Black Shark, a subsidiary of Xiaomi, has just launched its GS3 Sport smartwatch. It comes with a 1.43” ALMOED display, good battery life, and other many impressive specifications. In this article, we will get into the depth of the Black Shark GS3 Sport Smartwatch price in Nepal along with the specifications and features.

Black Shark GS3 Sport Overview

Design and Display

At first glance, the GS3 Sport might not scream “smartwatch” in the traditional sense; it gives off more of a rugged, digital watch vibe (but that’s something we have been seeing on sports watches like Amazfit Falcon, Garmin Fenix 8). It features an adventurous design weighting 48g with straps included.

Moreover, the watch features a stunning 1.43-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels, a 60Hz refresh rate, 326 PPI, and a brightness of 600 nits. For night owls (like me) or late-night adventurers, there’s also a built-in LED flashlight with four adjustable brightness levels. Plus, it’s water-resistant up to 50 meters.

Battery and Connectivity

One of the standout features of this smartwatch is it offers an impressive 18-day battery life under normal usage and can last up to 35 days in standby mode. Even with GPS mode activated, it provides up to 26 hours of continuous tracking. The watch also offers over 200 customizable watch faces to match your style. For connectivity, it supports Bluetooth 5.2.

Features and Rest

Qualcomm wins legal battle over Arm chip design licensing

0

After a two-year-long legal tug-of-war, Qualcomm has gained victory in a case accusing the company of misusing chip designs licensed by Arm to Nuvia. However, not everything has been fully resolved. There are still a few loose threads in this legal adventure. Let’s dive into the details.

Qualcomm wins the battle

Who are these companies?

Qualcomm, a giant in the semiconductor world, made headlines in 2021 when it acquired Nuvia, a startup founded by three ex-Apple engineers, for a cool $1.4 billion. Nuvia was all about designing custom chips using Arm’s architecture, the brain behind many of today’s mobile processors. Arm designs chip technology and licenses it to companies like Qualcomm, who then turn these blueprints into the actual chips you find in smartphones, tablets, and laptops. It’s a bit like Arm is the architect, and Qualcomm is the builder.

The legal dispute begins

Trouble started in 2022 when Arm accused Qualcomm of misusing chip designs that Nuvia had licensed from them before Qualcomm acquired the company. Arm argued that Qualcomm shouldn’t be able to continue using those designs, especially since the company was paying lower royalty fees than Nuvia had been. Arm also claimed that Nuvia’s chip designs were no longer valid once Qualcomm took over.

Nuvia Qualcomm

However, Nuvia’s co-founder testified that the startup had only used a tiny slice of around 1% of Arm’s tech in its designs. This may have helped Qualcomm’s case, showing that the startup wasn’t exactly building a house out of Arm’s blueprints.

Jury’s decision

After much consideration, a federal jury in Delaware ruled in favor of Qualcomm. They decided that Qualcomm hadn’t breached its licensing agreement with Arm when it acquired Nuvia. This means Qualcomm can keep using Nuvia’s designs and continue building on the tech. This ruling is a major win for Qualcomm, as it clears the way for the company to push forward with its plans to enhance its chips, potentially shaking up the mobile tech landscape.

Qualcomm

Nuvia might be in danger now!

But hold your horses—while Qualcomm won on the issue of the licensing agreement, the jury didn’t rule on whether Nuvia itself had violated its contract with Arm. That part of the case might be retried in the future, so don’t put away your legal dictionaries just yet. Moreover, court testimony suggested that Qualcomm could have saved a boatload in licensing fees by using Nuvia’s designs, making this case especially important for both companies.

Looking ahead

While Qualcomm won against Arm, this legal battle is far from over. There are still some unresolved issues, especially regarding Nuvia’s role in all this. But for now, Qualcomm can continue its march forward, using Nuvia’s designs to develop new chips that could make waves in mobile devices and beyond.

LG’s new Transparent 4k OLED TV costs a small fortune!

