Google Gemini AI: Privacy Concerns Arise

Google’s Gemini AI gained good attention almost overnight, but recently the application has sparked controversy which might eventually damage the company’s reputation. In just a few months Google integrated Gemini with features like document analysis, email replies, and predictive text suggestions across Google Workspace. But, despite these benefits, a serious issue has arisen. Gemini AI can now view private Google Drive documents without user approval, causing serious privacy issues.

Users Concern

Kevin Bankston, a Senior Advisor on AI Governance signalized this issue first. He says Gemini automatically summarized his tax return in Google Docs without prompting.

Bankston found that after activating Gemini for one document, it automatically activates all subsequent files of the same type within Google Drive. This doesn’t stop here, Google Gemini will then be activated automatically for any future files of the same kind that are opened within Google Drive.

When questioned about this matter, Google support and Gemini AI seemed unaware of the exact circumstances. Or maybe they’re just not ready to admit their mistake yet? Gemini claimed that privacy settings should be easily available, but they were not. This might mean either an AI “hallucination (lying)” or an internal problem with the system.

Eventually, Bankston found the settings toggle, and along with that, he also found Gemini summaries for Gmail, Drive, and Docs were already disabled. The settings, however, were in an entirely different location than where the Gemini’s bot had indicated.

Google Gemini Prompts

On the other hand, he added that this problem occurred only in Google Drive, not in other places. And the problem started when he pressed the Gemini button on at least one document. So Bankston thinks this problem might be due to a setting (Google Workspace Labs) he turned on in 2023, which is now messing up how Gemini is supposed to work.

A Wake-Up Call for Privacy in AI Technology

While this may (or may not) limit the issue to Workspace Labs users, it represents a severe privacy breach for those who helped test Google’s latest technology. This incident highlights the critical importance of user consent, especially regarding sensitive information.

Google’s failure to maintain its control over data access for even a segment of its user base is a major mistake. Especially because Google is such a big and important company and because people are worried about how quickly and aggressively AI is becoming a part of our lives.

We had already gotten a wind that the new Samsung earbuds would adopt a stemmed design. And adopt they did! The new Samsung Galaxy Buds3 come with stems that are rather cuboid than cylindrical. Verdict

The major wow factor on both of these phones is that they have the powerful A11 Bionic processor which is the fastest processor from Apple and has been optimized for Augmented Reality (AR). Also, the 12-megapixel f/1.8 primary camera in the iPhone 8 and the dual 12-megapixel primary camera in the iPhone 8 Plus both have a Dxomark rating of 94 which makes them the best camera phones that you can buy in Nepal. The cameras also offer the latest portrait lighting mode. 

The display on these new models supports Apple’s True Tone feature, which adjusts the screen’s appearance and color temperature so that it always looks pleasant and less blue/harsh to your eyes in a variety of lighting environments. Another key factor in both of these models is that they come with a glass back that supports wireless charging. Fast charging mode is also supported on them but one will have to buy a special fast-charging adapter: Apple’s $49 29W USB-C along with a $25 USB-C-to-Lightning power cable. However, much cannot be said about the design and build of these two models as they have pretty outdated designs.

However, the catch here is that it has been quite some time since these products were released in the global market. Also, Apple has already released it’s latest offering: iPhone X which lies on the expensive side of the scale ($999 for the 64GB model and $1,149 for 256GB) but also has topped the game of iPhones that have been released till date. OnePlus Watch 2 made its way to Nepal about a week ago. Meanwhile, the company has outed yet another smartwatch to the international market. In this article, we will discuss the fresh out-of-factory OnePlus Watch 2R in further detail while also estimating the price it might launch in Nepal.

OnePlus Watch 2R Overview

Design and Display

One of the major differentiating factors between the OnePlus Watch 2 and Watch 2R is their designs. While the former comes with a rather odd-looking protrusion on the right, the latter takes a more traditional and neutral approach. While the previous OnePlus smartwatch was an absolute unit weighing a total of 80 grams with its steel body. The OnePlus 2R is much lighter at 59 grams courtesy of its aluminium alloy build. In the meantime, it gives up on the MIL-STD-810H military certifications but keeps the IP68 and ATM5 ratings.

