iPhone 13 gets cheaper in Nepal

1

While the latest iPhone 16 series is quite expensive given its latest features like a bigger camera sensor, USB Type C, and faster performance, the 4-year-old iPhone 13 might be the right phone at the right price for most Apple enthusiasts. It has received a price cut as well. So let’s take a look at the regular iPhone 13 and its discounted price in Nepal, specifications, and more.

iPhone 13 Overview:

Design and Display

iPhone 13 comes with the same flat edge design that Apple offered in last year’s iPhones. The frame makes use of aluminum while the corners are rounded. Similarly, the notch on the front is also smaller this time.

Moving on, there is not much to talk about the display. This 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screen is brighter while retaining all the features of its predecessor. Still, it would have been better if Apple had included 120Hz ProMotion on the non-Pro iPhone 13s, too.

iPhone 13 Display and Design

Moving on, the iPhone 13 has an IP68 rating against dust and water damage. It is offered in five color options: (PRODUCT)RED, Starlight, Midnight, Blue, and Pink.

Performance and Memory

Like the rest of the entries in this lineup, the standard iPhone 13 is powered by the A15 Bionic chipset as well. Apple’s latest mobile silicon is based on TSMC’s 5nm process node and packs 15 billion transistors. Still, the iPhone 13 is not as powerful as its Pro siblings. Here, Apple has included a 6-core CPU and a 4-core GPU—contrary to the 5-core GPU on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max.

Apple A15 Processor

Apple is also claiming a significant boost in machine learning applications with its new 16-core Neural Engine, which is capable of 15.8 TOPS.

Camera

At the back, Apple has redesigned the camera bump, where the camera sensors are placed diagonally instead. While the ultra-wide camera has remained unchanged, the primary camera gets a couple of changes.

To start with, the iPhone 13 comes with a bigger sensor that can capture 47% more light compared to last year. It’s the same one that was used in last year’s Pro models. Similarly, sensor-shift Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) is now on the vanilla iPhone as well.

iPhone 13 camera setup

With the new Cinematic mode, the iPhone 13 can now automatically shift the focus between subjects based on their movement. One can even change the focus after the recording using apps like Photos and iMovie. Like always, there is a 12MP TrueDepth camera on the front.

Rest of the specs

iPhone 13 also brings a bigger battery. Apple claims that the new 3,240mAh cell on the iPhone 13 can last 2 hours more on offline video playback than the iPhone 12. The charging speed is the same as last year though.

It supports 20W wired, 15W MagSafe Wireless, and 7.5W Qi Wireless charging. However, you will have to buy the charger separately as Apple doesn’t include one on the box.

iPhone 13 Specifications:

  • Dimension: 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.65mm, 174 grams

iPhone 14 gets a price slash in Nepal

0

It’s been quite some time since Apple unveiled the iPhone 14 series. The iPhone 14 is the most affordable in this lineup but was launched at exorbitant pricing in Nepal. However, you can now get it at much-discounted prices right now. So, let’s take a look at the specifications, features, availability, and the latest official price of the iPhone 14 in Nepal.

iPhone 14 Overview:

Design, Display

The iPhone 14 retains the same design as its predecessor. That means a big notch on the front and camera lenses aligned diagonally on the back. The entire body is made of aerospace-grade aluminum and is dust and water resistant to IP68 standards.

iPhone 14 Design and Display

Similarly, a Ceramic shield protects the iPhone 14’s front. The screen size is 6.1-inch and, as expected, it’s a SuperRetina XDR OLED display with Dolby Vision HDR, P3, and True Tone support. Other display features include a peak HDR brightness of 1200nits and a refresh rate of 60Hz. Sadly there’s no ProMotion this time as well.

Performance

Apple A15 Processor

Inside, Apple has packed last year’s A15 Bionic chip over the latest A16 Bionic. However, this is a 5-core GPU version of the SoC found in last year’s flagship iPhone 13 Pro models. As a result, it performs 18% better than its predecessor. There are three storage options: 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB.

