Beats 360 debuts with interchangeable cushions and 32-hours battery life!

Beats has officially launched the Beats 360, its new flagship over-ear headphone and the brand's first model with interchangeable earcup and headband cushions, allowing for up to 256 different design combinations. The headphones also deliver Beats' most advanced Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) yet, an IPX4 rating, and up to 32 hours of battery life with ANC and spatial audio enabled. 

And since Beats is part of Apple, comparisons with the AirPods Max are almost inevitable. Both sit in the premium over-ear headphone segment, but the 360 takes a slightly different approach, which I am going to discuss here. In this article, I will cover everything about the Beats 360, including specifications, features, availability, and expected price in Nepal. 

Beats 360 Overview

Design and Comfort

Starting with the design, at first glance, the Beats 360 follows the familiar premium over-ear headphone aesthetic. With a slim profile and clean, minimalist design, you are sure to think of the AirPods Max. However, while it may look familiar, Be has taken a different approach to the fit and overall usability, particularly with its focus on comfort and active use. 

The headphone weighs 294.5g and features a slim headband and earcups that use acoustically engineered memory foam to form a comfortable seal around the ears. Likewise, the headband also uses a balanced-fit architecture that distributes the weight and tension across the head properly, which should make the 360 more comfortable for longer listening sessions. 

Talking about comfort, though, is the interchangeable cushion system. Both the earcup and headband cushions can be removed and swapped, allowing you to mix different materials and colors across Black, Cloud, Sky, and Pink. At launch, the brand says the Beats 360 supports up to 256 different combinations, while the optional cushion kits come in Performance Knit and UltraPlush finishes. The former is designed to be breathable and better suited to workouts, while the latter is aimed more at all-day comfort. 

Here, this means you can keep one set of cushions for everyday listening and swap to another after a workout or simply change the look of the headphones, according to your mood and needs. It is also IPX4-rated for sweat and water resistance—an important feature you cannot find in the AirPods Max. The Beats 360 also folds flat and comes with a woven ripstop carrying case, making it easier to pack and protecting it during frequent commuting or travel. 

Audio and ANC

Moving on to the audio, Beats 360 comes with a bespoke acoustic system built around custom-designed dual magnet dynamic drivers. Each driver uses a three-layer diaphragm and dual neodymium magnets, which the brand says help deliver stronger bass, better precision, and more detail across the frequency range. This is also paired with a custom high-dynamic-range amplifier for a more immersive listening experience.

For noise cancellation, Beats has equipped the 360 with its advanced ANC system. It uses an adaptive system that continuously responds to the surrounding environment and the headphone’s fit, with the company claiming up to 1.75x more total noise cancellation than the Beats Studio Pro. Likewise, Transparency mode is available when you want to stay aware of your surroundings without taking the headphones off.

Another interesting addition here is Adaptive EQ, which adjusts the acoustic frequencies according to your individual fit and seal. This should help maintain a more consistent sound as the fit changes.

For a more immersive experience, the over-ear headphones also support Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking and Dolby Atmos. Built-in accelerometers and gyroscopes track your head movement, allowing supported music, movies, and games to create a more theater-like surround sound experience.

Connectivity and Other Features

On the connectivity side, the Beats 360 uses Bluetooth 5.3 and works with both Apple and Android devices. However, it does not support traditional Bluetooth multipoint. Instead, the headphones rely on automatic device switching within each ecosystem.

For Apple users, this includes one-touch pairing, iCloud pairing across devices, and Automatic Switching, which lets the headphones move between your Apple devices based on what you are using. You also get Find My support and hands-free Siri, while Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking adds a more immersive experience with supported content.

Android users get Google Fast Pair and Audio Switch, which similarly lets the headphones switch between compatible Android devices linked to the same Google account. The Beats 360 also works with Google’s Find My Device network, while the Beats app provides additional controls and settings.

Beyond these, the headphones feature physical controls for playback, calls, and volume. It also comes with a total of nine microphones and voice-targeting technology to help improve voice clarity during calls, particularly in noisy surroundings.

Battery and Charging

Coming to the battery, the Beats 360 offers up to 32 hours of playback on a single charge with both ANC and Personalized Spatial Audio turned on. That is a notable figure for an over-ear headphone, especially since you do not have to turn off these features to reach the claimed battery life.

In terms of charging, a 5-minute charge via USB-C can provide up to 1 hour of playback through Beats’ Fast Fuel feature. So, even if you forget to charge the headphones before heading out, a short top-up should be enough to get you through a good part of the day.

The Beats 360 has been officially launched in the USA with a starting price of USD 349.99 and is available to order through Apple's website in more than 100 countries and regions. While there is no information regarding its local launch yet, if it does get introduced here, we can expect the Beats 360 price in Nepal to be around NPR 53,599.

Beats 360 vs AirPods Max: Which one should you pick?

Okay, now getting back to the question: why compare the Beats 360 with the AirPods Max in the first place? Well, as mentioned above, Beats is owned by Apple, and both headphones sit in the premium over-ear category, so it makes sense if you are confused about which one you should go with. 

While both headphones look similar, the Beats 360 puts more emphasis on a lighter build, longer battery life, IPX4 resistance, interchangeable cushions, and support for both Apple and Android devices. The AirPods Max, on the other hand, are more focused on Apple’s ecosystem. Moreover, the Beats 360 also comes at a much more reasonable price than the AirPods Max.

So, if you want a premium headphone with more flexibility and broader device compatibility, the Beats 360 offers that. The AirPods Max, meanwhile, remain a more Apple-focused option with deeper integration across Apple devices.
