Xiaomi just dropped its flagship series at Lei Jun’s Annual Speech 2025 in Beijing. But this time around, they’ve jumped one series from Xiaomi 15 to Xiaomi 17 series, perhaps in an attempt to catch up with iPhone (considering how the 17 Pro and Pro Max naming is now identical to iPhone’s, plus their camera module looks similar). But in this article, I will discuss everything about the latest Xiaomi 17, including its expected price in Nepal, specifications, and availability.
Xiaomi 17 Overview
Display and Design
The 6.3-inch M10 LTPO AMOLED display uses Xiaomi’s latest generation panel technology. Through which you’re getting 3,500 nits peak brightness compared to 3,200 nits on the Xiaomi 15. Those 1.18mm uniform bezels come from LIPO packaging technology, the same method Apple uses for their Pro models.
The phone is 8.06mm thick and weighs 191g. Xiaomi calls it their “Superior R-angle design” with 1.18mm ultra-narrow bezels on all four sides. The frame has slight curves that wrap around the edges. The Dragon Crystal Glass is supposedly 10 times more drop-resistant than whatever they used before.
They’ve also bumped the water resistance to IP69, which is overkill but whatever. The rest of the specs are pretty standard. You get that flat aluminum frame, and matte glass back that doesn’t show fingerprints as much. It comes in Black, White, Blue, and Pink
Performance
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset, which was launched yesterday. We’ve discussed this chip in detail in a separate article. This beast hits around 4 to 4.4 million in the AnTuTu benchmark. You can easily play the most demanding games at maxed-out settings. Stuff like PUBG can easily run at 120fps.
But I must remark that performance improvements in flagship phones have become boring because most people don’t need peak raw performance at all. But I’m more interested in how this chip will work out for other features, because the new Gen 5 features world’s first mobile AV1 codec support for professional video recording.
Anyway, the Oryon V3 Phoenix cores run at higher frequencies than the V2 generation in Xiaomi 15. Performance clusters hit 4.6 GHz versus 4.32 GHz, while efficiency cores jumped from 3.53 GHz to 3.62 GHz. The 4,497mm sq. vapor chamber covers both the main SoC and charging circuitry.
Optics
The triple 50MP setup looks identical to the Xiaomi 15 on paper. The main sensor keeps that 1/1.31″ size, but the aperture has slightly changed. The telephoto lens maintains the 10cm close focus distance as usual. But Xiaomi has now switched the ultra-wide camera from 14mm equivalent (115° FoV) to 17mm equivalent (102° FoV). You get less coverage but should see reduced barrel distortion and better edge sharpness.
The front camera jumped from 32MP to 50MP and added PDAF support. Leica’s Master Portrait Mode continues with what they claim is better hair detail rendering and more natural skin tones. The color spectrum sensor works with the laser autofocus system for white balance accuracy.

Battery
Xiaomi claims 7,000mAh capacity in a 8.06mm thick body using silicon-carbon technology with 16% silicon content. Traditional lithium-ion batteries use graphite anodes, but silicon stores more lithium. The problem has always been silicon expansion during charging cycles. But we’ve seen inflated battery claims from Chinese manufacturers before, so real-world testing will matter more than these numbers.
The 100W wired charging is up from the 15’s 90W. Reverse wireless charging doubled from 10W to 22.5W.
Connectivity and Software
Wi-Fi 7 support puts this ahead of most Android flagships still using Wi-Fi 6E. Bluetooth 5.4 adds LHDC 5 support, Qualcomm’s competitor to Sony’s LDAC codec. Similarly, Android 16 with HyperOS 3 ships out of the box. The infrared blaster remains, which most other brands have dropped.