Cameras

As for the optics, the iPhone 14 features dual cameras on the back, including a 12MP wide-angle primary sensor with a larger f/1.5 aperture, sensor-shift OIS, and a secondary 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens. These bigger camera sensors when paired with the new Photonic Engine deliver a significant improvement in low-light performance.

The Photonic Engine is a deep integration of hardware and software that improves the main sensor’s mid-to-low-light performance by 2.5x and the ultrawide and selfie camera’s performance by 2x. For the first time, the front camera also has an autofocus feature for selfies and video chats.

Battery

In terms of battery life, the iPhone 14 can provide up to 80 hours of audio playback and up to 20 hours of video playback. It charges with a 20W adapter and takes about 30 minutes to reach 50% capacity. There is also support for 15W MagSafe Wireless and 7.5W Qi wireless charging.

Extras

Finally, with the iPhone 14 series, Apple also announced a “Crash Detection” feature that makes use of the phone’s high-dynamic range gyroscope and dual-core accelerometer. When an accident is detected, the smartphone automatically connects to the emergency service.

iPhone 14 Series Satellite Connectivity

There’s also a new Emergency SOS via Satellite feature, which allows users to send messages even when there’s no cellular connection on the iPhone 14. For this, you need to point the phone directly at a satellite. But since satellites constantly revolve around the earth, Apple has created specialized software that shows you exactly where to point your phone to hit a satellite. This feature is free for two years in the United States and Canada.

iPhone 14 Specifications:

  • Display: 6.1‑inch (2532 × 1170 pixels) OLED, 460ppi, Super Retina XDR

iPhone 15 is now available at a discounted price rate

0

If you are looking for an affordable non-pro iPhone, the iPhone 15 is the way to go. And now, it is also quite a bit more affordable than what it launched for in Nepal. Let’s walk through the specs, features, and the latest price of the iPhone 15 in Nepal in this article.

iPhone 15 Overview:

Design and Display

The iPhone 15 shares an identical visual to the iPhone 14. While the titanium frame is reserved for the Pro/Pro Max siblings, the aerospace-grade aluminum frame is still a sturdy thing on the vanilla iPhone 15. Besides this, its rear panel is polished with nanocrystalline particles for a textured matte finish. Likewise, you get an IP68 rating for protection against dust and water drips. Apple ships this guy in five color options: Black, Blue, Green, Yellow, and Pink.

iPhone 15 Design and Display

Getting to the display, it’s the same panel as the iPhone 14 Pro at 6.1 inches in size. This Super Retina XDR screen bears an FHD+ resolution (2556 x 1179 pixels), HDR10, Dolby Vision, 2,000 nits of peak brightness, and Ceramic Shield glass protection.

Sadly, the refresh rate has stayed the same at 60Hz to bridge the gap with the Pro siblings. What’s new this time is the arrival of Dynamic Island, Apple’s “innovative” way of making the best out of a notch, introduced in the iPhone 14 Pro Series. And this finally marks the end of the gigantic notch.

A16 Bionic

Running the show on the core of the iPhone 15 is Apple’s last year chipset, the A16 Bionic. To recall, Apple brought the culture of using last-gen chips on the vanilla and Plus models from the iPhone 14 series. While it’s not as powerful as the latest A17 Pro SoC on the iPhone 15 Pro lineup, the A16 Bionic still packs a load of punch.

This 4nm-fabbed chip features a hexa-core architecture with two Everest cores at 3.46GHz and four Sawtooth cores at 2.0GHz clock speeds. Handling the graphics tasks and gaming is the 5-core GPU from Apple.

A16 Bionic Chip

As for the software, the iPhone 15 boots on the latest iOS 17. This iteration brings a bunch of improvements and customization options such as customized caller ID, message transcription, Namedrop (sharing contact through Airdrop), StandBy Mode, and such.

Camera

Getting to the optics, Apple still lays a dual camera setup on this vanilla model. However, the primary shooter gets a resolution bump this time, with a 48MP sensor. This quad-pixel camera brings 100% Focus Pixels for swift autofocus. What’s more interesting is the 24MP super-high-res mode which is set by default. Apple claims superb image quality at a practical file size with this mode. To address the lack of a zoom unit here, this vanilla model offers a 2X telephoto option as well.

iPhone 15 Camera

Moving to the front, you get a 12MP TrueDepth camera engraved on the Dynamic Island which also doubles as a 3D face scanner for biometrics security.