0

At CES 2024, LG made waves by unveiling the SIGNATURE OLED T. This isn’t just a TV; it’s a glimpse into the future of home entertainment. It’s the world’s first 77-inch transparent wireless OLED TV. But with groundbreaking features comes a price tag that might leave you speechless. Let’s dive into the details of this gadget.

A TV like no other

The SIGNATURE OLED T is the first-ever wireless 4K OLED TV. But the real showstopper is its ability to seamlessly transition between opaque and transparent modes. But the innovation doesn’t stop there. The TV is designed to float above its minimalist stand, and thanks to wireless technology, you don’t have to worry about ugly cords hanging around like unwelcomed party guests.

The SIGNATURE OLED T offers a truly clean, modern aesthetic that might just be the centerpiece of your living room (if your living room can afford it, of course).

LG's most expensive TV
image: Fonearena

The SIGNATURE OLED T offers a range of innovative features that make it different than a traditional TV. Its T-Objet Always-On Display transforms it into a digital frame, showcasing everything from photos to dynamic videos, adding a functional, artistic touch to any space.

Moreover, the T-Bar at the bottom delivers real-time info like sports scores, weather updates, and IoT device statuses, keeping you informed without disrupting your viewing experience. Navigating the TV is easy with the T-Home interface, which provides quick access to apps, settings, and smart home controls. For audio, the TV comes equipped with down-firing speakers. Together, these features make the OLED T an stunning piece.

A mixed bag of pros and cons

As incredible as the SIGNATURE OLED T is, there are a few red flags worth mentioning. When the contrast filter is engaged, the TV doesn’t quite match the performance of LG’s best conventional OLEDs (like the G series). Moreover, it lacks the Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology found in those models, which boosts brightness levels significantly. So while it’s visually stunning, in terms of complete performance, it’s a step behind LG’s top-tier optionsLG signature oled TAnd here’s the elephant in the room: price. The SIGNATURE OLED T carries a hefty price tag of $59,999 which is several times more than LG’s more affordable 77-inch wireless OLED model. The transparency alone undoubtedly added thousands of dollars to the cost.

When will it be available?

The SIGNATURE OLED T from LG is now available for preorder on their official site. As for Nepalese techies like you and me, it’s a bit sad as the SIGNATURE OLED T is highly unlikely to ever make its way inside the border.

PSOs and PSPs in Nepal, Learn all you need to know about!

0

In this cashless world of digitization, we all are quite used to the terms FonePay QR, eSewa, ConnectIPS, ImePay, and mobile banking payment. Although you might know the difference between mobile banking and digital wallets, there is an even more important term to understand: Payment System Operator (PSO) and Payment Service Provider (PSP). Here in this article, I’ll be explaining all that you need to know about PSOs and PSPs in Nepal.

PSO and PSP in Nepal Overview:

Payment System Operators (PSOs)

A payment System Operator (PSO) is a licensed company that provides payment system-related services like electronic payment gateway, payment scheme, ATM Switch, Point of Sales (POS), and such. Basically in simple language, it provides a medium for banks, digital wallets, and other financial institutions to conduct digital payments. You can say, a PSO works like a backend guy for the operations of digital payments.

Payment System Operators (PSOs)
PSOs

In the context of Nepal, Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) works as the license provider and regulator for both PSO and PSP. The most common examples of PSOs in Nepal are FonePay, ConnectIPS, SCT, and NPS. Among them, Fonepay is the most used PSO which offers fund transfer and QR payments. Meanwhile,  the government-backed ConnectIPS is also more or less popular to FonePay for a cheaper Fund transfer option. Likewise, SCT offers SmartQR service while NPS is currently the cheapest medium for fund transfer from one bank to another bank.

In terms of Debit/Credit card payment, you can find VISA and Union Pay acting as Payment System Operators in Nepal, allowing domestic as well as foreign cards to withdraw money from local ATMs.

Payment Service Providers (PSPs)

Now, let’s come to the Payment Service Provider (PSP), which is again, as aforementioned, licensed and regulated by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). It basically provides various kinds of digital payment options to the general public, using the mediums of PSO, acting as a middleman between the merchant and the acquiring bank or card networks involved in the transaction.