On the front, you get the same AMOLED panel measuring 1.43 inches and stretching 466 x 466 pixels in resolution. It also offers a peak brightness of up to 1,000 nits and is protected by 2D glass layering. In the meantime, the OnePlus Watch 2R is available in Forest Green and Gunmetal Grey colour options. You get silicone straps with this watch by default, however, you can swap it out for another 22mm with other material options.

Performance and Features

OnePlus surprised the world with its decision to feature dual-processors on the Watch 2. And they are continuing the trend. Meaning, the OnePlus Watch 2R also comes with both the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 and the BES2700BP processors under its hood. It is also equipped with two operating systems — Wear OS 4 and RTOS. This unique setup allows the watch to be energy-efficient as well as feature-rich. Additional hardware on this thing includes 2GB memory and 32GB storage.

Talking of the features, the OnePlus Watch 2R comes with Bluetooth v5.0 and allows you to make and receive calls. You also get dual-band WiFi and NFC support on this watch. Similarly, the fitness tracking on this thing is no sleeper either — thanks to the seven different types of sensors it is equipped with. To add accuracy to all the tracking, this watch comes with a dual-frequency five-way navigation system. While it can do all the regular stuff like sleep, heart rate, and blood oxygen monitoring, it also offers over 100 sports modes, out of which it can auto-detect six modes. To keep all the things running, the OnePlus Watch 2R packs a 500mAh battery that can last you about four days on regular usage.

The Chinese tech giant announced this watch on 16 July 2024 alongside the OnePlus Nord 4, OnePlus Pad 2, and OnePlus Nord Buds 3 Pro. It is priced at INR 17,999 with no discounts and will go on sale from 20 July 2024. Lastly, if this watch arrives here in Nepal, we expect the OnePlus Watch 2R price to be NPR 32,499.

A grand OnePlus event took place today in Milan, Italy. It witnessed the launch of the OnePlus Nord 4, the OnePlus Watch 2R, the OnePlus Nord Buds 3, and also the OnePlus Pad 2. This article will focus on the OnePlus Pad 2 including its price in Nepal, features, availability, and specifications.

The latest flagship tab from OnePlus has a 12.1-inch IPS LCD panel with a 144Hz refresh rate and with resolution of 3000 x 2120 pixels. Vivo sub-brand iQOO launched a new smartphone, however, it’s almost the same as the Vivo T3 Lite, and the Vivo Y28s 5G by extension. Regardless, we will look further into the IQOO Z9 Lite 5G in this article, including its expected price in Nepal.

Design and Display

The iQOO Z9 Lite 5G comes in a flat frame with slightly curved edges. It has a rounded rectangular camera island that houses two circular cutouts. In the meantime, this phone is available in Mocha Brown and Aqua Flow colour options. The former has a plain monotone finish while the latter comes with wave-like patterns. It also boasts an IP64 water and dust resistance.

Given that, the pricing of the iQOO Z9 Lite is also the same as the Vivo set starting at INR 10,499. If this phone arrives here, we expect the iQOO Z9 Lite 5G price in Nepal to start at NPR 17,999.

Firstly, let’s understand, what is deactivating an account. Well, it’s pretty much self-explanatory. It’s making your account inactive or dormant. Why would you do it? Normally, it is to take a break from the platform. Say, you want a hiatus from Facebook, but you know you’ll use your account in the future. You simply deactivate your account.

But, people do deactivate their Facebook accounts for a variety of reasons. Be it to pretend that they are studying for their exams or going through a break-up. You know the drill, it’s a national meme at this point. Anyhoo, there are some benefits to deactivating your account instead of deleting it.

  2. You can still use Messenger normally even though your Facebook is deactivated

  1. Tap the burger icon (≡) or your profile picture on the top right of Facebook
  2. Go to Settings & Privacy
  3. Click on Settings
  4. Tap on the Accounts Centre
  5. Go to Personal details
  6. Click on Account ownership and control
  7. Select Deactivation or deletion
  8. Choose the account you want to reactive
  9. Select Deactivate account then Continue
  10. Enter your Password
  11. Select a reason for your decision
  12. Choose when to reactivate your account then Continue
  13. Select Deactivate my account
  14. Done!

Quite a long and unnecessarily complicated process, I know. Again, as I mentioned earlier, Facebook wants you to stay on its platform, so that it can sell ads, and generate revenue. Regardless of how complicated it is to deactivate a Facebook account, reactivating is one simple step.