USB-C and others

With the EU mandating a USB-C port in different consumer electronic goods in its region, Apple has finally abstained from its Lightning port on the entire iPhone 15 Series. Unfortunately, the vanilla model equips an older, slower USB 2.0 port while the Pro siblings enjoy a faster USB 3.0 connection. You still get reverse charging via a USB-C to USB-C cable to charge your new updated AirPods Pro and Apple Watch.

iPhone 15 Reverse Wired Charging

As usual, Apple hasn’t mentioned the actual battery size of its latest iPhones but unofficial third-party teardowns should reveal that info shortly. Anyway, there’s no upgrade in the charging department since the iPhone 15’s wired and wireless charging speed is still capped at 20W and 15W (via MagSafe) respectively.

Whereas the phone still retains satellite connectivity, crash detection, and emergency SOS features. Apple has also introduced “Roadside Assistance” this time which uses satellite connection for calling in help for vehicles in deserted spots with no cellular connectivity.

iPhone 15 Specifications:

Panasonic Lumix S5 brags the goodies of the S1 in a compact form-factor at $1999

0

In an online launch event held yesterday, Panasonic unveiled the 4th entry in its LUMIX S series of full-frame mirrorless cameras – the DC-S5. It is the first of its kind from Panasonic in a compact form factor. According to the company, it is designed for both photo & videography. Let’s find out more about the Panasonic Lumix S5 including its features, specs, expected price & availability in Nepal.

Design

At just 714gm (including memory card & battery), the Lumix S5 is way more comfortable to hold than its bulkier S1 or S1H sibling – both of which weigh well over 1,000 grams. It has a die-cast magnesium alloy body with weather sealing (dust/splash resistance), so concerns about durability are out of the question. This camera is also equipped to handle temperatures of up to 40°C or 104°F which is thanks to the built-in heat dissipation. It is especially impressive when you consider S5’s compact form factor.

Panasonic Lumix S5 - Design

Lumix S5 has a 2.36m-dot OLED EVF (Electronic ViewFinder) with up to 0.74x magnification. Here, the 1.84m-dot LCD panel is of free-angle allowing users to tilt the screen to an angle of their choosing. It measures 3.0-inches and supports touch control as well. On the left side, you’ll find the dual memory card slots. Unfortunately, only one of them is the supports UHS-II card while the other accepts the slower UHS-I memory cards.

It also has a dedicated 3.5mm microphone and headphone jack. Lumix S5’s 2200mAh battery charges via a USB Type-C (USB 3.1) cable and it also features a Type-D Micro HDMI connection for external monitoring/recording. In terms of wireless connectivity, this camera supports dual-band WiFi (2.4/5GHz) and Bluetooth v4.2 (BLE). However, Panasonic says the faster 5GHz connection isn’t available in every region.

Sensor & AutoFocus

The image sensor on the Lumix S5 is the same 24.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor as found in much more expensive Lumix S1. And just like that, it uses contrast AF (AutoFocus) with DFD (Depth From Defocus) system instead of Phase Detection AF (PDAF) found in competing products from companies like Sony. Because of the slow nature of contrast AF, the Lumix S5 isn’t the most ideal option for high-paced scenarios like sports photography.

Panasonic says this design choice is in favor of better image quality. The new AF system has 225 AF areas and 0.08s AF acquisition time where the sensor & lens communicate at speeds of up to 480fps. The company says it has improved facial recognition using deep learning technology and it can lock focus & track human head, face, body, and even animals. Lumix S5 delivers great AF performance in low-light scenarios, all the way down to -6 EV.

Videos

In terms of videos, it maxes out on 4K recordings at 60fps at 4:2:0 10-bit under APS-C or 30fps at 4:2:2 10-bit using full sensor area. Here, the 10-bit videos are limited to 30 minutes of continuous recording whereas 4K/30p 4:2:0 8-bit videos have no recording limit. This is done specifically to prevent heat buildup within the chassis. However, using Atomos Ninja V HDMI recorder, the Lumix S5 can also output 5.9K RAW video at up to 30fps. It offers 14+ stops dynamic range with V-Log & V-Gamut space based on Varicam color science. You can also shoot HDR videos under the HLG profile on Lumix S5 at 4K resolution.

