CES gives us a glimpse of what tech giants have in store for us for the year. And CES 2021 was no different. Well, a bit different this time because everything is virtual, but besides that, we are still seeing a host of exciting products. Asus has used the CES 2021 platform to unveil the updated ROG Zephyrus G14 for 2021. This time around, the highly portable gaming ultra-book comes with AMD’s latest Ryzen 5000 series mobile processor. This is in line with the recent trend as we also saw the Acer Aspire 2021 lineup with the AMD Ryzen 5000 series processor. Anyway, let’s look at the details of what the new Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 2021 will offer.
Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (2021)
The laptop will be equipped with the new 8-core Ryzen 9 5900HS processor and GPU up to NVIDIA’s latest GeForce RTX 3060 Max-Q. The new GPU is capable of 90fps performance at 1080p resolution. Furthermore, it is also capable of high-end features such as ray-tracing and DLSS.
ROG Zephyrus G14 is a 14-inch laptop and there will be two display variants. One is a 2K 120Hz variant with 100% DCI-P3 coverage. The display has been upgraded from 1080p to 1440p, thus, it should produce images with more details. However, for those who want to save a few bucks, there’s a 144Hz 1080p display variant available too. This one covers 100% of the sRGB color gamut.
The Zephyrus G14 retains the AniMe Matrix display on the lid. This time around, they have incorporated the Tamagotchi-style character animation into it. And the color options available are Eclipse Gray and Moonlight White.
Other specs include 32GB of DDR4-3200 RAM and up to 1TB NVMe storage. Similarly, there’s a 90Wh battery with Type-C charging capabilities at 100W. The lower-spec models will only get the GTX 1650 50W chips. And the higher ones, specifically the GA401Q will get the RTX 3060 65W Max-Q GPU. Port-wise, the G14 has one USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C port with DisplayPort 1.4 and power delivery. Then there are 2 x USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A ports, another USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C port, 1 x HDMI 2.0b video output. Furthermore, it also includes a Wi-Fi 6 interface for wireless connectivity.
The updated G14 also retains the Ergolift design. The main chassis lifts up on the rubber feet at the bottom of the screen. This helps to improve the airflow on the bottom panel. The laptop will draw in air from the bottom and the air outflow will take place from the vents under the screen and from the sides. Furthermore, liquid metal has been applied to the AMD CPU on this laptop which should help with the thermals too. The updated G15 also includes updated Arc Flow fans. However, this has not been implemented in the G14.

Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (2021): Early Thoughts
With an upgraded spec-sheet and an attractive design, the Asus Zephyrus G14 (2021) will certainly be a powerhouse of a laptop. Furthermore, they have retained the 1.6kg weight on this one, making it one of the most portable gaming ultra-book of the year.
The previous-gen G14 was plagued by heating issues. So, I am looking forward to testing how this one will handle sustained loads. The G15 has also received an update and there’s the ROG Flow X13 too. So, they might take some limelight away from the Asus Zephyrus G14 (2021). The pricing details have not yet been revealed, but we are certain that the laptop will be launched in Q1 of 2021. Thus, we’ll be sure to review this one and give our detailed opinion about the new Asus ROG Zephyrus G14.
