Remember the Sony WH-1000XM4? One of Sony’s most popular noise-canceling headphones is getting a refresh. Sony has officially launched the WH-1000XM4C, bringing back the familiar design and 1000X-series noise cancellation while adding updated sound tuning and a 10-band equalizer.

The new model keeps the core formula of the original WH-1000XM4 while making a few changes to its sound experience. With its familiar design and lower price than Sony’s newer flagship models, the WH-1000XM4C could be an interesting option for those who still like the classic XM4 formula. Design and Build

The Sony WH-1000XM4C sticks closely to the familiar design of the original WH-1000XM4. It features a closed, over-ear construction with a foldable design, making it easier to carry around when traveling or commuting.

At around 253 grams, the headphones are relatively lightweight for an over-ear ANC model. Sony also includes a carrying case, while the detachable headphone cable allows for wired listening when needed.

The headphones are available in Black, Platinum Silver, and Lavender. The design is therefore more about keeping the established XM4 look than introducing a completely different appearance.

Audio and Noise Cancellation

As part of Sony’s 1000X lineup, the WH-1000XM4C features the company’s 1000X-series noise cancellation. It is designed to reduce everyday sounds such as traffic, crowds, office noise, and other distractions, making it suitable for commuting, travel, and everyday listening.

For audio, Sony has updated the sound tuning to suit current listening preferences. The headphones also feature a 10-band equalizer, allowing users to adjust the sound according to their preferences.

The WH-1000XM4C uses 40mm drivers and supports a frequency response of 4Hz–40kHz when used with a wired connection. It also supports Sony's DSEE Extreme technology for processing compressed audio.

Connectivity and Features

The WH-1000XM4C supports Bluetooth 6.0 and works with SBC, AAC, and LDAC codecs. This gives users the option of higher-quality wireless audio when using a compatible device.

It also supports multipoint connection, allowing the headphones to remain connected to two devices at the same time. This can be useful if you regularly switch between a phone and laptop, such as when working or studying.

For wired listening, there is a 3.5mm stereo mini jack, while charging is handled through USB. Sony also includes features such as Ambient Sound Mode, Quick Attention, and Personal Noise Cancelling Optimizer.

The headphones work with the Sony's Sound Connect app, which provides access to personalized listening and other settings.

Battery Life

The Sony WH-1000XM4C is rated to provide up to 27 hours of music playback with noise cancellation enabled. Turning noise cancellation off increases the claimed battery life to 34 hours.

Sony says the headphones take approximately 3 hours to fully charge. For calls, the rated continuous communication time is up to 20 hours with noise cancellation on and up to 27 hours with it turned off.

The Sony WH-1000XM4C is officially priced at approximately GBP £219 in the UK and EUR €279 in Europe. Sony says the headphones will be available from September 2026.

While there is no information about its launch in the local market, if it is announced here, we can expect the Sony WH-1000XM4C price in Nepal to be around NPR 38,699.
