Sony Electronics, the worldwide leader in digital imaging and the largest image sensor manufacturer has recently launched a new Full frame mirrorless camera in their lineup. Dubbed as, Sony A7 III, this new full frame camera possesses some beastly specs from the flagship Sony A9 and Sony A7 R III. With the numerous additions in the features and myriads of upgrades to its predecessor, the A7 III is posing threats even to the Canon and Nikon flagships.

Sony A7 III Overview

Sony A7 III is similar to A7 R III in terms of design and aesthetics. However, if the device is compared to the A7 II, the biggest and most noticeable difference will be the replacement of the AF/ML and AEL switch with a joystick/toggle. With this change, navigating a menu or adjusting autofocus while shooting will be easy and seamless.

A lot of improvements can also be seen in the EVF (Electronic View Finder). With the high-resolution, high-contrast, fast-start XGA OLED Tru-Finder packing approximately 2.3 million dots, A7 III portrays an extremely accurate, true-to-life detail reproduction.

Sony managed to equip the camera with a smaller and more manageable 24.2-megapixel sensor. The back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor coupled is coupled with front-end LSI in the device. Sony boasts that with this setup, the device can process the images with 2x readout speed. In addition, the camera maker assured that with the presence of the BIONZ X processing engine, the processing speed of the Sony A7 III will be 1.8 times better than the A7 II.

The impressive AF performance of the A9 and A7R III had every photographer awe-inspired. So Sony decided to give continuity to that feature in the A7 III also. With 425 contrast AF points that work with a 693-point focal-plane phase-detection AF system, the camera is really impressive. This innovative AF system covers approximately 93% of the frame. As a result, reliable focusing and tracking can be obtained even when it is difficult to capture the subjects.

Using the longer-lived battery that debuted with the A9, Sony boasts the A73 lasts 710 shots per charge, though that’s with the back LCD. With the viewfinder, it is rated at 610. Still, that is still pretty good compared to the rest of the mirrorless pack.
