Last year, the X7 Pro (review) impressed many with flagship-level performance at a mid-range price, and I enjoyed its speed and smooth experience. This year, the POCO X8 Pro Max raises the stakes even higher. It brings a larger, high-quality display, massive 8,500mAh battery, powerful Dimensity 9500S chipset, and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, making it feel closer to a flagship than ever before.
After spending some time with it, I can honestly say that for day-to-day performance, gaming, and battery life, this phone comes very close to delivering a true flagship experience without the flagship price. Let's learn more in my POCO X8 Pro Max review.

POCO X8 Pro Max Review:
Design
The first thing that hits you with the X8 Pro Max is its size—it’s a big phone, comparable to flagship devices. The design feels clean and minimalistic, and I like how the phone feels solid in my hand.

POCO added some fun touches, too, like RGB lights around the camera module that can glow for notifications, charging, or even gaming. You can even customize the colors for different apps, which I found to be a playful and unique feature that makes the phone feel special.
Despite its size, the phone doesn’t feel unwieldy. The build quality is excellent, and the phone’s larger footprint actually makes gaming and media consumption more immersive.
Display
The X8 Pro Max comes with a 6.83-inch display, and I have to say, the quality impressed me. Even side by side with the Xiaomi 17 Ultra (review), the difference is barely noticeable. Colors are vibrant, slightly warmer than the X8 Pro, and viewing angles are much better.

When I compared it with the X8 Pro (review), I could clearly see that POCO used a higher-quality panel here. The colors remain consistent even from the side, and the display feels immersive for movies, gaming, and general use. Dolby Vision support is also present, making media playback more enjoyable.
Performance
The MediaTek Dimensity 9500S powers the X8 Pro Max, which is essentially a slightly underclocked version of MediaTek’s flagship Dimensity 9500. In benchmarks, it competes closely with Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chips found in phones like the OnePlus 15R and iQOO 15R.

I noticed that CPU performance is slightly behind Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, but GPU performance is very competitive, making gaming smooth and enjoyable. Thermals are slightly higher than the X8 Pro, but still manageable. In my testing, 5% lows were excellent, and the overall experience felt extremely smooth.
| Games | Avg FPS | 5% Low |
| PUBG | 117.6 | 112.8 |
| Genshin Impact | 59.3 | 56.4 |
| Mobile Legends | 120.1 | 119.1 |
The ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is very fast, haptics are satisfying, and the speakers are loud and clear. Overall, this phone just feels premium and flagship-like in everyday use, which is rare at this price point.
Battery & Charging
One of the highlights of the X8 Pro Max is the 8,500mAh battery. In my use, I consistently got 11–12 hours of screen-on time, which is even better than my Xiaomi 17 Ultra.
Fast charging remains excellent, and combined with the massive battery, the phone easily lasts multiple days of moderate use. For anyone who hates worrying about battery life, this phone is a dream, I can say.
Cameras
When it comes to cameras, the POCO X8 Pro Max is better than the regular X8 Pro, but it’s still not a flagship-level shooter.
Daylight
Daylight shots look really good. The 50MP main camera captures sharp details, and colors feel natural and slightly warmer than the X8 Pro. I tried some outdoor shots during the day, and they looked crisp and clear, even when zoomed in a little.
Ultrawide
The ultra-wide camera is fine for landscapes or group shots, but the edges aren’t as sharp, and sometimes there’s a slight distortion when shooting wide.
Portraits
Portraits are okay, but not perfect. The phone can detect edges most of the time, but sometimes it struggles with hair or background separation. You get up to 2X zoom for portraits, but still not that impressive if you’re used to flagship telephoto lenses.
Selfies
Selfies are decent in daylight. I noticed skin tones are mostly accurate, and photos are sharp. In low light, however, selfies tend to look darker and more contrasty, so you may need good lighting for Instagram-ready shots.
Low-light
Low-light shots are average. The main camera can capture some detail, but shadows lose texture, and noise is noticeable. The ultra-wide camera struggles even more at night, with softer edges and less clarity. Night mode helps a bit, but it still won't match flagship phones.
Video
Video is fine for casual clips—smooth enough for social media—but don’t expect flagship-level stabilization. Walking videos are okay, but you’ll notice some shakiness if you move a lot.
Software & Features
The X8 Pro Max runs POCO’s HyperOS interface, which is smooth and responsive. Features like ultrasonic fingerprint scanning, haptics, and customizable RGB camera lights add to the overall experience.

Even compared to flagship phones I’ve been using recently, like the Galaxy S25 Ultra, the X8 Pro Max feels fast and premium in day-to-day use.
Poco X8 Pro Max Review: Conclusion
After using the POCO X8 Pro Max, I can confidently say that this phone delivers a near-flagship experience at a mid-range price. The combination of smooth performance, massive battery, premium display, and thoughtful features like RGB camera lights makes it a joy to use. Cameras aren’t the focus here, but if you prioritize speed, battery life, display quality, and a smooth user experience, this phone hits almost every mark.

The X8 Pro Max proves that modern mid-range phones are closing the gap with flagships—and in many ways, you don’t need to spend flagship money anymore to enjoy a high-quality experience.
