Apple is set to introduce the iPhone 17 Air in 2025, replacing the iPhone 16 Plus. The company is reportedly making this change due to lower-than-expected sales of the Plus models. The iPhone 17 Air will focus on a lightweight and compact build while maintaining flagship-level features. This article will discuss everything about the upcoming iPhone 17 Air, including its launch date.
iPhone 17 Air Overview
Design & Display
The iPhone 17 Air will be Apple’s thinnest iPhone yet, measuring between 5.5mm and 6.25mm. In comparison, the iPhone 16 Pro is 8.25mm thick, and the iPhone 6 was 6.9mm. The device follows Apple’s Air branding, prioritizing a slim profile. However, it will come with trade-offs such as a single rear camera and the removal of the bottom speaker. Instead, it will rely on a single speaker built into the earpiece.
The device will feature a 6.6-inch ProMotion OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Apple is also bringing the Always-On Display feature, which was previously limited to Pro models.
Performance
Apple will equip the iPhone 17 Air with the A19 chip, which is not as powerful as the A19 Pro found in higher-end models. The device will have 8GB of RAM and is expected to support Apple Intelligence features. It will be optimized for everyday tasks, gaming, and AI functions.

Battery & Modem
Apple will use a high-density battery to compensate for the ultra-thin design, but battery life remains a concern. The phone will feature Apple’s in-house C1 modem, introduced in the iPhone 16e. This modem is designed to improve power efficiency. Additionally, the iPhone 17 Air will be eSIM-only, removing the physical SIM tray worldwide.
Camera
The iPhone 17 Air will have a single 48MP rear camera. It will support 2x “optical-like” zoom but will not include an ultra-wide lens. The camera module will be housed in a camera bar design.
