS-certified low blue-light emission, DC dimming, and reduced motion blur to provide comfortable viewing during long hours of use.  It also has stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, which should make the Edge 70 Plus a capable device for watching movies and playing games without needing headphones right away.

Performance and Software

Under the hood, the Motorola Edge 70 Plus uses the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3—a 4nm upper-midrange chipset. This is the same chip that was used in last year's Fairphone 6 and Realme P3 Pro 5G. So, it should be more than capable for everyday tasks such as browsing, social media, multitasking, streaming, and photography. Motorola has also added a vapor chamber cooling system, which should help the phone maintain more consistent sustained performance during extended hours of use.

In terms of memory, the phone comes with 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Motorola has also included RAM Boost, which can use storage as additional virtual memory when needed. On the software side, the Edge 70 Plus runs Android 16 and brings Google's AI features, including Gemini Live and Circle to Search. On top of that, Motorola also promises up to 3 major OS updates and 5 years of security patches.

Battery and Camera

Coming to the battery, the Motorola Edge 70 Plus packs a 6,500mAh battery and claims up to 61 hours of battery life. During Motorola's lab test, they also claim to get up to 42 hours of talk time, 34 hours of video streaming, or 23 hours of social media use. For charging, the phone supports 45W TurboPower wired charging. Motorola has also included 7.5W wired reverse charging and bypass charging, giving more flexibility to those of you who spend a lot of time gaming while connected to a charger.

For photography, the Edge 70 Plus takes a fairly straightforward approach with a 200MP primary camera with OIS, accompanied by a 2MP macro camera. With this setup, it should handle handheld photography in low light and keep video footage pretty steady. On the front, there is a 32MP selfie camera with 4K video recording and Adaptive Stabilization, which should be useful for group selfies and video calls.

In Europe, the Motorola Edge 70 Plus is priced at EUR 599.99 (~$697, INR 65,910) for the 8/256GB model. Motorola also says the phone will roll out in select countries across Europe and the Middle East in the coming weeks. If this launches here, we expect the Motorola Edge 70 Plus price in Nepal to be NPR 110,999.
