Funtouch OS used to be one of the most recognizable Android skins out there. But Vivo’s finally moving on, as it’s phasing out Funtouch for good. From here on, all international Vivo phones will ship with OriginOS, and the newest version, OriginOS 6, just went official at Vivo’s annual developer conference, held alongside BlueOS 3 and CarLink 3.0. Based on Android 16, the update brings a full design overhaul, a bunch of AI-driven features, and smoother overall performance. The global rollout will start on October 15, 2025.

Vivo OriginOS 6 Overview

Redesigned User Interface

OriginOS 6 gets a major visual overhaul that Vivo describes as having a “spatial and layered feel.” The home page, lock screen, and app layouts have been redesigned with smoother curves and cleaner spacing. The new design seems to draw clear inspiration from Apple’s Liquid Glass aesthetic or at least that’s what many users online are saying.

Following that, some have accused Vivo of ditto copying Apple’s design, but others have pointed out saying it’s “not even Liquid Glass” but rather “it’s their Aquamorphic design introduced with ColorOS 13 in 2022. And the new Light & Shadow effects already existed before on HarmonyOS in 2024.” Either way, the interface now features curved widgets, circular icons, and in-depth customization options for the home screen.

Performance Improvements

The update integrates Vivo’s Blue River Smooth Engine, which improves computing efficiency and responsiveness. There’s also a dual rendering architecture, which makes animations feel much smoother and app switching faster. Overall, the interface is expected to feel snappier compared to the previous version.

New AI Features

Vivo has packed in several AI features this time. There’s a new AI phone assistant with summarization and contextual understanding of on-screen content. You also get AI photo elimination, object and people removal (even from Live Photos), and AI image resolution enhancement.

Other features include Circle to Search 2.0, AI summary, and picture-to-PDF conversion, which will help users do what they can without relying on third-party tools.
