With so many brands in the market and showrooms growing like mushrooms, one can easily figure that electric scooters are becoming Nepali folks’ favourite commute vehicles, especially in the Kathmandu Valley. Now, a familiar name has also decided to step into the category — It’s Yatri Motorcycles! We will discuss all that we know of Yatri Scooter in this article.
Yatri Scooter Overview
“Let’s talk”, says Yatri
Yatri Motorcycles posted on their social media inviting experienced riders for lunch. This session intends to get valuable insight to implement into their upcoming scooter. Users can register themselves into the focus group after which the Yatri team will organise a group meet. Then the riders can express what they think is important in a scooter and also share what’s the best feature they like about their current ride.
This focus group is not just for electric scooter riders though. You can participate even if you have a petroleum ride or a motorbike.
Yatri P2 was always a scooter
The prices of electric bikes including that of Yatri itself go way above what a general Nepali is willing to pay for their commute. However, one can get a decent electric scooter under the NPR 200,000 mark, which is much more affordable. This is why electric scooters are so popular and are increasing in popularity in Nepal.
Yatri always knew that, and already planned for it. If you go through the company’s vision there is also a hint of what Yatri is doing right now. They acknowledge that P0 and even P1 are not well-suited for the mass market. But it has been a learning curve to build a vehicle for the mass market — Yatri P2! Given the popularity of electric scooters in Nepal, it seemed like P2 would be one as well. Various sources were already claiming that Yatri P2 would be a scooter years before this announcement. Now with the company’s call for discussion on building a scooter, it’s pretty much confirmed.
But what to expect?
Since it’s Yatri, the design of their upcoming scooter will surely be eye-catching. There is no information on the vehicle as of now, as it is just being discussed. But looking at the market, the range will surely be a major factor to consider. While Yatri offers a pretty decent range of over 100 kilometres, some other offerings claim to offer nearly double the range. So, Yatri will have to step up the range game with their scooter.
What else? Pricing, of course. The affordability has always been a major critique of Yatri bikes, so we are expecting a large part of the discussion to be centred around the pricing. Being a Nepali company, there is even more pressure on Yatri to have a lower price tag than the foreign competition. Hence, we are hoping for a really competitive pricing for the Yatri scooter.
Yatri Scooter Launch and Availability
We would be getting too ahead of ourselves trying to guess when Yatri is launching their upcoming scooter, as it’s just in its initial discussion phase. Hence, it will likely take a few years before we start seeing them running on Nepali roads.
