OnePlus 16 Overview
Design and Display
Starting with the design, the OnePlus 16 looks similar to its predecessor, retaining a flat display and a square camera module. However, its new color options bring some interesting changes to the rear design. It comes in three finishes: Tomorrow Starlight (grey), Martian Masterpiece (orange), and Dark Forest (black).
Here, the Tomorrow Starlight variant stands out with an interactive breathing light built into the rear glass panel. It illuminates the OnePlus branding and celestial coordinates when certain notifications or features are active. Both the grey and orange variants also feature a distinctive pattern beneath the rear surface, while the Starlight finish uses a refined silk glass process. The orange variant, meanwhile, uses a glass-fiber-reinforced composite back.

OnePlus has also added a dedicated physical button on the left side, while the power and volume buttons sit on the right edge. For durability, the phone uses OPPO's custom Crystal Shield Glass on the front and back, alongside IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance.
The phone measures between 8.45mm and 8.55mm thick and weighs 217 to 220 grams, depending on the color. That's fairly compact for a phone with such a large battery, without pushing its weight too far beyond what you'd expect from a flagship.

Moving to the display, the OnePlus 16 features a 6.78-inch LTPO OLED panel with a FHD+ resolution of 1272 × 2772 pixels, delivering sharp text and images. The screen's refresh rate adjusts between 1Hz and 165Hz depending on what's on screen, helping save battery when a higher refresh rate isn't needed. For gaming, it can reach 185Hz in supported titles, compared to the OnePlus 15's maximum of 165Hz.
Additionally, the display uses BOE's X4 luminescent material and supports a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, 10-bit color, and up to 2,000 nits of global brightness. It can also drop to just 1 nit for more comfortable viewing in dark surroundings. With a pixel density of 450 ppi and very narrow 1.15 mm bezels, the screen should offer sharp visuals while keeping the viewing area immersive.
Performance and Software
Coming to performance, the OnePlus 16 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, built on a 2nm process, replacing the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 found in its predecessor. It comes with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage, which should help with multitasking and running demanding apps while leaving plenty of room for games and other files.

For gaming, OnePlus has upgraded its Glacier Cooling System. The company claims the new vapor chamber offers 40% better cooling performance, while the thermal gel is 50% more effective than in the OnePlus 15. The phone also includes three dedicated gaming chips for network connectivity, display processing, and touch response. Alongside the Wind Chaser Game Kernel, these help supported games reach up to 185 FPS, although actual frame rates will depend on the game and its settings.

On the software side, the OnePlus 16 runs ColorOS 17 based on Android 17. Its AI features include photo-editing tools, AI-powered note-taking, and contextual suggestions that can turn information on your phone into reminders and tasks.

Camera and Battery
In terms of optics, the OnePlus 16 features a triple rear camera setup, headlined by a 200MP main camera with a 1/1.4-inch sensor and optical image stabilization (OIS). This is a significant jump from the 50MP main camera on the OnePlus 15, at least in terms of resolution. Likewise, the setup also includes a 50MP ultrawide camera and a 50MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. For selfies, you get a 50MP front camera, up from 32MP on the previous model.

The phone supports video recording at up to 8K resolution at 30fps and 4K at up to 120fps. It also supports Dolby Vision video recording, while OPPO's Lumo imaging system handles color processing across the cameras.

For battery, the OnePlus 16 packs a massive 9,000mAh battery, up from 7,300mAh on the OnePlus 15. It supports 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, so you have both fast wired charging and a wireless option when you don't want to plug in.
