Starting with the design, HP Omen 15 2020 sports a completely new look compared to its predecessor. The new HP Omen 15 2020 is slimmer and has a more subtle design. The body of the laptop is made up of plastic. HP has topped the plastic top with a Mica Silver finish. On the other hand, the keyboard deck is made from adonized aluminum. HP Omen 15 has a 15.6-inch IPS panel with an FHD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a 144Hz refresh rate. The screen has an anti-glare layer on top and is listed with a brightness level of up to 300 nits. This LED-backlit display covers 72% of the NTSC color gamut. The micro-edge design contributes to the 80% screen to body ratio.
Keyboard and Touchpad
HP has included a full-size island-style keyboard on the Omen 15 2020. It is based on 26-key anti-ghosting key technology. That is, the keyboard can register up to 26 keys when pressed simultaneously. It also supports 4-zone RGB backlighting. Similarly, the HP Imagepad comes with support for multi-gestures.
Performance and Memory
As mentioned earlier, this gaming laptop is powered by Ryzen 4000-series mobile processor from AMD. Here, users have no choice other than the Ryzen 7 4800H. It’s an octa-core processor with 16 threads. The base clock speed is 2.9 GHz whereas the max boost clock speed is 4.2GHz. The processor is based on TSMC’s 7nm process and features 4MB of L2 cache. Handling the graphics is NVIDIA’s GTX 1660 Ti with 6GB of GDDR6 VRAM.
To keep the device cool, HP has included Omen Tempest Cooling technology. The setup includes a three-sided vent and five-way airflow. Similarly, the laptop comes with Omen Gaming Hub that users can use to switch between different performance modes, control lighting, and network.
HP Omen 15 2020 is available in two RAM configurations – 8GB and 16GB. But the two RAM slots in the Omen 15 2020 are user-accessible and users can use them to upgrade the RAM up to 32GB. Similarly, the laptop is available with up to 1TB of SSD storage.
