Are you tired of writing sales copies or product descriptions? Want to level up your blog posts? Well, you can ask AI for help these days. And I have tested 8 of the best AI copywriting tools in 2023 to give you a detailed insight into what these AI tools can do, and which one’s the best for you.

Best AI copywriting tools in 2023:

To figure out the best AI copywriting tools in 2023, I asked all the contenders to generate content with the same prompt and compared the results. But still, how do you rank one over the other? Well… you don’t. Among the 8 tools we tested, some were better at certain things while others excelled at completely different aspects. So, I’ve assigned them a maximum of 5 points on each of the following criteria:

  • Content accuracy: Correctness of facts and statements
  • Relevance: Ability to stay on-topic and provide valuable insights
  • Human-like writing: Can you tell it’s AI-written?
  • Readability: Does it feel boring or unnatural?

By the way, although these tools have an aggregate score, the list is not ranked. A higher rating might not necessarily mean that it’s the best copy-writing tool for you. And depending on the nature of your prompts, you might get wildly different results from different AI content writers.

So strap on to your seatbelts and let’s check out the best AI copywriting tools in 2023.

1. ChatGPT

ChatGPT Logo

Let’s start off with the superstar, ChatGPT. Released by OpenAI in the November of 2022, this is easily the most popular AI copywriter out there. OpenAI has also released a more powerful GPT 4 and its plugins (beta), but we only tested the GPT 3.5 model for this comparison.

As expected, ChatGPT had no problem writing stories or complicated articles, although it still got some details wrong. Like when it told me that my Galaxy S10e had an in-display fingerprint scanner (it doesn’t). On top of that, GPT 3.5 has a knowledge cutoff so I can’t award it many points when it comes to accuracy. For the most part, ChatGPT stays on topic but by default, it’ll give you information you weren’t asking for.

So, it gains average points for relevance. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for human-like writing as ChatGPT uses a lot of passive voice and I feel like some of its sentences could’ve been a bit simpler. So it gets a point deduction there. But hey, it still feels pretty enjoyable and natural to read.

  • Accuracy: 3
  • Relevance: 4
  • Human-like writing: 3.5
  • Readability: 4.5
  • Overall: 3.75
Pros  Cons
Free to use Knowledge cutoff
Quality output No SEO features
Versatile Easily detectable as AI

2. Copy.ai

Copy.ai Logo

Likewise, Copy.ai finds its way to our list of best AI copywriting tools as well. With its plethora of templates and tools for specific content, it is equipped with all the means for your needs. From writing cold emails to rejection letters, maybe a song or a story, a witty dating profile, or a blog post, Copy.ai’s got you covered.

And the difference between using a template and a blank canvas is in optimization. These templates are properly tuned for their label so you get better results using Copy.ai’s templates. Furthermore, you can utilize their “Infobase” feature to write content around a specific database of information like your company’s services and offerings.

In my experience, Copy.ai did all things right without room for many complaints. It presented accurate and relevant data but it was easy to guess that the content was most likely not written by a person. It very much writes like an AI but that doesn’t affect the readability of its output.

  • Accuracy: 4
  • Relevance: 4
  • Human-like writing: 3
  • Readability: 5
  • Overall: 4
Pros  Cons
Real-time data No SEO features
Different tools and templates Data hallucination
Infobase feature

3. QuillBot

QuillBot Logo

Some may say QuillBot doesn’t really belong here because it’s not an AI “copywriting” tool per see, but I disagree. For the majority of people, something like QuillBot is going to be way more useful than specialized sales software.

For starters, QuillBot is more of a co-writer than a full-on content-writing machine. It’ll help you along the way, guide you, and make necessary suggestions, but won’t spoonfeed you everything. As such, it demands your attention and proofreading, which some may find to be too much work compared to other AI copywriters. Besides their co-writer feature, QuillBot also offers Plagiarism Checker, Paraphraser, Grammar Checker, and more. So if you’re looking for a supercharged AI writing assistant QuillBot might be a better choice.

As I said before, QuillBot isn’t optimal for ground-up content creation. As such, it generated content that wasn’t entirely accurate. QuillBot mostly struggles with numbers and technical details but it should be fine if you’re looking for a solution to your writer’s block and want helpful suggestions.

  • Accuracy: 3.5
  • Relevance: 3
  • Human-like writing: 3
  • Readability: 3
  • Overall: 3.12
Pros  Cons
Free tier Less suited for automated copywriting
Powerful AI tools  No SEO features
Great AI co-writer Unrefined text generation

4. INK

INK Logo

And at the opposite end of the spectrum is INK. If ChatGPT and QuillBot are for everyone, INK is especially geared toward marketers and small businesses. And this is one of the best AI copywriting tools if you want to create SEO-optimized content.

INK even claims to be the best AI-powered SEO and marketing tool out there. And from our testing, it does have a lot to offer in that regard. We didn’t go all the way to test their ranking claims with a brand new website, but the blog posts and articles that INK generated did seem to be SEO optimized with things like proper keyphrase distribution and density, H1 and H2 headings, outbound links, etc.

So my experience with INK is largely positive. It’ll create great content with high accuracy without veering off-topic and sounding robotic. But keep in mind that enterprise-level AI detection algorithms will easily detect INK-generated content and flag it as AI with a high level of accuracy. Also, be sure to give it enough context to work with, or it will stop generating midway through due to a lack of sufficient information. Like QuillBot, some may find it extra work even though it improves its information accuracy and relevancy.