Payment Service Providers (PSPs)
PSPs

Digital wallets like eSewa, IME Pay, Khalti, Namaste Pay, Cell Pay, MORU, MyPay are the actual PSPs. But as BFIs (Bank and Financial Institutions) can also provide such services, as licenses granted by NRB, they can also be termed PSPs. So basically, when you open the QR scan option of your digital wallet or mobile banking app, the icons you see such as FonePay, NepalPay, Union Pay, etc are the PSO, your PSP app supports.

PSO Options in IME Pay
PSO options on QR Payment via IME Pay

How does PSO and PSP work together?

In order to learn how the PSO and PSP work together. We can take an example of a digital wallet.

  • Suppose, you are using IME Pay to make a FonePay QR payment to NIC Asia Bank. The PSP (IME Pay) collects the transaction details and sends it forward to the PSO (FonePay).
  • After that, the PSO goes through the details and after verification, it routes the payment to the recipient’s PSP, which is the destination bank (NIC Asia )itself in this example.
  • Then, the PSO clears and settles the payment between the sender’s and receiver’s financial institutions, which are IME Pay and NIC Asia.
  • After that, the recipient’s PSP which is NIC Asia confirms the transaction and notifies the receiver.

Why are PSOs and PSPs important?

In this age of digitization, both PSOs and PSPs are very crucial for establishing a digital economy. As a matter of fact, both mediums need each other to operate digital transactions. For instance, you can see various PSO options inside a mobile banking app or digital wallet. While, if you use a PSO app such as FonePay and ConnectIPS, there inside, you’ll find your linked banks. So, it’s very clear that the synergy between them is very very important for cashless transactions.

List of PSOs and PSPs in Nepal

As derived from the latest data from the end of Kartik 2081, there are 9 PSOs and 26 PSPs operating in Nepal.

Honor X6b Price in Nepal [Updated]

0

Honor just launched its new budget smartphone in Nepal which succeeds the Honor X6a that launched nearly a year ago. The latest offering sees some tweaks coming from the previous launch. In this article, we will look into the Honor X6b in further detail including its specs, features, and official price in Nepal.

Honor X6b Overview

Design and Display

Aesthetically, the Honor X6b looks the same as its predecessor. Given that, it comes with flat frames, a squircle camera island, and a monotone finish. This phone is available in four colourways: Forest Green, Starry Purple, Ocean Cyan, and Midnight Black.

Honor X6b Design and Display

Moving on to the front, we can see that the display also remains unchanged. That being said, it is a 6.56-inch TFT LCD panel with a 20.15:09 aspect ratio. Meanwhile, the resolution on the Honor X6b screen is 90Hz while the resolution and peak brightness are HD+ and 780 nits respectively. Other than that, it also offers DC dimming to minimise eye strain when using the phone in the dark and it is 5-star drop-resistant certified too.

Performance

The Honor X6b comes with the MediaTek Helio G85 chipset under the hood. It offers a comparatively better performance than the Helio G36 on the last-gen despite being an older chip. Matter of fact, the current silicon comes with a better core type and performs over twice as well in benchmarks despite having a lower peak clock speed.

Mediatek Helio G85

This time around the phone also comes in more configurations. You can now get the Honor X6b in 6GB + 256GB trim, which offers double the storage from the previous offering. In terms of software, the phone has been upgraded to Android 14 with MagicOS 8.0 on top.

Camera and the rest

In the optics department, the Honor X6b changes into a dual camera setup by ridding of the macro lens that served barely any purpose. As a result, we are left with a combination of a 50MP primary shooter and a 2MP depth sensor. In the meantime, there are two additional cutouts on the camera island, one of which is an LED flash and the other is a vacant space with a white circular pattern. Likewise, a 5MP unit is looking at you on the front.

Honor X6b Camera

For power, the Honor X6b relies on a 5,200 mAh cell that supports 35W of charging speed. This phone comes with dual SIM with 4G support, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth v5.1, and NFC in limited models for wireless connectivity. On the other hand, the wired connections are handled by USB Type-C and the good old 3.5mm headphone jack.
