Last year was a solid year for mid-range performance smartphones. For me, one of the standouts was the POCO X7 Pro (review)—it delivered flagship-level performance without burning a hole in your pocket.
But this year, POCO has really stepped things up with the X8 Pro. On paper, it promises cleaner design, bigger battery, faster charging, and a more compact feel—basically all the improvements you’d want from a next-gen mid-range phone. So, the real question is—does the X8 Pro actually deliver the complete POCO experience, or are there still compromises?
After spending time with it, I can say that in many ways, POCO has improved across almost every pillar that mattered to me: design, display, battery life, and performance. Let's head into my POCO X8 Pro review.

POCO X8 Pro Review:
Design & Build Quality
The first thing I noticed about the X8 Pro is how much cleaner it looks than previous X-series models. Gone is the quirky yellow color, replaced with a more refined design that actually feels premium.

The phone is slightly more compact, which makes it easier to hold. I really appreciated this change—I could use it comfortably for hours without my hand getting tired. The metal frame also adds a nice sense of solidity, making it feel like a phone that costs more than it actually does. And POCO also has an Iron Man Edition that looks slick and dope! It's the way to go if you are Team Marvel!
Display
POCO has always been strong in the display department, and the X8 Pro is no exception. The 12-bit OLED panel delivers vibrant colors, smooth animations, and precise touch response. While testing it, I noticed a slight magenta tint when viewing from the side, but overall, the display feels premium for a mid-range device. Watching videos and playing games on this screen was genuinely enjoyable, and the Dolby Vision support is a nice bonus.

Performance
The POCO X8 Pro runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 chipset, which offers a modest 8–10% improvement over last year’s X7 Pro. On paper, it might not look like a huge jump, but in day-to-day use, I noticed the difference. Apps launch almost instantly, multitasking is seamless, and switching between games and social media feels effortless.

I spent a few hours gaming on this phone, and the experience was surprisingly smooth for a mid-range device. Frame rates stayed stable, and the 5% lows were very reasonable, so even fast-paced games didn’t stutter. Thermals were also well-managed; the phone warmed up slightly during intense gaming sessions, but it never felt uncomfortable to hold.

What I particularly liked was the combination of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. It makes a tangible difference—opening heavy apps, switching tabs in a browser, or loading large games all happened quickly, and I rarely felt any lag. While the Dimensity 8500 doesn’t beat flagship processors, it’s more than capable of handling everything a mid-range user needs, from streaming and gaming to multitasking.
Battery & Charging
The X8 Pro now comes with a 6,500mAh battery, up from 6,000mAh last year. In my testing, I easily got through a full day with heavy usage. Fast charging has also improved from 90W to 100W. I tested charging from 0 to 50%, and it took only about 15 minutes, which is incredibly convenient if you’re constantly on the move.

Camera
If there’s one area where the POCO X8 Pro isn’t trying to compete with other phones, it’s the cameras. I’ve always felt that POCO prioritizes performance over photography, and that approach continues here.
The phone comes with a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide lens. In good lighting, the main camera captures sharp and detailed images with natural colors. I noticed that daylight shots were generally accurate, though sometimes slightly on the cooler side.
Low-light shots, however, tend to struggle a bit; noise is visible, and fine details can get lost on both main and ultrawide units.
The ultra-wide camera is just okay for capturing landscapes or group shots, but since it's an 8MP lens, I can't expect more.
Portraits
I also tried a few casual portrait shots. The edge detection was hit-or-miss—I often had to take multiple shots to get something I’d actually post. For someone who loves portrait photography, this could be frustrating.
Seflies
Selfies are decent, too, but nothing exceptional. I noticed that in certain lighting conditions, skin tones could appear dark, and the dynamic range is limited.
Videos
Video recording is fairly basic but works fine for casual clips; don’t expect flagship-level stabilization or color accuracy.
Poco X8 Pro Review: Conclusion
After using the POCO X8 Pro, I can say it’s one of the best mid-range phones this year. The design feels premium, the display is vibrant, and performance is smooth whether gaming or multitasking. Battery life is excellent, and 100W fast charging is a big plus. Cameras aren’t standout, but for casual shots, they get the job done. Overall, if you want a compact, performance-focused phone that feels more expensive than it is, the X8 Pro delivers solid value—and I genuinely enjoyed using it.
