Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 launched as the thinnest foldable phone

Continuing the Xiaomi Mix Fold series, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 has arrived in the Chinese market, featuring a complete transformation in design and features from its predecessors. In this article, we will discuss the specifications, design, availability, and expected price of the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 in Nepal.

Design and Build

To recall, the predecessor, i.e., Mix Fold 2 had a micro-water droplet hinge, stacking technology for the battery, and an 11.2mm thick in its folded state. The Mix Fold 3 is now even thinner with 5.26mm and 10.96mm thickness when unfolded and folded, respectively. It also bags the world’s thinnest foldable title and dethrones the Honor Magic V2.

The build quality is pretty sturdy. The hinge is made up of a 3-element stricture and 14 micro-hinges ensuring, improved durability with a carbon ceramic steel rotating mechanism. Xiaomi claims the new waterdrop hinge to withstand more than 500,000 folds. It also enables the display to stay at 45°- 135° angles (Hover mode).

Interestingly, the Mix Fold 3 is available in two build materials: Glass and Dragon scale fiber. The latter is more durable with an aerospace fiber composite material.

Display

On the display side, the Mix Fold 3 houses dual E6 AMOLED panels. The outer display measures 6.56 inches, with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection and a whooping 2600 nits of peak brightness. Meanwhile, the inner foldable screen stretches at 8.03 inches with a 2160 x 1960 pixels resolution.

It is an Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) with a hole-punch cutout for a selfie camera. Likewise, both displays bring 120Hz refresh rate, HDR 10+, Dolby Vision, and a whooping 2600nits of peak brightness.

Camera

Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 has a cooktop-like camera module, housing a quad camera setup. Carrying the Leica branding on top, this foldable flaunts a full flagship optics experience. You get a 50MP Sony IMX800 primary shooter with f/1.7 aperture and OIS. Plus, Xiaomi doubles the telephoto cameras.

You get a 10MP telephoto unit with a 75mm focal length for 3.2X portrait shots plus a 10MP periscope sensor with 115m of focal length and 5X optical zoom. Both tele cameras support OIS. And then, there is a 12MP ultrawide camera with a 15mm focal length and 120° FoV. Meanwhile, for selfies, you get 20MP units on both the cover and inner displays.

Performance

Running the show on the core is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. This flagship silicon features a prime Cortex-X3 core at 3200MHz, two Cortex-A715 cores at 2.8MHz, two Cortex-A710 cores at 2.8GHz, and three Cortex-A510 cores at 2.0GHz. Handling the graphics side is an Adreno 740 GPU. Xiaomi has paired the chip with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.0 internal storage. And booting the foldable is MIUI 14 skin built on top of Android 13.

The foldable smartphone gets its juice from a 4,800mAh battery. This dual-cell battery supports 67W wired and 50W wireless charging. As for the connectivity options, you get WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, NFC, and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port. Other features of the Mix Fold 3 include Dolby Atmos-certified stereo dual driver speakers and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Unfortunately, similar to its predecessor, the Mix Fold 3 could face a limitation to a China-only launch, excluding an international release.
