At the CES 2023 event, HP announced the refreshed version of its Omen 17 gaming laptop, featuring new chips from Intel and Nvidia. It is said to be the company’s most powerful gaming laptop to date, and it now includes an optical mechanical keyboard. More about the HP Omen 17 (2023), along with its expected price in Nepal here.

New Intel / Nvidia chips

The inclusion of new hardware from Intel and Nvidia is the most significant change to the HP Omen 17 this year. The CPU options include the new Intel Core i9-13900HX and Core i7-13700HX, both of which utilize a hybrid architecture with a combination of high-performance and efficient cores.

HP has not specified the graphics card choices, but users are likely to be able to select at least a GeForce RTX 4080, if not an RTX 4090. In terms of memory and storage, the Omen 17 supports up to 32GB of DDR5 RAM (running at a speed of 5600MHz) and up to 2TB of NVMe storage.

Additionally, the laptop features a new cooling solution called “Tempest Cooling technology” which is designed to provide a desktop-like gaming experience in a compact form factor.

Moreover, the Omen 17 (2023) features a 17.3-inch display with a choice of resolutions: Full HD (1920 x 1080) with a refresh rate of 144Hz, or QHD (2560 x 1440) with refresh rates of 165Hz or 240Hz. The QHD variants have a screen response time of 3ms, while the Full HD model has a slightly slower response time of 7ms.

The display also offers 300 nits of brightness and covers 100% of the sRGB color gamut. It has an anti-glare coating and low Blue Light emission for reduced eye strain during prolonged use.

In terms of design, the Omen 17 remains largely unchanged from the previous model. But this year’s model marks the first time that an HP gaming laptop is available with an optical-mechanical keyboard. It is said to be up to 25 times faster than a typical keyboard, making it a valuable asset for gamers and alike. 

Likewise, the I/O options include one Thunderbolt 4.0 port (with a speed of 40 Gbps), one Thunderbolt 3.0 port, three USB Type-A ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, a 3.5 mm audio jack, a mini DP port, an RJ45 Ethernet jack.

The HP Omen 17 (2023) is equipped with a large 83 Wh lithium-ion polymer battery that supports 330W fast charging, allowing you to charge the battery to 50% capacity in just 30 minutes. 

The laptop also has high-quality Bang & Olufsen speakers and supports both DTS:X ultra and HP Audio Boost 2.0 for enhanced audio performance. In terms of wireless connectivity, the Omen 17 offers WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, although the specific models and features may vary.
