Xiaomi 18 Pro Max launches with a privacy display and a massive 8,500mAh battery!

Xiaomi has officially announced the 18 Pro Max as the direct successor to the 17 Pro Max, expanding its top-end flagship with a new hardware-level privacy display. Which is arguably the most interesting addition here, as Xiaomi lets you enable it for specific apps and even use the front camera to detect people looking at your screen. I will discuss it later, but first, the new phone also brings Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, a Leica camera setup featuring dual 200MP sensors, and a huge 8,500mAh battery. In this article, I will cover everything you need to know about the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, including its specifications, availability, and expected price in Nepal.

Xiaomi 18 Pro Max Overview

Design and Display

Starting with the design, the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max has taken a different approach from its predecessor, with a premium flat-body design and a micro-arc quad-curved metal frame. The phone measures 163.39 mm in height and 77.6mm in width, while its thickness and weight vary slightly depending on the back material. The fiberglass versions measure 8.39mm thick and weigh 235 grams, while the glass versions are 8.47mm thick and weigh 240 grams. So, despite packing a massive battery, Xiaomi has managed to keep the phone relatively slim for its size.

The phone is available in Black, White Ice, Peach Pink, and Star River Blue color options. Xiaomi has also introduced a special variant called a Transparent Edition.

Up front, the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max features a large 6.9-inch Super Pixel 2.0 Smart Privacy Screen with a 2624 x 1208 pixel resolution. It supports a 120Hz refresh rate, offering a smoother scrolling experience. The screen can also reach up to 4,000 nits of peak brightness, delivering clear visibility even under direct sunlight. Additionally, the panel is protected by Xiaomi's Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0, while the display supports HDR10+, HDR Vivid, and Dolby Vision for immersive media consumption.

The more interesting part, though, is the built-in privacy display. Yes, what we have seen on the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. This means that, rather than relying on a separate privacy screen protector, the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max can restrict viewing angles at the hardware level, making it harder for people beside you to see what's on the screen. You can also enable the privacy mode for selected apps, while the front camera can detect when someone else is looking at the display. 

Likewise, Xiaomi has added a 2.9-inch AMOLED secondary display on the back with the same 120Hz refresh rate. Here, it not only shows information at a glance, but the screen also acts as a preview screen for the rear cameras—letting you use the main camera setup for selfies and other shots. Something similar to the Oppo Reno 16 with Bubble; however, no need for an additional device. So, it really seems Xiaomi has tried a little bit of everything. 

Performance and Software

Under the hood, the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max is powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, built on a 2nm process to handle demanding tasks such as gaming, multitasking, and AI features without a hitch. The phone is available with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage, giving you plenty of headroom for keeping multiple apps open and handling large files without running into storage limitations.

On the software side, the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max runs on HyperOS 4 based on Android 17, with a range of AI-based features such as AI-assisted photography and other smart functions built into the system. Xiaomi has also integrated the privacy display at the system level, allowing you to control which apps use the privacy mode rather than treating it as a simple display setting.

Camera and Battery

Moving to the cameras, the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max features a Leica-tuned triple-camera setup. The main camera uses a 200MP Light Hunter 960L sensor with a large 1/1.28-inch sensor size, f/1.67 aperture, and OIS. It is joined by a 200MP periscope telephoto camera with a 1/1.56-inch sensor, 3.2x optical zoom, and OIS, while the 50MP ultra-wide camera offers a 102-degree field of view and autofocus.

The dual 200MP setup is another noteworthy change because the high-resolution telephoto camera is not just there for zoom. It also supports 12cm telephoto macro shots, giving you another option for getting close to small subjects. (This is also seen in the latest Vivo X500 Pro Max with 10 cm telephoto macro shots.) Meanwhile, Leica's image processing and different shooting modes aim to give the camera system more flexibility across everyday photography.

For selfies, the phone gets a 50MP front-facing camera that can also record up to 4K video at 60fps. Moreover, the rear cameras can record up to 8K at 30fps or 4K at up to 120fps, giving the phone plenty of room for higher-resolution and slow-motion video.

In terms of battery, the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max packs a huge 8,500mAh battery, ensuring at least more than a day of demanding usage. It supports 100W wired and 50W wireless Xiaomi HyperCharge. The phone also supports up to 27W wired reverse charging, so it can top up other compatible devices when needed.

The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max has been launched officially in China with a starting price of CNY 6,999 for the 12/256 variant. The 12/512GB model costs CNY 7,999, while the 16/512GB and 16GB/1TB versions are priced at CNY 8,999 and CNY 9,999, respectively. There is also a 16GB/1TB Transparent Edition priced at CNY 10,999.

As of now, there is no information regarding its debut in the global or local market. However, if it does get introduced here, we can expect the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max price in Nepal to be around NPR 160,299 for the base variant.
