Smartphones have nearly reached their boiling point in terms of innovation. Changes from one generation to another are mostly just incremental. Given that, tech companies have now shifted their focus to smart wearables — XR headsets as well as smartglasses. Now another big-time player — Xiaomi, is entering this market. Let’s talk about what we know about Xiaomi’s smartglasses so far.
Xiaomi AI Smartglasses Rumours Round-up
What to expect?
As per a Chinese source i.e. IT Home, Xiaomi is working on smartglasses which will reportedly be powered with AI. These glasses will presented as a direct competitor to the Ray-Ban Meta. As such, Xiaomi’s offering will likely come with similar design and functionalities. We can expect it to be equipped with cameras, microphones, and speakers for input and output.
It will definitely offer all the general features like POV photo-and-videography, music playing, phone calls, etc. In the meantime, the Xiaomi Smartglasses will utilise AI for more complex tasks like object and monument recognition, encyclopedias, answering live queries, and so on. Furthermore, these glasses could serve as a virtual assistant too — helping you plan your day and routes, and reminding you of events.

Xiaomi 🤝 Goertek
The earlier source also reported that Xiaomi is partnering with Goertek for its AI Smartglasses. Goertek is a Chinese electronics company that designs and manufactures components and devices for consumer electronics. Their portfolio includes audio products, VR headsets, and smart wearables. Likewise, its clientele includes popular brands like Sony, Meta, Samsung, and even Apple.
The company is a dominant force in the field of XR devices and smart wearables and this partnership will give Xiaomi access to their experience and resources. This will also help the owners of the Redmi sub-brand put up a fight against the likes of Meta and Baidu.
Xiaomi AI Smartglasses Launch and Availability
Rumours say both companies have been working on the smartglasses for a few months now. The Xiaomi AI Smartglasses might hit the market in the second quarter of 2025, and the company CEO Lei Jun apparently expect to ship above 300,000 units. At this time, it is unclear if the wearable will be available internationally or remain within its home country only.
