Lenovo refreshed its gaming laptop lineup back in January where we got to see a new iteration of the Legion Pro 5i as well. The machine has finally its way here, so let’s take a quick look at the 2024 edition of the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i (Gen 9), its features, full specifications, price in Nepal, and availability details.

Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 9 Overview:

Design and Display

The new Legion Pro 5 is more of a subtle refresh than a meaningful upgrade both in the looks and performance department. You get a solid gaming laptop with a metal build that is portable and stylish enough to use during classes or meetings. It weighs around 2500 grams with ports on the sides and back alongside subtle Legion / Lenovo brandings on the lid.

Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 9 design

Just like the more expensive Legion Pro 7i (2024), the Pro 5 can be purchased with a high-res WQXGA screen running at 240Hz. Alongside Dolby Vision and DisplayHDR 400 support, you also get gorgeous P3 colors on the higher-end configuration. The 16-inch IPS screen is similar to the one on its predecessor with up to 500 nits of brightness and anti-glare coating.

Performance and Memory

Legion Pro 5i Gen 9 includes recent Raptor Lake refresh HX series Intel Core processors. Now, you can get the Legion Pro 5i (2024) with Core i5-14500HX, Core i7-14650HX, Core i7-14700HX, and the flagship Core i9-14900HX. GPU options and configuration remain the same as last year offering up to an NVIDIA RTX 4070 with 8GB of VRAM, and a 140W TGP.  You can use ‘Advanced Optimus’ to switch to the integrated Iris Xe graphics to save on battery during everyday use.

Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 9 fans

There are dual intake fans that pull air from the bottom and exhaust out the sides and the back. On the memory end, the Legion Pro can be equipped with up to 32GB of 3200MHz-DDR5 RAM and 2 terabytes of SSD storage. The M.2 2280 slot is pre-occupied with the default drive, but you can add your own M.2 2242 card to expand if necessary.

Ports and Battery

In the tank, we get to see an 80Wh Lithium polymer battery with fast charging speeds. If you use the provided 300W slim tip adapter, you can take your Legion Pro 5i from 0 to 40% in just 10 minutes or get an 80% charge (0-80%) in half an hour. Battery life, as per our experience with Legion Pro laptops, is likely to be workable but not amazing. It likely edges out most gaming laptops that house smaller 50 or 60Wh cells, but that still means only 4-5 hours of actual work that you can pull off unplugged.

Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 9 ports

As for ports and connectivity,  you get a plethora of options with a total of four Type-A ports,  two Type-C ports, an Ethernet port, and an audio combo jack. For wireless connectivity, there’s a replaceable WiFi 6E card alongside Bluetooth 5.2.

Should you buy it?

The Legion Pro lineup of gaming laptops is for those willing to spend a little extra for a premium gaming experience. If you can afford the ask, it is most often worth it to go for the latest Legion Pro 5. Furthermore, the latest Core i7 14650HX, RTX 4060 is available for below 2.3 lakh which is a very good deal. Hence, there are no glaring flaws with the Legion Pro 5i Gen 9 and you can purchase it with

That being said, we are pretty sure that the new iteration will start above NPR 250,000 for the i7/4060 combo which might be the best value if you look at current deals for the 2023 model. Right now, you can get your hands on a VERY similar machine with a slightly weaker CPU (13th gen HX or Ryzen 7000 HX) and the same GPU in the NPR 200,000-240,000 range. As such, we would suggest most folks to consider those alternatives first. But if you can afford it and want the latest and greatest, the Legion Pro Pi Gen 9 will NOT disappoint you in most regards.
