Sony PlayStation 5 Pro lands in Nepal with improved graphics and performance!

Sony has officially announced the PlayStation 5 Pro, an enhanced version of the PS5, which was originally launched in 2020. The new PS5 Pro now has an improved graphical performance and so much more! In this article, we will discuss everything about the latest Sony PlayStation 5 Pro, including its expected price in Nepal.

Sony PlayStation 5 Pro Overview

Design and GPU

Visually, the PS5 Pro is slightly taller than the PS5 slim model but retains the same thickness as the PS5 digital edition. The PS5 Pro features an upgraded GPU with 67% more compute units and 28% faster memory compared to the standard PS5. This improvement allows the console to render games 45% faster.

Performance and Storage

In addition to the GPU upgrade, the PS5 Pro enhances hardware-accelerated ray tracing. The increase in compute units allows for double or triple the ray tracing performance of the original PS5. This improvement will result in more accurate lighting and reflections in supported games.

The console comes with 2TB of internal storage, double that of the standard PS5. However, the optical disc drive must be purchased separately.

AI-Powered Image Upscaling

Sony has introduced a new AI-driven image upscaling technology called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. This feature uses AI to upscale lower-resolution images. Moreover, the upscaling is expected to deliver better results than the current software-based solutions, such as AMD’s FSR.

Game Boost and Additional Features

The PS5 Pro aims to offer 60 FPS with high-quality visuals to eliminate the need for these toggles, balancing both performance and graphical fidelity.

The new console includes a PS5 Pro Game Boost feature that can enhance the resolution and frame rates of over 8,500 PS4 titles. Additionally, the console supports Wi-Fi 7, VRR, and 8K displays where available.

Sony PlayStation 5 (Slim) is now available in Nepal!

Following the norm, Sony decided to announce a slimmer version of the PlayStation 5 yesterday. In this article, we’ll take a look at the design, changes, and expected price in Nepal of the Sony PlayStation 5 Slim.

Sony PlayStation 5 Slim Overview:

Size and Weight

Though we are referring to the console as ‘Slim’, Sony isn’t. It is simply the “PlayStation 5” with a ‘new slimmer size’. And talking of the size, the newer PS5(s) are 30% less in volume compared to the standard variants. The disc model now weighs 3.2kg which is over 18% lighter than the current PS5 (3.9 kg) and the digital version weighs 2.6kg which is over 24% less than the current PS5 Digital Edition (3.4 kg)-without the detachable disc drive that is. That’s right the digital or disc drive debate is finally ending. You can play both sides with the new PlayStation 5 Slim.

Detachable Disc Drive

On purchase, you can decide to get a disc variant of the PS5 Slim or a disc-less one. But that choice is no longer permanent. Sony is also selling a detachable Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive which you can attach to your ‘Digital’ PS5 Slim. This additional purchase will cost you USD 79.99/GBP 99.99/EUR 119.99 and weigh about 600 grams.

Same Specs?

The PS5 shipped with 825GB of storage which has been rightfully bumped up to 1TB. Other than that, the specs remain the same. The CPU, GPU, RAM aka the horsepower of the console don’t take a hit with the new form factor.

While the PS5 and the PS5 Slim shipped with the same hardware and promised similar levels of performance, the PS5 Pro is much more powerful in terms of graphics prowess promising an uplift of up to 45% in games.

The PS5 Pro GPU has a performance of 16.7 TFLOPS from the 10.28 in the base variant while it also has 67% more compute units and 28% faster memory. With that, you can enjoy more stable native 4k gameplay on big TVs and achieve higher FPS numbers too.

But besides that, there aren’t many other changes compared to the Slim or original, it’s slighter and taller than the Slim but has the same thickness as a digital edition. Oh, you also don’t get a disc drive by the way but you can purchase and mount one separately. The internal storage has also been upgraded to 2TB to accommodate larger games, and there’s a new AI upscaling tech called PSSR, which is exclusive to the PS5 Pro.

Finally, the console also supports VRR, 8K output, and WiFi 7 and has improved hardware-accelerated ray tracing.

2. DualSense Wireless Controller

The new DualSense controller is a significant part of the PS5 experience, building upon the legacy of the DualShock 4 with improved haptic feedback and adaptive triggers on the L2 and R2 buttons. The controller’s design has changed to accommodate these enhancements and a built-in microphone array. The “Share” button has been replaced with a “Create” button for more personalized content sharing, and the light bar has been repositioned for legacy support.

The controller now sports a two-tone color scheme, a departure from the single color tone of previous controllers. The design is more modernized and ergonomic than the Dual Shock 4 controller. It is a bit heavier and larger though at ~ 280 grams compared to the ~210 grams of the previous generation.

All in all, these improvements make the DualSense a compelling upgrade over the DualShock 4. And it is highly recommended to complete that PS5 experience.

3. PlayStation 5 Slim

While this is a revamped version of the original PS5, it does not get a new name. Though we are referring to the console as ‘Slim’, Sony isn’t. It is simply the “PlayStation 5” with a ‘new slimmer size’. And talking of the size, the newer PS5(s) are 30% less in volume compared to the standard variants.

The disc model now weighs 3.2kg which is over 18% lighter than the current PS5 (3.9 kg) and the digital version weighs 2.6kg which is over 24% less than the current PS5 Digital Edition (3.4 kg)-without the detachable disc drive that is.

Detachable Disc Drive

A new feature of the newer PS5 or the PS5 Slim is the ‘detachable drive’.