Getting to sensitivity, this camera caps out at ISO 51,200 (or 204800 extended ISO) for photos. It also supports dual native ISOs of 640 and 4000 for reducing noise by extending the dynamic range. There’s also a “Slow & Quick Motion” recording that can shoot FHD videos at up to 150 – 180fps or up to 60fps in 4K resolution with some significant cropping.

Images

Panasonic Lumix S5 - Live View Composite

Moving on to still images, the Lumix S5 can also capture 96MP images on top of 24MP shots; thanks to the IBIS (In-Body Image Stabilization) – in both JPEG and RAW format. Here, the IBIS takes 8x consecutive images all shifted slightly which are then combined into a single high-res image.

Talking about stabilization, it has a 5-axis Body IS with 5 stops and lens OIS up to 6.5 stops. Lumix S5 has the latest Venus Engine image processor. The “Live View Composite” feature where the shutter releases at different intervals of exposure. It then merges the bright part of the shot into a single image. You also get 4K and 6K photo modes. The latter is extracted from a 30fps video (18MP frame).

Panasonic Lumix S5 Key Specifications:

  • Body: 5.22W x 3.82H x 3.22D-inches; 714gm (w/ 1x memory card, battery); dust/splash resistant

HMD launches Fusion X1 with pre-installed Xplora Parental Control

HMD has dropped the Fusion X1, a phone built with young people in mind. This phone isn’t just about style, it’s packed with safety features like continuous location tracking, app limits, low battery warnings, and parental controls. Let’s break it down, shall we?

HMD Fusion X1 Overview

Xplora Parental Control Platform

HMD did some homework, talking to 25,000 parents and kids from places like Australia, India, the UAE, the UK, and the US. Based on that, they decided to make the Xplora Parental Control platform pre-installed in their Fusion X1 for kids’ safety. Generally, Xplora is a paid subscription-based service that allows parents to track location, get alerts, control contacts, approve apps, and even manage screen time. Sure, it’s free for now, but who knows? HMD could charge for it later as a marketing trick.

The result of HMDs survey

Design and Display

In terms of design, the Fusion X1 is sleek and looks like any other phone; nothing groundbreaking here. There are two versions: one regular set and one super special Barca Fusion edition. The Barca Fusion has a Barcelona-themed case with player signatures that glow under UV light. You’ll also find FC Barcelona-themed sounds, visuals, and pre-loaded apps. Now that’s a soccer fan’s dream (I guess).

HMD Barca edition

Moving on to the display, the device has a 6.56-inch LCD panel with a 720 x 1612 resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The brightness is typically 480 nits but goes up to 600 nits in boost mode, so it’s good for most conditions.

Performance and Rest

Under the hood, the Fusion X1 packs an octa-core Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, with a 2 Cortex A78 clocking at the speed of 2.2 GHz and 6 Cortex A55 clocking at the speed of 2.0 GHz. The Adreno 613 handles the graphics, so it’s decent for gaming and everyday use. Additionally, you get options with 6/128GB or 8/256GB storage, plus expandable storage via a microSD card (hybrid slot, so choose between a second SIM or microSD).

Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2

In terms of software, the HMD Fusion X1 runs Android 14 and promises two major OS updates and three years of security patches. For the battery, the device is powered with a 5,00 mAh battery on board with support for 33W charging.

On the camera side, you get a 108MP main sensor, a 2MP depth sensor for portrait shots, and a 50MP front camera for selfies. Moreover, the Fusion X1 comes with a 3.5mm jack and NFC support.

A worthy shot?

Honestly, HMD has made a good call with the Xplora Parental Control service. It’s a great way to keep track of your teen’s phone activities. But my question is, will teens actually want to buy this phone just for that feature? If we’re being real, the design doesn’t scream “cool,” and that’s a big deal for teens. But hey, who are we to judge? Maybe it’ll catch on.

