Two weeks ago, there were hints about Honor brand coming to Nepal. And now, it is official. Honor is here. And for many of you asking us about the Honor 8X and Honor Play…yes, these phones are here too, along with two others. But…and that’s a big but, your excitement may die down after you hear the prices.

Kratos Technologies Pvt. Ltd. is the official distributors of the Honor brand in Nepal. And while Honor is an online retailing brand in other countries, they will be selling the phones only via offline channels in Nepal. The reasons for this should be obvious.

The other two phones launching are the Honor 7s and 7A. These two are budget phones that will cost below Rs. 20000 in Nepal.

Honor 7S

The Honor 7s is the modest of the bunch with similar specs. A 5.45″ LCD screen with 18:9 aspect ratio, but only HD resolution display is what you get. Plus, it has a low-range MediaTek MT6739 chipset with 2 GB or RAM. The cameras it pack are also a 13 MP at the rear with a 5 MP at the front. Even though this phone debuted in May, it seems so last year with the specs. For a modest specs, the price is not very modest. The Honor 7s costs Rs.15,490 now. Indian pricing is INRs. 7000, and here, this phone costs more than twice that price. Think about it.

Honor 7A

The Honor 7A has minor improvements over the 7s. It comes with a slightly larger 5.7″ display with HD+ resolution. It packs dual cameras at the back – a 13 MP primary camera and a 2 MP depth sensor. Also, it packs a Snapdragon 430 inside with 2 GB RAM, which is slightly better than what the 7s has. However, with a price tag of Rs.18490, I’d say it is overpriced…by a lot! In India, it costs INR.7500 which converts to some Rs.12000. Do the math!

Honor 8X

Moving on to the mid-range department, we have the Honor 8X first. It is among the most hyped phone internationally as well as in Nepal. And for good reason. This phone has a large 6.5″ Full HD display in 19.5:9 aspect ratio on a glass body. It also packs a 20 MP primary camera paired with a 2 MP depth sensor at the back, and a 16 MP selfie camera up front. These cameras also boast Huawei’s AI technology. With a Kirin 710 chipset inside and 4 GB RAM, it is a good mid-ranger device. Plus, it also features Huawei’s Turbo boost for gaming.

This phone is priced at Rs. 32490 for 64 GB version and Rs. 36490 for the 128 GB version. Again, compare it to prices of Indian market…and you’ll probably turn away. It costs INR.15000 for the 64 GB variant, and here, the price is more than twice that. Not justified by any means. For the price of the 128 GB variant, we can get the Nova 3i…which is a stunning mid-ranger, and a much better deal.

Honor Play

Last of the bunch, and the phone that was asked about the most, the Honor Play is known for intense performance and gameplay. It has a flagship grade processor powering it, and has similar aesthetics as well. This phone has 6.3″ IPS LCD display with Full HD+ resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It features dual rear cameras comprising of a 16 MP primary shooter and a 2 MP depth sensor. It also packs a 16 MP camera in the front. Powering the device is the Kirin 970 chipset, found in the likes of last year’s flagship phones like Huawei P20 Pro.

Also, it has 4 GB RAM to match with the powerful chipset. With a Mali G72 GPU and GPU Turbo Boost technology, it boasted about its gaming prowess as well. The phone may be comparable to the Pocophone F1 in some aspects, but the price, however, is not. It costs Rs. 42490 in Nepal, and that seems a bit too much to ask. For Rs.7000 less, we can get the Pocophone F1, whose performance is far better than this.

Honor Mobiles price in Nepal (Summary)

Honor Models Price
Honor 7s   Rs. 13,990
Honor 7A   Rs. 16,490
Honor 8X   Rs. 32,490 (64 GB) | Rs. 36,490 (128 GB)

While we’re still on the price, Honor phones are great, no doubt. But the pricing seems a bit steep, especially, when you compare it to Indian pricing. And that might cause Honor to lose a lot of Nepali fans. What might be the reason for such pricing? Maybe we’ll know in their launch event this Wednesday. But in the meantime, do let us know if you will go for these phones or sit them out.
