Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox and handheld plans revealed

Next-Gen Xbox (2027) Overview

Successor to Xbox Series X

Microsoft has approved the development of a new Xbox console, scheduled for release in 2027. The device is described as a premium successor to the Xbox Series X. It is expected to deliver a significant hardware upgrade. Microsoft claims this console will feature the largest technical leap in Xbox history. The company is moving forward with full production.

Xbox Handheld (2024) 

Microsoft is working with a PC gaming OEM to launch an Xbox-branded gaming handheld. The device, codenamed Keenan, is expected to launch later this year. The handheld will have an Xbox-like design with an Xbox guide button. It is being developed to compete with Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 and Sony’s rumored portable PS5.

Another Xbox Handheld (2027)

Microsoft is internally developing another gaming handheld, separate from the 2024 partner device. This handheld is scheduled to launch in 2027 alongside the next-gen Xbox console. The 2027 handheld will introduce several new controller options, expanding Microsoft’s gaming hardware lineup.
