Is this new mic all about the looks, or is there more to it?

After the successful launch of Mic Mini, DJI has now expanded this lineup with the all-new Mic Mini 2. This new mic is all a content creator could ask for, at least in terms of design. Its vibrant magnetic covers look pretty cool and attractive, but besides design, DJI also claims that the Mic Mini 2 will deliver way better audio performance than their predecessors. So, in this article, I will discuss the new DJI Mic Mini 2 in detail, including its expected price, specifications, and availability.
DJI Mic Mini 2 Overview
A cute, compact design
The first thing that caught my eye was the design of these mics. DJI Mic Mini 2 comes in eight vibrant color options for the semi-transparent magnetic cover with a smooth finish. The Mic Mini 2's transmitter is slightly bigger in size, and it also weighs exactly 1 gram heavier, but I doubt that is going to be a big deal in any way.

DJI has even collaborated with “Victo Ngai”, a renowned illustrator, to bring unique designs for the Mic Mini 2's cover. Keeping the “sound” as the base concept, her four illustrations are meant to “capture different stages of life”.

This tiny accessory has a magnetic clip-on with powerful yet tiny magnets that you can place on your clothing in any direction for easy use. It also comes with a charging case that holds the two transmitters, the receiver, and accessories, keeping everything organized. And like the first-gen Mic Mini, this one can be configured with either a standard receiver or a mobile receiver that plugs in directly with your phone.
Audio quality and noise cancellation
For any microphone, the audio quality is the most essential factor. And the new DJI Mic Mini 2 supports omnidirectional wireless audio recording and has three voice tone presets (Regular, Rich, and Bright). For the best quality, you can record up to 24-bit 48kHz audio from these microphones.

Whereas you can also choose between “Basic” and “Strong” noise cancellation levels, depending on how quiet or how noisy your environment is. Like always, there's also a separate windscreen attachment you can add to reduce wind noise. Likewise, DJI says you can expect a stable connection with the Mic Mini 2 for up to 400 meters with the standard transmitter and receiver. While that number drops to 300 meters when using its mobile receiver.

Device compatibility and dual recording
The Mic Mini 2 can be easily paired with cameras, smartphones, computers, and tablets using Bluetooth 5.3. And if you own other DJI accessories like the DJI Osmo Pocket series, Osmo 360, and Osmo Action, they can connect automatically without a receiver.

You can use the DJI Mimo App to enable safety track during your recordings as well. With this, DJI says the main track will be recorded at normal volume, whereas the other one will be recorded at 6dB lower to prevent distortion and clipping. That means you can easily adjust the volume of a person whispering or shouting, which is handy when editing your content. Furthermore, the Mic Mini 2 also lets you adjust the gain to five different levels for clearer audio output.
A battery that lasts all day*
In terms of battery, the DJI Mic Mini 2 should last up to 48 hours with the charging case. While the transmitter and the receiver alone have been rated for 11.5 hours and 10.5 hours of battery, respectively. These numbers are identical to the original Mic Mini, although the charging duration has gone down slightly from 90 minutes to 70 minutes.