  • Accuracy: 4
  • Relevance: 4
  • Human-like writing: 4
  • Readability: 4
  • Overall: 4
Pros Cons
Keyword research and SEO  Hallucination despite real-time data
Intelligent and intuitive UI Unsuitable for technical blog posts
Training resources + certification Repeats information unless strictly directed

5. Hypotenuse

Hypotenuse AI Logo Best AI copywriting tools 2023

Another AI tool that can help you boost your copywriting tenfold is Hypotenuse. This tool strikes the perfect balance between being accessible to creators and as corporate software. Like many other entries on our list of best AI copywriting tools, it has lots of templates to work with as well. Including product descriptions, blog articles, YouTube titles and descriptions, emails, Facebook ads, and lots more. It even writes more like a human than many of the tools I’ve tested before. But keep in mind that raw AI content is almost always recognizable no matter how good it is.

Overall, it’s a great AI content writer. While it did spit out incorrect information in certain cases, Hypotenuse mostly stayed on track to generate blog paragraphs and content segments. So it gets high points in relevance but not accuracy.

  • Accuracy: 3
  • Relevance: 4
  • Human-like writing: 4.5
  • Readability: 4.5
  • Overall: 4
Pros Cons
Tuned templates Less feature-rich
Easy to get started Minimal SEO optimization
Affordably priced

6. Jasper

Jasper AI Logo Best AI copywriting tools 2023

Jasper is one of the most recommended AI copywriting tools and I can definitely see why. Not only does it come with a plethora of features, but they are very well-optimized as well. Like “Brand Voice” which generates content in your brand’s tone and style by scraping through your website or analyzing your “Brand Content”. Another great upgrade was the “Enhance Prompt” feature. Content generated with and without it are worlds apart so it’s a great relief to not have to engineer complex prompts yourself.

Unfortunately, its SEO optimization is not as robust as I anticipated. Instead, they suggest you use Jasper with something like Surfer SEO but that’d be adding extra cost. One thing I couldn’t get behind was the charge after the free trial ended. Instead of billing you by the month—by default—Jasper will charge you for the full year instead. This might cost you hundreds of dollars if you’re not careful.

As for the content quality itself, Jasper is probably one of the most accurate ones by far. So it gets (almost) full points for that. But it is also easily detectable as AI which you can change to a degree by engineering your prompts. Still, stories and articles written with Jasper are easy to follow along and don’t sound out of place.

  • Accuracy: 4.5
  • Relevance: 4.5
  • Human-like writing: 3.5
  • Readability: 4.5
  • Overall: 4.25
Pros Cons
Cites sources Minimal SEO optimization
Enhance prompt Shady trial practices
Templates + brand voice

7. ZimmWriter

Zimmwriter Logo Best AI copywriting tools 2023

Perhaps the most unique entry on our list of best AI copywriting tools is ZimmWriter as it comes with a slew of unique features. For starters, now you can use AI to write things anywhere. And it works everywhere from Google Docs and Microsoft Word to Notepad. You type in something like “How do I learn Japanese quickly” in Notepad, select it, press Ctrl + 1 (or other customized hotkey), and voilà, texts start appearing right there in Notepad.

It’s honestly a little surreal the first time you use it.

But perhaps my favorite feature is the “Custom Magic Command”, where you can provide a context text, a prompt, and a hotkey. And boom with just 2 strokes of the keyboard, you can create anything from brand-themed ads to targeted marketing emails. Also, its SEO buffet offers lots of insight into how you can market your services better. Besides that, you also have a one-click SEO blog writer, bulk blog writer, and so on.

Since ZimmWriter uses OpenAI or Davinci API keys, its rating is quite similar to ChatGPT. It’ll generate your content with a good level of accuracy, but be sure to double-check factual information before posting on the internet. Again, AI text could be discernible to the trained eye but it’s unlikely for average readers. Overall, its readability is on par with other AI content writers.

  • Accuracy: 3.5
  • Relevance: 4.5
  • Human-like writing: 3.5
  • Readability: 4
  • Overall: 3.87
Pros Cons
AI, everywhere Needs OpenAI API key
Affordable  No templates and such
Custom magic commands

8. Bard

Google Bard Logo Best AI copywriting tools 2023

Based on the PaLM 2 large language model (LLM), Google’s Bard is probably the most unique one out of everything we’ve tested on our list of best AI copywriting tools in 2023 thus far. Technically, it’s a chatbot like ChatGPT, but you can use it to write pretty much any kind of content. Be it stories, poems, articles, or even code (though the last one’s pretty iffy right now).

In my experience, Bard creates pretty accurate content and has up-to-date information but it may fool you with confidently incorrect information if left unchecked. It’s always in the small details. Like when I asked it about the latest xQc-Kick deal, it confidently told me that it was an exclusive contract.

Thankfully, when I corrected it and asked again, Bard presented the correct information. Like other chatbots, it stays on topic and gives relevant information. Though the content still seems pretty AI-written it’s still easy to follow along. And one additional benefit of using Bard was I could ask it to find images, which is pretty fun.

  • Accuracy: 4
  • Relevance: 4.5
  • Human-like writing: 3.5
  • Readability: 4
  • Overall: 4
Pros Cons
Up-to-date information No SEO
Free to use No templates and such
Can find images too No prompt enhancement

Best AI copywriting tools in 2023: Final words

So that was all for my top picks for the best AI copywriting tools in 2023. These tools greatly speed up your creative process, be it in terms of writing emails, creative ads, or maybe even funny stories. Many can even produce publishable blog posts with built-in SEO optimization. That being said, it is always a wise choice to take inspiration from AI and generate content yourself because like 9 times out of 10, the raw AI output is unideal. AI tools can get you 95% of the way but if you skimp on proofreading and fact-checking, you might not have any valuable content at all.
