Honor Magic 9 Pro Max arrives with dual 200MP cameras, ARRI cinema colors

Honor has officially launched the Magic 9 Pro Max as its latest flagship smartphone with a strong focus on photography. The phone is the company's brand-new lineup and comes with a dual 200MP camera setup. Honor has also partnered with ARRI to bring more advanced features, making its camera one of its biggest talking points. Additionally, it brings a 6.8-inch OLED display, a 120Hz refresh rate, a huge 8,800mAh battery, and a premium design. In this article, I will cover everything about the Honor Magic 9 Pro Max, including its specifications, availability, and expected price in Nepal.

Honor Magic 9 Pro Max Overview

Design and Display

Starting with the design, the Honor Magic 9 Pro Max features a metal unibody design with a redesigned rear camera module. The camera island is quite different from the previous generation, with a large rectangular housing and a prominent circular camera ring that also carries the ARRI branding. It comes in Moss Green, Silver Salt, and Shadow Black color options. The phone measures 8.59mm thick and weighs 233 grams, so it is not exactly a lightweight device, partly due to its large battery and camera hardware.

Moving on to the display, the Magic 9 Pro Max gets a 6.8-inch OLED panel with a 1.5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. It also features Honor's new Black Diamond screen, which can reach a peak brightness of 10,000 nits. The display uses an anti-reflective coating with a claimed reflectivity as low as 1.5%, which should help keep the screen more visible in bright outdoor conditions.

Likewise, the screen also supports an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz, allowing it to lower the refresh rate for less demanding content and increase it when smoother motion is needed. For eye comfort, Honor has included several features such as 4,320Hz PWM dimming, hardware-level low blue light protection, and TÜV Rheinland certifications.

Camera and Battery

The camera is one of the highlighted parts of the Honor Magic 9 Pro Max. It features a dual 200MP camera setup. The main camera uses a large 1/1.28-inch sensor with an f/1.57 aperture and 3-degree gimbal-level stabilization. Meanwhile, the 200MP periscope telephoto camera has a 1/1.4-inch sensor and 3.5x optical zoom, alongside a 50MP ultra-wide camera.

Honor has also partnered with ARRI for the phone's imaging system, bringing features such as ARRI LogC3 and 87 ARRI Looks for photography and video. The phone also uses Honor's H1 imaging chip for RAW-domain noise reduction, while its directional microphone system is designed to improve audio capture when recording videos. This makes the phone particularly interesting for users who want to do more than just point and shoot.

On the front, there is a 55MP selfie camera. Honor also offers optional telephoto converters, including the G200 and G500, for users who want to push the phone's zoom capabilities further. The company claims it can pick up sound from up to 20 meters away, which could be useful when recording subjects from a distance.

Coming to the battery, the Honor Magic 9 Pro Max packs a massive 8,800mAh battery with support for 100W wired and 80W wireless charging. It also supports 50W wireless car charging with compatible vehicles.

Performance and Software

Under the hood, the Honor Magic 9 Pro Max is powered by Qualcomm’s latest flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, built on a 2nm process. It is paired with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage, giving the phone plenty of room for demanding apps, multitasking, and high-end gaming. 

For thermal management, Honor has equipped the phone with its advanced Plate-level cooling system 2.0 to help rapidly dissipate heat during demanding workloads. This setup ensures the device maintains more consistent, sustained performance during long gaming sessions and intensive processing tasks.

On the software side, the Honor Magic 9 Pro Max runs MagicOS 11 based on Android 17. Honor has also added a range of AI features to the software, including tools for productivity, image editing, and everyday tasks. The phone also comes with an AI button that can be customized for quick access to different functions.

The Honor Magic 9 Pro Max is officially launched in China with a starting price of CNY 6,499 for the base variant 12/256GB. The 12/512GB model is priced at CNY 6,999, while the 16/512GB model is priced at CNY 7,499. For the top-end variant, 16GB/1TB costs CNY 8,499, and the16GB/1TB variant with the Photography Master Kit version is priced at CNY 10,999.

Honor has not made any announcement regarding its availability in the local market yet. However, if it gets introduced here, you can expect the Honor Magic 9 Pro Max price in Nepal to be around NPR 148,699 for the base model.
