Is this the best semi-flagship phone in Nepal right now?

Xiaomi Nepal launched its flagship phone, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra (review), a few months ago. The company has now introduced the Xiaomi 17T in Nepal as well, which is the direct successor to last year’s Xiaomi 15T. Compared to its predecessor, the Xiaomi 17T brings a much better camera setup, a larger battery, and more. Thus posing a tough competition to other premium mid-range phones in Nepal like the POCO X8 Pro, Nothing Phone (4a) Pro, and the Vivo V70. So in this article, I will tell you everything you need to know about the Xiaomi 17T, including its features, full specifications, official price in Nepal, and availability.
Key Highlights
- Xiaomi 17T features a compact 6.59-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision support, and 12-bit color depth.

Xiaomi 17T Overview
An upgraded camera setup
Starting with the cameras, Xiaomi 17T sticks out as one of the most competitive camera phones in Nepal’s premium mid-range smartphone market. That’s because it’s the only phone in its class that offers a proper 50MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom. And just like the more expensive Xiaomi 17 Ultra, this phone also has Leica optimizations for a rich camera experience.

So compared to something like Samsung’s Galaxy A57 (review) or the newly launched Honor 600 that don’t even bother with a dedicated zoom camera, the Xiaomi 17T easily stands out. Even the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro (review) and the Vivo V70 (review) offer narrower 3x / 3.5x optical zoom.
And besides excellent zoom photos, we were really impressed with the portraits we took from this phone. Especially the ones from the “Lieca Master Mode”. This 50MP telephoto camera is paired with a 50MP primary sensor with OIS, allowing you to capture good photos even in low-light conditions. Meanwhile, a 12MP ultrawide lens rounds out the rear camera setup, which is surprisingly decent. It’s great for landscape shots and travel photography, and we found the color consistency across the lenses to be fairly even as well.

All three can shoot up to 4K 30 fps videos, and you can also record smoother 4K 60 fps videos from its main and telephoto cameras. Up front, the Xiaomi 17T has a 32MP lens that captures good-looking selfies with particularly natural skin tones. Even though this camera lacks any Leica magic compared to the rest of the setup.
Performance and Software
Under the hood, the Xiaomi 17T uses a powerful MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset, which is not a major upgrade over the Dimensity 8400 Ultra on the Xiaomi 15T. That said, it absolutely wipes the floor with Samsung, Vivo, and Nothing phones in this segment. It’s the same chip we’ve seen in newer gaming phones like the POCO X8 Pro (review), by the way, so if you are a gamer, you can expect a great gaming experience on this phone.

Memory-wise, the Xiaomi 17T brings up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage. It runs HyperOS 3.0 on top of Android 16, which is decent for long-term use. Plus, Xiaomi is also offering 4 years of Android updates and 6 years of security patches for this phone, which is great to see.

Design and Display
In terms of design, the most interesting thing about the Xiaomi 17T for us is that it’s actually shrunken in size this time. Its build quality is still quite similar to that of the Xiaomi 15T, with a glass back and plastic frames, but the 17T now has a more compact footprint. The color options are also quite eye-catching this time, including “Opal White”, “Blue”, “Violet”, and “Black " finishes. This phone also has an IP68 rating against dust and water damage, so the Xiaomi 17T earns a solid A+ from us as far as its design and build quality are concerned.

Up front, this phone now has a 6.59-inch AMOLED panel compared to the larger 6.89-inch panel we saw in the Xiaomi 15T. But as always, this screen is a proper spec beast, with pretty much everything you could ask for. From a 120Hz refresh rate to a 12-bit color depth capable of reproducing 68 billion colors versus the usual 8/10-bit panels on most phones in this segment, and even Dolby Vision certification for high-quality streaming on Netflix and other OTT platforms, the Xiaomi 17T’s display is properly gorgeous.

We were also more than happy with how bright this screen can get—and also how dim it can get at night. Not just that, but Xiaomi also says this screen has several TUV Rheinland certifications for flicker resistance, low blue-light emission, and more.
Battery and Others
In terms of battery, the Xiaomi 17T packs a 6500mAh silicon-carbon battery that Xiaomi claims will last more than a day on casual use. This is 1000 mAh larger than what we saw in the Xiaomi 15T last year, and in our tests, we easily got 1.5 – 2 days of endurance here. And to top it off, the 17T supports 67W wired charging like before. Other than this, it has Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 6.0 wireless connectivity, stereo speakers, and a nice x-axis vibration motor that delivers great haptic feedback when you’re typing and such.
Who should buy the Xiaomi 17T in Nepal?
When compared to the competition in Nepal, the Xiaomi 17T feels like one of the stronger options in its segment. You are getting a slightly better 12-bit OLED display, excellent performance, and a much more reliable gaming experience. But the real USP here is the 5x telephoto camera, which captures some really impressive portraits and even surprisingly good macro shots.
So overall, the Xiaomi 17T stands out as a compact yet powerful premium midrange phone with a great display, strong performance, Leica-powered cameras, and dependable battery life. However, there are a couple of areas where Xiaomi still needs to improve, especially the plastic frame and the usual HyperOS experience, which still comes with some bloatware, ads, and app recommendations.
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Pocketable form factor | Plastic frame |
| Amazing 12-bit OLED display | HyperOS still has some bloatware |
| Excellent performance | Ads and app recommendations are still present |
| Good Leica-powered cameras | |
| Impressive 5x telephoto portraits and macro shots | |
| Good battery life |
