MediaTek has officially unveiled two new chipsets in its Dimensity lineup. Here we are talking about the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 and Dimensity 7400X, successors to last year’s Dimensity 7300. The latter is particularly focused on flip-style foldable phones with dual-display support. Let’s dive into the details of these two new processors.
MediTek Dimesity 7400 and 7400X Overview
Performance
When it comes to raw performance, there isn’t a massive leap in improvements. Both the Dimensity 7400 and 7400X feature an octa-core CPU with 4x Arm Cortex-A78 cores running at 2.6GHz and 4x Arm Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz. So, it’s pretty much a slight bump in clock speed from the previous generation. The good news is both chips are built on TSMC’s 4nm process, and they bring power savings by 14% less power for the 7400 and 36% less for the 7400X during gaming in comparison to other chips in the market.

As for graphics, MediaTek hasn’t made many changes here either. Both chips feature the old Arm Mali-G615 MC2 GPU but this time with support MediaTek’s Advanced Gaming Technology (MAGT) 3.0. On the good side, the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) has been upgraded with a 15% performance boost over the Dimensity 7300.
Memory and Rest
In terms of memory, the Dimensity 7400 supports LPDDR5 and LPDDR4x up to 6400 Mbps (same again), with storage compatibility for UFS 3.1 and UFS 2.2.
For camera performance, you’re getting the Imagiq 950 ISP, which can handle up to 200MP cameras and 4K HDR video recording at 30fps. It also comes with AI-driven autofocus, video EIS, and hardware face detection for better photography and video quality.
On the display side, MediaTek’s MiraVision 955 engine supports vibrant visuals, offering options like WFHD+ at 120Hz or Full HD+ at 144Hz. Connectivity is top-notch with 5G support, offering a peak downlink speed of 3.37 Gbps. Plus you get a tri-band WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4.
What sets them apart?
Although the Dimensity 7400 and 7400X have almost identical specs, the 7400X is for foldable devices, with a focus on improved power efficiency. On the other hand, the regular Dimensity 7400 is for more traditional smartphones. So, while there are some small improvements in comparison to the 7300, these new chips don’t bring any game-changing upgrades. In many ways, it’s fair to call them a rebrand of the 7300, much like how the Dimensity 6400 was a rebrand of the 6300.
MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Availability
The first smartphones featuring the Dimensity 7400 and 7400X will hit the market in Q1 2025. However, the Dimensity 6400 is already available on some devices now.
