Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 launched with bigger cover display and One UI 9

Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy Z Flip8 as its latest premium flip phone alongside the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra. While it retains the familiar clamshell design, the new model brings a larger edge-to-edge cover display, a bigger battery, and the latest One UI 9 software. In this article, I will discuss this flip phone in detail, including the expected Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 price in Nepal, specifications, and availability.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 Overview

Design and Display

Starting off, the Galaxy Z Flip8 sticks to Samsung's iconic clamshell design but now comes with a few noticeable refinements. Here, it measures around 6.5mm when unfolded and 13.7mm when folded, making it Samsung's thinnest Flip phone to date. And it also weighs only 180 grams, allowing you to comfortably use it even for extended hours without feeling major heft in your hand. 

Besides that, it features an Armor Aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, and Samsung's redesigned Armor Flex hinge for improved durability. You can also choose from the “Pink”, “Graphite”, “Cream”, and “Mint” finishes. 

On the front, Samsung has expanded the cover screen to a larger 4.1-inch Super AMOLED FlexWindow with much slimmer bezels than its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip7. Now, with this screen size, you are not restricted to checking notifications, but you can also reply to messages, control music, use Google Maps, and perform many other activities without unfolding the phone. And thanks to its 2,600 nits peak brightness, the cover display remains easy to read even under direct sunlight.

When you unfold the Z Flip8, you get a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with FHD+ resolution that should deliver vibrant colors and deep blacks. It also has 16M color depth that would help you give a better visual experience while watching HDR content. And scrolling through social media and gaming on this phone should also be smooth thanks to its adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. Other than this, Samsung has also retained Vision Booster technology that would automatically adjust contrast and brightness outdoors so the display remains clear whether you're indoor or using it on a sunny day. 

Performance and Software

Under the hood, Samsung is bringing two chipset variants for the new Galaxy Z Flip8. For the US, it is coming with Qualcomm's latest flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, while the remaining regions are said to have the Exynos 2600 chipset. This means you could notice a slight performance difference depending on the region. Here, the Snapdragon version should deliver slightly better gaming performance and thermal efficiency, while the Exynos variant should still be more than capable for day-to-day use. 

Memory-wise, the Galaxy Z Flip8 comes with 12GB RAM and up to 512GB internal storage that will let you open apps smoothly and multitask. On the software side, it runs on One UI 9.0 based on Android 17, bringing better customization, Galaxy AI features, security, and more. On top of that, Samsung is also offering seven generations of Android OS upgrades and security updates, making it a solid option for users planning to use it for the long term.

Camera and Battery

For optics, Samsung hasn't made any major hardware changes. It continues with a 50MP f/1.8 primary camera with OIS, accompanied by a 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide sensor. Up front, you get a 10MP f/2.2 front-facing camera housed inside the main display for selfies and video calls. That said, thanks to the foldable form factor, you can also use the rear camera for selfies using the FlexWindow, resulting in better image quality than the dedicated front camera. 

Additionally, Samsung is relying on its upgraded ProVisual Engine and Galaxy AI to improve image processing, where it claims to offer features like Nightography, background optimization, and better portrait processing to help deliver better photos, especially in challenging lighting conditions. 

In terms of battery, the Z Flip8 packs the 4,300mAh silicone-carbon cell, which is the same as the Galaxy Z Flip7. It also supports 25W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging, along with the reversed wireless charging for topping up compatible accessories like Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Watch. While the charging speed remains the same as its predecessor, the more power-efficient chipset should help the phone to last comfortably through a full day of regular use.