HMD Fusion X1 Specifications:

  • Design: Sleek, minimal, two models (regular and Barcelona edition)
  • Display: 6.56-inch LCD, 720 x 1612 resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, 600 nits max brightness

Itel launches its Power 70 as a budget phone with an insane battery capacity

Itel has just launched a new budget phone called the Power 70. This phone looks pretty sleek and has an awesome battery capacity. In this article, we’ll go over the specifications of the Power 70 and discuss its expected price in Nepal.

Itel Power 70 Overview

Battery and Connectivity

Let’s kick things off with the phone’s most impressive feature: its battery. The Itel Power 70 comes with a 6,000mAh battery, which is already a good deal for a budget phone. But where things get better is the 4,000mAh charging case, which comes included as a launch gift. This gives you a total of 10,000 mAh. Just keep in mind that the case doesn’t support wireless charging (guess we will have to sacrifice somewhere), so you’ll need to plug it in via USB Type-C. Fortunately, it supports 18W wired charging, though.

Itel 1000mAh batteryAs per the company, the phone lasts 48 hours with regular use and can handle battery-hungry apps like TikTok for up to 25 hours straight. Come on, this is something we are now using for marketing? “25 hrs Non-stop Tiktok”? Well, good for you!

Design and Display

Design-wise, the Itel Power 70 is pretty standard for a budget phone. It’s got an all-plastic build with a glass front. On the back, you’ll find three cameras and an LED light (I suppose) with the words “MARATHON POWER” on it, hinting at the phone’s battery life. Additionally, it measures 165.92 x 77.31 x 7.98 mm and weighs 200 grams, so it’s not the lightest, but it’s still pretty comfortable to hold. You can choose from Black, Silver, Marine, and Gold colors.

Itel Power 70 Design and Display

On the front, it has a 6.67-inch HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The peak brightness is 700 nits, and Itel calls it a “Sunlight Display,” claiming it works well in direct sunlight. They’ve also mentioned that it supports wet and oily touch control. Sounds like a lot of features for a budget phone, right? Maybe too good to be true.

Performance and Other Features

Now, let’s talk about what’s inside. The Power 70 features an octa-core MediaTek Helio G50 Ultimate chipset, which has 8 Cortex-A53 cores running at 2.20 GHz. For graphics, it has an IMG PowerVR GE8320. The phone comes with up to 8GB of RAM and offers different storage options: 4/128GB, 6/128GB, 8/128GB, 4/256GB, and 8/256GB. You can also expand the storage with a microSD card, but it uses eMMC 5.1 storage, which is slower than UFS storage.

For the cameras, there’s a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera, both capable of recording video in 1080p. Other features include two nano SIM slots, a single loudspeaker, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a side-mounted fingerprint reader.

Itel Power 70 Specifications

  • Design: 165.92 x 77.31 x 7.98 mm, 200g
  • Display: 6.67-inch HD+, 120Hz, 700 nits peak brightness
  • Chipset: MediaTek Helio G50 Ultimate
  • RAM: Up to 8GB
  • Storage: 4/128GB, 6/128GB, 8/128GB, 4/256GB, 8/256GB
  • Rear Camera: 13MP
  • Front Camera: 8MP

  • Connectivity: Dual Nano-SIM, USB Type-C, 3.5mm jack
  • Security: Side-mounted fingerprint reader
  • Audio: Single loudspeaker
  • Colors: Black, Silver, Marine, Gold

Itel Power 70 Availability and Price in Nepal

The Power 70 is priced under USD 85, which includes the charging case. However, when it lands in Nepal, I think we might have to pay separately for the case. So, we are expecting the price of the Itel Power 70 to be around NPR 15,000 in Nepal.

Xiaomi’s Modular Optical System aims to redefine mobile photography with a detachable lens

0

Xiaomi has unveiled its new Modular Optical System at the Mobile World Congress 2025. This concept features a detachable lens that connects magnetically and transfers power and data. The phone was also featured in YouTuber MrWhosetheBoss’s latest video where he showcased it alongside the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. This article will discuss everything about the latest Xiaomi’s concept phone.

