Xiaomi updated its popular midrange Note series in its home country. Meanwhile, the international audience received the successors of the Xiaomi 13T and 13T Pro — just in line with what we heard a little while ago. Let’s discuss the Xiaomi 14T and 14T Pro in further detail in this article, along with their potential price in Nepal.

Xiaomi 14T/14T Pro Overview

Camera

The cameras are surely the main highlight of both Xiaomi 14T and 14T Pro. The company spends a great deal of time talking about the imaging aspect of these phones on the promo material. The two phones also have a pretty similar camera setup. That being said, the primary shooter here is a 50MP Leica main camera. The base model has a Sony IMX906 sensor underneath, while the Pro model gets the Light Fusion 900 sensor. The auxiliary lenses include a 50MP telephoto and a 12MP ultrawide shooter. In terms of telephoto lens, the Xiaomi 14T offers a 50mm equivalent focal length. And the 14T Pro takes it up by another 10mm reaching a focal length equivalent to 60mm. Meanwhile, the ultrawide shooter appears to be the same on both phones. It’s the same story for the selfie snapper, which is a 32MP unit.

Given that these phones are also a Leice partnership, they get to enjoy exclusive Leica filters and aesthetics. The phones also utilise the entirety of SoC including CPU, GPU, NPU, and ISP through Xiaomi HyperOS to offer better image processing. Additionally, the video side of things is no sleeper either. You can record videos with 10-bit depth, Rec. 2020 gamut, and in HLG format. On top of that, there are features like Cinematic Blur, Rack Focus, and Dierector Mode as well.

AI, of course

Moving on to the AI, which is another key highlight of the Xiaomi 14T series. These phones come with Google Gemini which brings direct interaction capability with third-party apps. The AI also understands the contexts of photos and what is happening on the screen. Furthermore, these phones now get Galaxy AI-like features, including Circle to Search, AI Interpreter, AI Notes, AI Recorder, and AI subtitles.

Xiaomi AI Interpreter

The Interpreter feature translates language live, on call, and in meetings too. The Recorder can be used for transcription and summary generation. Likewise, the phone understands and generates subtitles for the media you’re playing on it. You can even copy those subtitles onto Notes. Moreover, the Xiaomi 14T phones tap into AI for image and video editing as well.

Design and Display

The latest Xiaomi semi-flagship phones have a similar design to their predecessor. The camera cutouts are more pronounced and cleaner, while the rest of the aesthetic remains unchanged. Both phones are available in Titan Grey, Titan Blue, and Titan Black colours with IP68 water and dust resistance. The naming would have you believe this phone features a Titanium build similar to the iPhones and Galaxy S24 Ultra. However, Xiaomi is just trying to capture the hype around the metal and it is just “inspired by” it. In reality, the phones have frames made of 6M13 aluminium alloy and a slab of glass on the back panel. The base Xiaomi 14T comes in an extra Lemon Green option too. It has a PU leather finish, half of which is made of actual lemon fibres.

The screen on this phone is pretty much the same as the 13T series, however, the company markets it as a “Next-generation 144Hz AI display”. Given that, it is a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with 1.5K resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. So, what’s the AI for? The screen automatically adjusts the colour temperature and brightness according to the usage scenario and time, ensuring better eye health and visual experience. Xiaomi also mentions that the 14T phones have AI touch control and AI video but does not elaborate on what it is about. Other than that, you get a touch sampling rate of up to 480Hz, PWM dimming of up to 3,840Hz, and peak brightness of up to 4,000 nits. Moreover, the screen offers a colour depth of 68 billion and a DCI-P3 colour gamut.

Performance

The primary driver on the standard Xiaomi 14T is the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 Ultra chipset. It is a 4nm processor with a peak clock speed of 3.35GHz and a dedicated AI accelerator. In the meantime, the Xiaomi 14T Pro jumps up a tier and packs one of the most potent silicon from this year — the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+. This processor offers a higher frequency at 3.4GHz and has a more capable NPU.

Xiaomi 14T Series Hands-on

Both phones ship in 12GB + 256GB, and 12GB + 512GB configurations, while the Pro model gets an extra 12GB + 1TB trim as well. Furthermore, they come with the Ultra Space technology, introduced on Xiaomi’s flagship 14 series phones. It is a patented feature by the company which taps into the untouched parts of UFS to extract extra storage space. So, basically, you are getting an extra 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB of space on these configurations respectively. The Xiaomi 14T come with a 5,000 mAh battery as the power source. The standard model only supports 67W wired charging, but the Pro variant takes wired charging speed to 120W and adds 50W wireless charging support.

Cooling System and other chips

The Xiaomi 14T Pro is the first phone to feature the “Xiaomi 3D IceLoop System”. It is an advanced system complete with separate channels for cooling liquid and gas to flow through. The heat dissipation unit has a dent in it which seats the processor. These tweaks apparently offer better temperature management. In contrast, the Xiaomi 14T features the traditional Xiaomi IceLoop System, with no such tweaks.

Both these phones also come with an independent security chip where you can store sensitive information. This chip offers protection against unauthorised access by malicious software that can steal your data. Moreover, the Xiaomi 14T features a Surge T1 Tuner as well. It is a dedicated chip that boosts wireless signals such as mobile network, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS, by up to 32%. There is no mention of the T1 Tuner on the base model, hence, it likely misses out on it.
