Lately, Ryzen’s Renoir 4000 series processors for laptops have taken the chipset industry by storm. They may not be the most powerful chipset out there, but the performance to price ratio that they offer has made them open new avenues for laptop manufacturers. Today, Redmi unveiled RedmiBook 16, which is powered by Ryzen 4000 processor. Read along to find out more about the specs, features, expected price in Nepal, and availability of RedmiBook 16 2020.
RedmiBook 16 2020 Overview
With their Zen 2 architecture, Ryzen made quite a comeback in the desktop chipset market. Ryzen’s 4000 series of mobile chipsets are also based on the same architecture, but for some reason, there aren’t a lot of devices that use them. The exception being Asus Zephyrus G14.
The collaboration between Redmi and Ryzen for the RedmiBook Ryzen Edition was announced as early as last year. Both brands are known for bang-for-bucks offerings.
Design and Display
The RedmiBook 16 2020 is the first laptop from Redmi to feature a 16-inch display. The laptop is quite thin for the screen size that it has. Redmi has reduced the bezels around the screen. The top and side bezels are hardly noticeable. But the bottom bezels do stand out than the rest.
RedmiBook 16 2020 offers a screen to body ratio of 90%. The display covers 100% of the sRGB color gamut. The display packs in 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution and has a wide 178-degree field of view.
Performance and Memory
RedmiBook 16 is available in two variants. One variant comes with Ryzen R7 4500U while the other makes use of R7 4700U. Both APUs are based on AMD’s Zen 2 microarchitecture and manufactured using the 7nm process. R7 4700U features eight cores/8 threads and a base clock frequency of 2.0 GHz (Max 4.1 GHz). R7 4500U has a lower core count (6 cores / 6 threads), and its speed ranges from 2.3 GHz (base speed0 to 4.0 GHz. Both come equipped with integrated Radeon Graphics. The graphics on the R7 4700U has a higher graphics core and has better top speed.
It will come with three performance modes – Quiet, Balanced, and Full Speed. One can toggle between these modes using the combination of the Function key and K key. The 8mm heat pipes on the RedmiBook 16 provides better heat dissipation than standard 6mm pipes. The larger fan size also pushes out more air while being quieter.
Ports and Others
RedmiBook 16 comes features two USB Type-A ports, two Type-C ports, an HDMI port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. With the 46 Watt-hour battery, Redmi has promised battery life of about 12 hours. You will be able to charge the device via one of the Type-C ports. Redmi has included a 65W mini power adapter in the box. It can charge the laptop up to 50% inside 38 minutes. The laptop has a fingerprint sensor but you can also use your Mi Band to unlock it.
