Coolpad Officially Arrives in Nepal with 4 New Smartphones

Coolpad is not a household name here in Nepal. But if its global reach is taken into consideration, the company has been a leading name in the Research and Development of smartphones as well as in the manufacturing sector. Like most of the Chinese smartphone manufacturers, Coolpad too has been selling some excellent smartphones at a low cost.

Coolpad was established in 1993 and has been a popular name in the global wireless communication market. It was a pioneer in the development of Dual mode and Dual Standby Handset devices. For its innovations and inventions, the company has won lots of awards.

And now, Coolpad has entered the already saturated Nepali market via Jaima International Pvt. Ltd., which will serve as its only official distributor. But the company can price the devices right, it will surely achieve its goal of being one of the top 5 smartphone brands here in Nepal.

At an event in Hyaat Regency yesterday, James Du, CEO, Coolpad Global and Ganesh Bahadur Shrestha, Chairman, Jaima International, together declared the arrival of Coolpad smartphones in Nepal. Coolpad Nepal launched four new smartphones: Cool1, Note 3S, Mega 3 and Mega 2.5D.

Coolpad Cool1:

Coolpad has many hopes from the Cool1 as it is one of the flagships of the company. Priced at Rs. 30,996, the device comes with some high-end specifications. The device sports a 5.5-inch 1080p display with gorilla glass 3 protection, however, lacks the 2.5D curved glass. It comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box with EUI 5.6. A 64-bit Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor runs the show. It is aided by 4GB of RAM and Adreno 510 GPU. With such configuration, you can expect an excellent performance.

In the event, Mr. Sachin, a representative from Qualcomm, gave a brief overview on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 chipset. It is the same chipset used in the Coolpad Cool1. He claimed Snapdragon 652 to be better than even SD801 in some aspects. Both these chipsets were designed based on 28nm HPm technology, they had some differences as well. That said, he didn’t put much light on the differences. But he addressed the crowd by explaining key elements that can be found within the SoC. This 64 Bit octa-core CPU is clocked at 1.8GHz. He talked about X8 LTE modem used inside, Adreno 510 GPU, and Qualcomm always aware technology which was among the key highlights of the SD652.

One of the major selling points of the Cool1 is its camera, as it is equipped a 13-megapixel dual rear-facing camera, the first of its kind here in Nepal with f/2.0 aperture and Dual-tone LED flash. This is surely a welcome addition in this device the dual cameras bring out good color reproduction, depth, and details in every picture. The front-facing camera measures 8-megapixel. It is equipped with 80-degree wide angle lens. A large 4060 mAh battery backs up the device.


The first 13MP sensor on the Cool 1 handles color, while the second 13MP sensor takes care of depth, detail, and brightness.

Launched in November last year, the Coolpad Note 3S is priced at Rs. 20,996. It features a 5.5-inch 720p IPS LCD display. Underneath the hood, it is powered by an Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 415 processor. The processor is coupled with 3GB of RAM and Adreno 405 GPU. Software wise, the Note 3S runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow right out of the box. For the photography lovers, the device comes equipped with a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, both with f/2.2 aperture. The Note 3S features a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. A decent 2500 mAh Li-Po battery powers the device.

The Coolpad Mega 3 has a tall 5.5-inch display with the resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and 269 ppi. The device is powered by a Quad-core MediaTek MT6737 processor clocked at 1.25GHz. The processor is coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 64GB via microSD card. On the software front, the Mega 3 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. Optics-wise, the device comes with an 8-megapixel rear-facing and front-facing cameras.

The Coolpad Mega 3 is backed up by a 3050 mAh battery which could last you long because of the 720p display. It is priced at Rs. 17,496.

The cheapest among the bunch launched today, the Coolpad Mega 2.5D is a decent smartphone. It sports a 5.5-inch display with the resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The Mega 2.5D houses a Quad-core MediaTek MT6735 processor clocked at 1GHz and 3GB of RAM. The device comes with 16GB of onboard storage which is expandable up to 32GB. Optics wise, it packs 8-megapixel rear-facing and front-facing camera sensors. The Coolpad Mega 2.5D is powered by a 2500mAh battery. Coolpad Nepal has priced the device at Rs. 16,496.