On purchase, you can decide to get a disc variant of the PS5 Slim or a disc-less one. But that choice is no longer permanent. Sony is also selling a detachable Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive which you can attach to your “Digital” PS5 Slim. This additional purchase will cost you extra though and weigh about 600 grams.

But despite the smaller footprint, the PS5 SLIM doesn’t get a performance downgrade. It still houses the same CPU, GPU, and RAM. You do get a sweet storage upgrade though from 825GB to 1TB. So, you can basically think of the Slim as a regular PS5 but in a smaller package.

4. PlayStation 5 (PS5)

There are two variants of the Sony PlayStation 5. The only difference between the two is the availability of an optical drive, since the standard edition is equipped with a 4K UHD Blu-ray drive that the Digital Edition lacks. The new Sony PlayStation 5 sports a futuristic look. Sony is right in its claim that the design is bold, stunning, and unlike any previous generation of PlayStation.

The black and white color scheme on the console matches the DualSense controller that the company showcased months ago. It is well complemented by the blue lighting effect as well. The Standard Model is recognizable thanks to the bulge because of the incision of the disc drive. The Digital Edition doesn’t have that and is thus, less bulky.

The PlayStation 5 (PS5) brings substantial improvements over its predecessor. It is equipped with an 8-core, 16-thread CPU that can reach up to 3.5 GHz compared to the PS4’s 8 Jaguar Cores running at 1.6 GHz. Similarly, its GPU has 36 CUs (Compute Units) at 2.23GHz, offering 10.3 TFLOPs (variable frequency), which is a substantial improvement over the PS4’s 18 CUs at 800MHz, providing 1.84 TFLOPs1. The newer Sony console also has double the memory of the PS4, boasting 16GB GDDR6 compared to the PS4’s 8GB GDDR5. Moreover, games also load a lot faster thanks to a custom 825GB SSD on the PS5.

Since the newer PS5 slim costs about the same as the PS5, there might be very little incentive to buy it all at full price. But, it might be worth it since they have dropped in price since launch. Here’s the thing: the PlayStation 4 has been discontinued worldwide since the release of the PlayStation 5, and this includes Nepal. This means that the Sony PS4 can no longer be bought through authorized channels in Nepal. However, you can still purchase it through other means, such as the grey market. Searching for a PS4 in the grey market can be challenging, and if you’re lucky, you might find a new one; otherwise, it’s unlikely. Is the PS4 Worth Buying in 2025?

It depends. The decision to buy a PS4 in 2025 largely depends on the types of games you want to play. Games like Battlefield 2042, Apex Legends, and Borderlands 3 are available on both PS4 and PS5. OPPO A5 Pro with Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1 launched in Nepal

OPPO dropped the OPPO A5 Pro 5G with the MediaTek chipset in December 2024 and then gave it a global makeover last month. Now, its 4G version with a Qualcomm chipset has arrived in Nepal as well. Let’s take a closer look at what the OPPO A5 Pro 4G brings to the table, alongside its full specs, availability, and official price in Nepal.

Design and Display

When it comes to design, OPPO is playing it safe but stylish. The Chinese version of the A5 Pro flaunts a premium finish with a circular camera island, while the global version opts for a rectangular island with curved edges. The Mocha Brown color is a constant on both the 4G and 5G versions. While the 5G has a unique Bloom Pink combining pink, sky blue, and purple colors, the 4G version comes in sleek Moss Green and Blue Slik (combines blue and white) shades.

On the front, the phone boasts a 6.67-inch HD+ (1604 x 720 pixels) LCD screen with a peak brightness of 1000 nits and a smooth 90Hz refresh rate to keep things moving. For durability, it comes with IP66, IP68, and IP69-rated for dust and water resistance.

It can survive being submerged in 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes and even hot water jets up to 80°C. This is quite really impressive considering that this is a just budget phone.

Plus, it’s passed 14 military-grade durability tests, which will put you on the safe side in case of accidental drops. On top of that, the phone uses a Gorilla Glass 7i and AGC DT-Star D+ glass for protection which makes it a “tough guy” in the group. For security, you’ll also find a side-facing fingerprint scanner.

Performance and Battery

Under the hood, the OPPO A5 Pro packs an octa-core Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1 chipset, featuring four Cortex-A73 and four Cortex-A53. Not to mention, the 5G features a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset. For graphics, the 4G variant uses the Adreno 610 GPU. So you will be able to perform your everyday tasks smoothly but I won’t recommend you this phone for gaming.

Furthermore, the device packs 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and a spacious 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage. You will also get a microSD slot for additional space.

On the software side, it runs ColorOS 15 based on Android 15. As for power, the 4G A5 Pro is backed by a big 5,800 mAh battery and it supports 45W SuperVOOC charging support. The phone gives you the watch time of 17 hours straight. OPPO claimed that the battery will retain at least 80% of its original capacity even after 4 years.

Camera and Rest

The camera is not that impressive to write home about. For photography, the A5 Pro 4G features a dual-camera setup consisting of a 50MP main camera and a 2MP monochrome sensor for capturing depth effects. Yes, an ultra-wide sensor is missing! You will get to shoot videos at 4K up to 60fps using the main camera.

In front, it comes with an 8MP front camera for clear photos and video calls and tops out at 1080p up to 30fps. Additionally, the device supports Bluetooth 5.0 and uses a USB-C port for charging. It also offers dual SIM support, Wi-Fi 5, and dual speakers for immersive sound.
