Vivo X500 Pro series to shoot 4K slow-motion video at up to 960 fps!

Vivo is gearing up to launch its X500 series in China later this month, and the company has started teasing what could be one of the lineup’s standout camera features. After confirming that the series supports 4K@240fps slow-motion recording last week, Vivo has now shared a short video showing the feature in action. But that’s not all, as the upcoming X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max are also set to support even higher frame rates for slow-motion video. In this article, I will break down everything you need to know about the Vivo X500 series’ camera capabilities, sensor upgrades, and video features. 

Vivo X500 Pro Series Camera Overview

4K slow-motion video

Starting with slow-motion video recording, Vivo had already confirmed that the X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max can shoot 4K@240fps footage. However, in its latest teaser, the company took things a step further, revealing that the phones will also support 4K@480fps and 4K@960fps slow-motion recording.

With higher frame rates, users can slow down footage even further, which should come in handy when recording fast-moving subjects. This gives users more flexibility when shooting slow-motion videos, rather than limiting them to a single frame rate. How well the phones can actually handle these higher frame rates, though, remains to be seen.

Vivo says it is achieving these modes through its 4K frame interpolation and variable speed mapping technologies. In simpler terms, these help the phones generate and manage extra frames to produce smoother slow-motion footage. The X500 Pro models will also support 4K@120fps HDR video, giving users another option for recording high-resolution footage at a high frame rate.

Custom Phantom 900 sensor

Beyond the video capabilities, Vivo is introducing a new primary camera sensor on the X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max. Part of what Vivo calls its ZEISS Ultra Dynamic Main Camera system, the phones will use a custom 50MP, 1/1.28-inch Phantom 900 sensor co-developed by Sony and Vivo’s Blueprint Imaging team.

The sensor can deliver up to 17EV of dynamic range, which should help the camera retain more detail across bright and dark areas in challenging lighting. Meanwhile, the X500 Pro Max will feature 3-degree OIS, offering a gimbal-like range of stabilization to help keep footage steady.

Vivo X500 Pro Series Launch 

Vivo has confirmed that the X500 series will launch in China later this month. The lineup is expected to include the standard X500 alongside the X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max, with more details likely to surface as we get closer to the launch.
