Would you pick the Realme Watch S5 over a Xiaomi or CMF smartwatch available in the market in a similar price segment?

After a two-year gap from the launch of Realme Watch S2, Realme is back in India with its affordable mid-range watch. This time, the new Realme Watch S5 arrives with noticeable upgrades in GPS tracking, protection, display, and more compared to its predecessors. It features a 1.43-inch AMOLED panel with a waterproof and swimproof rating, along with built-in GPS. In this article, I will discuss the new affordable smartwatch from Realme, including the expected Realme Watch S5 price in Nepal, its specifications, and availability.
Realme Watch S5 Overview
Design and Display
Beginning with the design, Realme Watch S5 features a thickness of 13.45mm and a weight of around 50 grams, with a strap that should feel light enough on the wrist for day-to-day use. This watch is circular, and the case features a functional rotating digital crown that offers a traditional look with a modern aesthetic.
Here, the case itself is a blend of aluminum alloy framed paired with a PVD bottom shell. And you can use this watch for day-to-day tasks, even when washing your hands or swimming in the pool, thanks to its 5 ATM water resistance. You also get to choose between “Rock Grey” and “Sand White” color options, depending on your personal preference.

On the front, this smartwatch comes with a 1.43-inch circular AMOLED display with 466 x 466-pixel resolution, which is pretty decent for crisp and sharp text. While it also has a 60Hz refresh rate, it lets you scroll through the app smoothly without the annoying UI stutter that most entry-level watches have. The 1000-nit peak brightness in this watch is a sweet spot that should be enough for a quick outdoor glance, but don't expect the blinding brightness of other high-end watches.
Interestingly, it has a “Smart Night Vision” red-light mode, which I feel is a useful addition that lets you use this watch at night with minimal eye strain. Alongside this, it also has the always-on display option, which we don't see frequently in mid-range watches.
Performance and Device Compatibility
Under the hood, Realme Watch S5 uses the ATS3089 chipset, which is further paired with 16MB of PSRAM, allowing you to scroll through the interface smoothly without micro-stuttering that we mostly saw in wearables in this segment. Another highlight of this watch is its 4 GB of internal NAND Flash storage. With this feature, you can easily load the MP3 directly onto your watch without needing to carry your phone during a workout.
On the software side, Realme Watch S5 runs on a proprietary lightweight OS that supports Android 9 or iOS 11 or later, ensuring the watch works seamlessly with your phone via the Realme Link app.
Health and Fitness monitoring
Instead of featuring basic steps and calorie counts, the new Realme Watch S5 offers active sports tracking and dedicated metrics. Here, you get an independent five-system GPS that can map your routes, pace, and distance on the watch itself without requiring a phone. It also has Pro Athletic modes for tracking various sports metrics like VO2 Max, aerobic training effect, and recovery duration.

Apart from this, it offers 110+ sports modes and automatic workout detection for daily activities such as walking, running, and more. It even includes the built-in running course and physical stretching guide to make your workout plan easier. Other than that, it also has other health monitoring features like heart rate, SpO2, stress level, sleep, and more. It also tracks the environmental noise and sends you an alert if the volume level is high enough to potentially damage your hearing over time.

Battery, Connectivity, and Others
The battery of this Realme Watch S5 is one of the highlights, as it comes with a 460mAh capacity that Realme claims will last up to 16 days under standard usage guidelines. And if you switch this watch to the customizable light smart mode, the battery life can be stretched up to 20 days. And for charging this watch, realme provides a magnetic charger in the box that takes roughly 2.5 hours to fully charge the battery.

For connectivity, you get Bluetooth 5.4 for a stable, power-efficient connection with your phone; it also supports seamless Bluetooth calling and an independent BT intercom feature.
In addition to the fitness feature, this device offers customizable cloud photo album watch faces, weather updates, event reminders, and standard tools like a calculator, stopwatches, and an alarm clock.
