Major Highlights of NTC’s 21st Anniversary
The anniversary event took place at the company’s central office, with Communication Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung as the chief guest. The major highlights of the event included the closure of 2G 1800MHz, the announcement of VoWiFi, offering 25% of shares to the public, various data packs, and the activation of eSIM online. Let’s explore each of these in more detail.
Nepal Telecom to discontinue 2G 1800MHz service
As part of its 21st anniversary celebration, NTC announced it would discontinue its 2G service on the 1800MHz frequency band. Moreover, Managing Director Sangeeta Pahadi shared that the company is focusing on expanding its 4G services nationwide. Currently, 4G is available in 744 local levels across all 77 districts, with 4,324 out of 4,697 operational locations providing 4G coverage.
Additionally, NTC is making progress in preparing for 5G services, with the business strategy nearing completion and the report at its final stage.
25% of NTC shares to be offered to the public
Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, announced that the government is preparing to offer 25% of Nepal Telecom’s shares to the general public. For now, the government holds 92% of NTC’s shares, while the public owns 8%. The move aims to reduce the government’s stake in the company and enhance its effectiveness by involving more public ownership.
NTC users can now upgrade to an eSIM online, a convenience that was not available before. Previously, users had to visit NTC counters to activate the eSIM. Now, they can complete the process using the NTC app or website from the comfort of their home.
Here’s how you can upgrade to an online sim:
First, open the Nepal Telecom mobile app.
Your SIM should have a minimum balance of 50 rupees.
Next, go to the e-SIM option visible on the homepage.
Then, in the box labeled “Mobile Number,” enter the mobile number that needs to be converted to an e-SIM.

Finally, in the last box, select the district where your citizenship was issued.
After doing this, tap on the “Verify My Details” option.

The consumer tech market is fiercely competitive with brands launching new models all year round. But here’s something you might not know or even thought of: many of these brands don’t actually manufacture their own devices. Instead, they turn to third-party companies called Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs). In this article, we’ll explore what ODMs are and why they play such a critical role!
What is an ODM?
Tech companies (Smartphones, Laptops, Wearables) release their products every now and then, and you might be wondering if their manufacturing process is really that quick. Spoilers…things happen a bit differently than you’d expect!
An Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) is a company that takes on the full responsibility of designing and manufacturing a product according to another company’s specifications. The brand then sells the product under its name. Essentially, ODMs handle everything from design to production, allowing the client company to focus on branding, marketing, and distribution. And that’s how you get 6 products in 12 months from a brand that you’d thought was just a few years old!
Inside Story
Several leading smartphone brands rely heavily on ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) partnerships for their devices. For instance, a significant 90% of Motorola’s smartphones are ODM-based. Other major players in the industry also rely on ODMs to a large extent, with 78% of Xiaomi’s phones (including those from its sub-brands Redmi and Poco) being ODM-produced. Similarly, Vivo sources 52% of its devices through ODMs, while Honor and Huawei depend on ODMs for 40% and 44% of their phones, respectively. Even Samsung, a dominant force in the smartphone market, has 27% of its phones manufactured by ODMs. OPPO, including its sub-brands Realme and OnePlus, also sources 39% of its smartphones through ODM partnerships.
Don’t get confused
There’s also this other term called the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) but that’s a bit different. While ODMs design and manufacture products for other brands, OEMs typically produce parts or products that are sold under another company’s brand name without involving design. A good example of an OEM is Foxconn which manufactures Apple’s iPhones according to the brand’s design and specifications. Here, Foxconn is not involved in the design process and only handles the manufacturing side.
Why do companies rely on ODMs?
One of the biggest reasons companies use ODMs is cost-effectiveness. Manufacturing a product from scratch is a time-consuming and expensive process. By partnering with an ODM, companies can bypass the need to hire designers or invest heavily in manufacturing infrastructure. ODMs often have pre-designed prototypes ready to go, making it quick and affordable for companies to launch new products.
Other benefits
Brands like Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, and even Samsung often turn to ODMs for their budget and mid-range smartphones. This allows these companies to focus their resources on designing and producing their flagship smartphones while leaving the lower-end models to ODM specialists.
Moreover, ODM allows companies, especially newcomers with limited resources or manufacturing expertise to bring products to market quickly without the heavy investment in R&D, hardware, and production facilities. This gives them the freedom to focus on areas like branding, marketing, and distribution, where their expertise truly lies.
ODM-manufactured Samsung A01
Not just the hardware manufacturing, ODM can even handle the software side of things, though this typically comes at an additional cost.
And it’s not just smartphones that use ODM. Brands like Boat and Firebolt also rely on ODMs for their smartwatches and TWS.
Are ODM-manufactured products good enough?
Coming to this end, you might have doubts about the ODM-manufactured products. Are they really that bad??? Well, just because the product is ODM does not mean it is valueless. In fact, many high-quality devices come from ODM manufacturers. It’s not about whether the product is made by an ODM or not, it’s about the specific company’s standards and the client’s involvement in the design and quality control.
Soon after the official announcement of Qualcomm’s latest top-of-the-line smartphone chip, OnePlus unveiled its flagship OnePlus 13 sporting the same in China. This flagship offering has arrived in Nepal. In this short piece, let’s go over the major features and improvements of the OnePlus 13, its full specifications, and the official price in Nepal.
OnePlus 13 Overview
Design and Display
Looks like OnePlus is going back to a simpler design with the 13th iteration of its number series. The bold camera module is now replaced with a simpler-looking less protruding island. But besides that, the new smartphone looks pretty similar to its predecessor. One notable improvement is the inclusion of IP68 and IP69 dust and water ratings over the IP65 on the 12. It’s always something that’d be skipped over in OnePlus flagships so good to finally see it now.
The screen is also not as curved as before, opting for a pretty flat panel with slightly curved edges. It’s BOE’s X2 OLED with 8T LTPO tech, QHD resolution, and a peak brightness of up to 4500 nits. The size remains the same at 6.82 inch diagonal but the smartphone itself is slighter shorter but wider than before. And it now features a more secure ultrasonic fingerprint sensor under the screen over an optical one.
Performance and Memory
Under the hood, the OnePlus 13 is packing the Snapdragon 8 Elite fabbed on TSMC’s 3nm process. It boasts new Oryon prime and performance cores for a huge 45% boost in CPU and a 44% improvement in efficiency. Alongside that, there’s the Adreno 830 GPU with up to 40% better performance. With the new processor, the OnePlus 13 is sure to be a gaming beast, so the company has also included a new gaming vibration motor which is “the biggest in any Android phone ever”
The memory configurations are pretty similar to those before with the base variant sporting 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM alongside 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. You can spec it up to a whopping 24GB and 1TB but there are no expansion slots or SD inserts. The OnePlus 13 boots on ColorOS 15 in China but the global variant that will launch later will likely sport the company’s OxygenOS skin on top of Android 15.
The rear camera setup has the same primary + ultrawide + telephoto harmony as its predecessor. All three are Hasselblad-optimized 50MP sensors housed in a circular island on the left side. The main is Sony’s LYT 808 with OIS that we recently saw in the OPPO Find X8 Pro, while the 3x periscope is the LYT 600 (also with OIS) and the ultrawide is Samsung’s JN5 sensor. On the front, the 32MP selfie camera is carried over from the OnePlus 12 and has a small 1/2.74” sensor with an aperture of f/2.4.
Following the recent trend in Chinese smartphones, the OnePlus 13 goes with a Silicon Carbide battery over the usual Lithium Polymer ones, enabling the company to fit a larger 6000 mAh cell in a similar footprint. The 13 is slightly thicker than OnePlus 12 but the 11% jump in battery capacity is likely a worthy tradeoff.
The charging speeds don’t get any upgrade, though sticking to 100W wired, 50W wireless, and 10W on reversed wireless mode on the OnePlus 13. And OnePlus is not bundling the charger inside the box for Nepal. Given the bigger battery, it fills up slightly slower than before, but still impressive reaching 50% in 13 minutes, and 100% in just 36 minutes.

Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) is rolling out a nationwide Electronic Medical Records (EMR) System to digitize patient records and streamline healthcare services. The system follows the Integrated EMR Operation and Management Directives, 2081, and aligns with Nepal’s National Health Policy 2019, National e-Health Strategy 2074, and Public Health Service Act 2075.
Nationwide EMR System Implementation
Centralized Patient Records
The new system will integrate patient data from public and private health institutions into a single digital platform. This aims to improve data accessibility and ensure interoperability across healthcare facilities. All health institutions must register their EMR systems within 12 months of the directive’s approval.
Core EMR Functionalities
The directive mandates 21 core modules, covering key areas such as:
Online Registration and Patient Identification
Emergency Services and Medical Diagnoses
Laboratory & Radiology Data
Pharmacy & Medication Management
Blood Bank & Bed Management
Reporting & Analytics
Security and Privacy Measures
The EMR system must comply with strict security audits to protect patient data. A patient portal will allow access only to authorized medical personnel. Government access to EMR data will be regulated by law.
Addressing Existing Healthcare Challenges
Fragmented Data Systems
Currently, hospitals use separate systems that do not communicate with each other. Patients must repeat tests and provide the same information at different facilities, leading to delays and additional costs.
The EMR system will create a single digital record for each patient. This will reduce duplicate tests, lower expenses, and enable secure data sharing between hospitals and clinics.
Expected Impact
For Patients
Faster and more accurate diagnosis with previous medical history available.
Lower medical expenses by avoiding unnecessary tests.
Better access to telemedicine and healthcare services.
For Healthcare Providers
Reduced paperwork and manual record-keeping.
Improved coordination between hospitals, clinics, and labs.
Stronger data security through standardized compliance.
For Government & Policymakers
Enhanced public health monitoring with real-time data.
Better resource allocation based on health trends.
Improved readiness for health crises and outbreaks.
