The news about an Xbox handheld console sprouted up from an interview of Phil Spencer with Bloomberg. He has mentioned Microsoft developing such a console but the final version will take a few more years. The California-based tech giant is already working on prototypes and seeking more visions for now as per Spencer.

He said, “Longer term, I love us building devices.” “And I think our team could do some real innovative work, but we want to be informed by learning and what’s happening now.”, he added.

Local games might be the priority

Spencer was asked if the upcoming handheld console would support a dedicated platform with local games like on a Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch. And he answered, “I think being able to play games locally is really important.” So, that points out, that we might be able to play locally available games without having to connect to the internet.

Meanwhile, the current game plan of Microsoft is to prioritize enhancing the Xbox app experience on existing handheld devices first.