Xiaomi Modular Optical System Overview

Lens Details

Xiaomi Concept phonea

The modular system features a 35mm f/1.4 lens paired with a 100-megapixel Light Fusion X Type 4/3 sensor. The lens connects magnetically to the phone and uses proprietary LaserLink technology for power and data transfer. According to the British YouTuber, this setup offers significantly advanced low-light performance

Camera Experience

The lens integrates with the phone’s camera app, which allows users to shoot in RAW format. Additionally, it provides manual focus adjustments with a physical focus ring and an autofocus motor. The system also includes AI-driven features like portrait mode for photography.

LaserLink Technology

LaserLink enables high-speed data transfer at up to 10 Gbps. This basically allows the lens to connect with the phone, and offer efficient power and data management. The technology is compatible with Xiaomi’s AI and computational photography features.

The lens is portable and designed for easy attachment. It draws power from the phone and uses minimal battery. The system also supports future expansion with potential accessories like chargers and mobile controllers.

Expansion Beyond Photography

The system might support other Xiaomi devices, such as smart home products and speakers, using LaserLink. The lack of Qi2 support in the Xiaomi 15 series could be related to this proprietary system.

The system also provides the feel of using a premium compact camera, saving photos directly to the phone’s gallery. Manual and autofocus options give users more control over their shots. However, the system’s battery consumption may reduce phone battery life.

Xiaomi Concept Phone Potential and Availability

While still a concept, the Xiaomi Modular Optical System aka Xiaomi concept phone does show potential for future improvements. Future versions could include additional accessories like storage drives and upgraded lens quality through collaborations with other brands. Stay tuned for more information and news regarding Xiaomi.

Realme launches Note 60 in Nepal with Unisco T612 chip

0

Realme has launched two new Realme Note devices in Nepal: the Realme Note 60 and Note 60x. This article will focus on the former one. It is pretty much a carbon copy of another smartphone from Realme itself. Let’s take a look at Realme Note 60 and discuss its official price in Nepal as well.

Realme Note 60 Overview

Design and Display

As I mentioned earlier, the Realme Note 60 is quite similar to another Realme offering, which is Narzo N61. The phones look the same and share the majority of the hardware too. That being said, it features Realme’s ArmorShell protection, which is a bunch of design choices that add to the phone’s durability. This one offers an IP64 rating against ingress and water exposure, which is higher and better than the IP54 on the Narzo counterpart.

Realme ArmorShell Protection

The Realme Note 60 features a 6.74-inch display on the front. While the company does not mention the type of panel on the phone, it likely is a IPS LCD. Regardless, it offers a 90Hz refresh rate, 180Hz touch sampling rate, and 560 nits peak brightness. It ships in Voyage Blue and Marble Black colours, wherein the former features wavy patterns across the back.

Performance

The performance on this thing is delivered by the UNISOC T612 processor, which is the same as the one on the Realme Narzo N61. It is an octa-core chipset with 12nm fabbing and a peak clock speed of 1.8GHz. The Realme Note 60 comes in 6GB + 128GB configuration in Nepal.

Realme Note 60 Performance

This phone allows you to convert up to 16GB of storage into Dynamic RAM. It also allows you to externally expand your storage by an additional 2TB! Realme offers the “AI Boost” on the Note 60 as well. This feature apparently allows you to fine-tune the power output of the phone.

Camera and Battery

The camera department is led by a 32MP shooter which is coupled with an unknown auxiliary shooter. It is plausible that this supporting lens serves no other purpose than for aesthetics. Meanwhile, Realme does not mention anything about the front camera on the Note 60. However, given its resemblance to the Narzo N61, it could likely have the same 5MP unit.

Realme Note 60 Camera

Battery-wise, we are looking at a 5,000 mAh cell with standard charging speed. Additionally, the phone offers some nifty features on the software side as well. For instance, it comes with Mini Capsule 2.0 which is basically Apple’s Dynamic Island knock-off. Likewise, Realme has calibrated the Note 60 such that it does not mix up the user’s touch command and water droplets on the screen.

Realme Note 60 Specifications

  • Design: Monotone or patterned finish on the back, IP64-rated
