The AI on Ray-Ban Meta is getting even better!

Ray-ban Meta is probably the most popular smartglasses in the world right now with an integrated AI. It is a second-generation wearable from EssilorLuxottica and Meta, succeeding the Ray-Ban Stories which launched in 2021. The glasses have received timely updates, the most recent of which is improved AI and features. In this article, we will discuss the Ray-Ban Meta in further detail and put a number on what its price in Nepal might be.

Design and Hardware

These new smartglasses have gotten some trimming and lost some weight too. They now boast an IPX4 rating and come with interaction earcons for faster and more reliable responses to your commands. The Ray-Ban Meta comes in Wayfarer, Headliner, and Skyler frame options. You can style the glasses in over 150 ways with different combinations of lenses through the Ray-Ban remix platform. They are prescription lenses compatible too! The creators have announced a new limited edition transparent version of the Wayframer frame, which gives us a peek into the internals of the glasses.

Talking of the internals, the Ray-Ban Meta has a combination of different things. Firstly, there is a custom-designed open-ear speaker on each arm. Additionally, there are five microphones on these glasses which allow you to make calls and access the AI assistant. This pair of glasses also features a 12MP ultrawide camera on each side with which you can snap photos and take minute-long videos at 1080p. Then there is the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chipset under the helm handling all the processing and computing. Lastly, the Ray-Ban Meta has a built-in battery which can last you up to 36 hours with the charging case, which looks just like a regular eyewear case with a luxurious touch of leather finish.

Features and AI

While the hardware itself is about alright, it isn’t enough to set the Ray-Ban Meta apart from other smartglasses in the market. What does make it stand out is the features it offers and Meta AI integration. This wearable device benefits heavily from the fact that Meta owns all the major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. As such, you can live-stream POV videos onto the former two platforms and hear out the comments too. Similarly, you can video call your friends and family through Messenger and WhatsApp as well, opening the possibility for easier hands-free communication.

The Meta AI integration is by far the greatest feature and the main selling point of the Ray-Ban Meta. Users can say “Hey Meta” to access the conversational assistant and ask for help. It’s not just limited to search and answer types of queries, it can utilise the built-in camera, understand the context, and help you out accordingly. For instance, you could ask the smartglasses to translate a foreign text you are looking at. Or look at a historical site and pull up information about it.

It got even better

The Ray-Ban Meta was already capable enough, now the AI and features got even better and richer. Now the Meta AI retains the memory of the recent conversation, so you can ask follow-up questions without saying “Hey Meta”. Likewise, you no longer need to say “look and” for your glasses to see and inform you about what you’re looking at. Just ask away… These glasses can now remember other things and set up reminders as well. Like, you could ask the Ray-Ban Meta to remember where you put your keys or parked your car, and such.

These glasses were already capable of video calls on WhatsApp and Messenger but now you can also send voice messages only. Furthermore, Ray-Ban Meta can act as a real-time tourist guide for you. Meta has added video input to its AI, which is now able to tag along through your journey, plan routes, and so on. Moreover, these glasses will soon be getting live speech translation features as well. The AI is being better integrated into Spotify and Amazon Music and expanded to Audible and iHeart. With this, you can ask the glasses about the music or audiobook you are listening to.

Apart from AI things, Meta has partnered with Be My Eyes. It is a free app that allows visually impaired individuals to connect with regular sighted volunteers for guidance on what is in front of them. Since Ray-Ban Meta specialises in POV videos, this partnership will help blind individuals, as they will not have to point their smartphones towards whatever they are looking at. As a result, they will have both hands free for the chores they are trying to perform.

Xiaomi is always known for its best value-for-money smartphones with superior specs. Right now, the company has expanded its Xiaomi 14 lineup with two new additions under the T Series. To begin with, the Xiaomi 14T Pro features a unified design with four camera lenses arranged in a 2×2 grid in the top left of the rear. On the side of the device, you get volume buttons and what appears to be a power button. Both models are available in Black, Blue and Brown.

The Xiaomi 14T Pro debuts the “Xiaomi 3D IceLoop System,” an innovative cooling solution with distinct channels for liquid and gas circulation. The heat dissipation unit is designed with an indentation to house the processor, enhancing temperature management for improved performance.

Moreover, it features Ultra Space technology, first introduced with Xiaomi’s flagship 14 series smartphones. This proprietary innovation utilizes unused portions of UFS storage to unlock additional capacity, providing an extra 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB of storage, depending on the configuration. Meanwhile booting the phone is Xiaomi HyperOS built on top of Android 14.

Camera and Battery

In terms of cameras, the Xiaomi 14T Pro comes with a 50MP main camera with a Light Fusion 900 sensor, a 50MP telephoto, and a 12MP ultrawide. Moreover, for the selfie, the phone has a 32MP selfie camera.

