The idea of having an E Ink screen alongside your smartphone isn't entirely new. Phones like the YotaPhone experimented with placing a dedicated reading display on the back, but Honor is taking a different approach with its new Life S3 by making the E Ink screen a separate accessory that attaches to your phone.
Key Highlights
- The Honor Life S3 is a compact E Ink e-book reader that magnetically attaches to the back of a smartphone.
- It features a 3.68-inch E Ink display with a 259ppi pixel density for reading books and documents.
- The reader supports Wi-Fi 6, microSD cards of up to 1TB, and multiple e-book and document formats.
- It packs a 650mAh battery that offers up to 30 hours of continuous reading, according to Honor.
So, what exactly does this unusual accessory offer? Let’s take a closer look at the Honor Life S3, including its design, features, specifications, price, and availability in Nepal.
Honor Life S3 Overview
Display and Design
The Life S3 features a 3.68-inch E Ink display with a 259ppi pixel density. Unlike a conventional smartphone display, E Ink is designed specifically for reading and uses very little power when displaying static content.
The Life S3 has two physical keys, with a function button on the left side and a power button on the right. For reading, however, you can turn pages directly by tapping or swiping on the touchscreen.
One limitation is that the E Ink display does not have a built-in front light. This means you will need enough ambient light to read comfortably, whether that is indoors in a well-lit room or outdoors during the daytime. It may be less convenient for reading in dark environments.
Despite its small size, the reader is only 5.6mm thick and weighs 61 grams, so it adds relatively little weight when attached to your phone. It also has a function key on the left side and a power key on the right.
Features and Connectivity
The Life S3 can transfer books wirelessly through Wi-Fi 6 using the Honor Smart Space app on your phone. It supports several common formats, including EPUB, MOBI, TXT, DOC, DOCX, and PDF.
For storage expansion, the reader has a microSD card slot with support for cards of up to 1TB. This allows users to carry a large collection of books and documents without relying on a phone's storage.

Battery
The Honor Life S3 packs a 650mAh battery, which Honor claims can provide up to 30 hours of continuous reading on a single charge. This should allow users to read for extended periods without frequently worrying about recharging the device. Charging is handled through a USB Type-C port, making it easy to charge using a standard Type-C cable.