Acer Aspire 5 (i5 12450H) Overview

It’s got power at an affordable price

One of the major highlights of this Aspire 5 is definitely the H-class chip inside. It’s got an 8 Core (4 Performance + 4 Efficiency) i5 12450H Intel CPU that clocks up to 4.4GHz. With this, you can not only hope for snappy single-core performance for everyday activities like launching applications and exploring the web but also take on heavier things like rendering for example.

Unfortunately, the catch here is that there is no dedicated GPU and the one inside the i5 12450H is also Intel’s weaker UHD graphics and not Iris Xe. As such, gaming is mostly a no-go here. There’s also an Aspire 7 available in the market that has the same Intel CPU but with an NVIDIA RTX 2050 (4GB), but that one’s about 30% more expensive. So yeah, for the price, this one’s still very well specced.

Design and Display

Talking of other things like the build, it’s just about what you’d expect from a budget notebook. You are getting an 18mm thick machine that weighs about 1800 grams and is made mostly out of plastic. That’s not exactly heavy or bulky for a laptop so it’d be perfect for students and office folks. The weight of the charging brick isn’t specified but given the 90W label and drawing from experience, the overall package of around 2 kilos for everyday commute is just about the sweet spot.

Moreover, the 15.6-inch screen is an IPS panel with a Full HD resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. The colors, refresh rate, and brightness levels aren’t especially interesting but hey look at that price tag once more.

Battery and Others

Now that we are done with the major stuff, other things like battery life, ports, and connectivity also deserve mention. The battery is unfortunately the same 50Wh cell you’d get in the U-powered laptops so expect less than 4 hours of battery life because of the more powerful CPU. Onto the ports, there’s a Thunderbolt 4 port, so you can reduce some of the heft I talked about earlier by using a PD charger for both your phone and laptop. Complementing that you get three 5Gbps Type-A ports, an HDMI, an ethernet jack, and a 3.5mm audio port. Additionally, you get a backlit keyboard and a fingerprint sensor too. Regardless to say, it’s a lot of features for a budget machine.

Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy Tab S10+, a new addition to its premium tablet lineup. The device comes with a range of different features, including a flagship dimensity chipset. Vivo has launched the Vivo V40e smartphone in Indonesia. This phone is a toned-down version of the V40 while maintaining the same premium design profile. Without further ado, let’s get into the specs, features, and expected price of the Vivo V40e in this article.

Design and Display

As mentioned earlier, the V40e brings in the same premium vibe as the more expensive Vivo V40. So, you get a 3D curved display and a curved back panel with a slim middle frame. The camera module here is slightly identical to the V40 while the Aura flashlight is also here to stay. For protection against dust and water, there is an IP64 rating as well. Vivo ships this guy in two shades: Royal Bronze and Mint Green.

Talking of the display, you’re looking at a 6.77-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR 10+. It secures SGS low blue light certification and support for the P3 color gamut.

Performance

Tecno launched the Spark Go 1 in the Nepali market a few days ago. Now, the Transsion Holdings subsidiary just announced the Pop 9 5G in our neighbouring country — India. This new phone comes with a 48MP Sony AI camera, which is apparently the first time in the segment. In this article, we will discuss the Tecno Pop 9 5G in further detail, including its expected price in Nepal.

Tecno Pop 9 5G Overview

Design and Display

The latest Tecno offering is a pretty standard-looking phone that comes with IP54 water and dust resistance. It ships in three colours: Midnight Shadow, Azure Sky, and Aurora Cloud. If you do not like the default choices, Tecno has included two poppy vibrant looking skins with the Pop 9 in the box. The latter two options have a patterned finish, while the former is a monotone option. Its camera setup looks pretty interesting — it is an awful lot like the iPhone 16‘s cutout, sitting inside a larger squircle island.

Almost all the information on the display of the Tecno Pop 9 is under wraps at this time. We do not know the panel type or the resolution. Even the screen size is currently unknown. However, the company did reveal that it is a 120Hz display.

Performance

Under the hood, it has a MediaTek Dimensity 6300, an entry-level 5G chipset. It has eight cores, comes in 6nm fabbing, and offers a peak clock speed of 2.4GHz. Similarly, the Tecno Pop 9 is available in two different configurations: 4GB + 64GB, and 4GB + 128GB. The phone allows you to virtually expand the memory by an addition 8GB.

Furthermore, it boots on Android 14 with the company’s custom UI on top. In the tank, it has a 5,000 mAh battery with 18W charging support.

Camera and the rest

One of the main highlight of this phone is that it comes with 48MP primary camera with Sony IMX582 sensor underneath. Though there is an extra cutout on the back, there are no auxiliary lenses. Meanwhile, the company has not specified the specs of the front camera.

Another attractive feature of the Tecno Pop 9 is that it has NFC support, which as per the company is a first-time in the 5G phones in this price segment. Other than that, this phone has dual speakers with Dolby Atmos support and an IR blaster with which you can control other appliances in your home.
