Sony ZV-E1 vlogging camera goes official in Nepal with a full-frame 12MP sensor

3

Sony is a veteran player in the market when it comes to cameras. The company’s ZV Series has been pretty popular among bloggers, thanks to its lightweight and handy form factor. Now, the company has finally launched the  Sony ZV-E1 in Nepal. It features impressive specs such as a BIONZ XR engine, and a full frame 12MP sensor. Let’s get into the specs, features, and expected price of the Sony ZV-E1 in Nepal here.

Sony ZV-E1 Camera Overview:

12MP Full-Frame Sensor

The key highlight of the Sony ZV-E1 camera is its full-frame 12MP CMOS sensor. To note, the previous gen ZV E10 camera had a 1.5X crop lens and this one becomes the first ZV model to use a full-frame one.

For starters, full-frame lenses provide a higher dynamic range and shallow depth of field alongside a wider field of view (FOV) as compared to crop sensors. The latter one takes zoomed-in shots, for example, using a 24mm lens on 1.5X crop sensors will generate 36mm images. On the other hand, full-frame sensors will provide a 24mm output with the same lens.

Sony ZV-E1 Vlog Camera

With a 12MP full-frame unit, the ZV-E1 uses a full-pixel readout with no binning in all modes. This 35-mm CMOS image sensor also ensures better low-light imageries thanks to backside-illuminated (BSI) technology. It can capture up to 4K 60p videos currently but the limit will max out to 120fps, for which Sony plans to air an update, by the way.

Furthermore, the ZV-E1 is capable of 10-bit 4:2:2 videos for more flexibility for color grading. On top of that, the lens gets the support of Sony’s BIONZ XR engine providing precise gradation rendering, color reproduction, and better low-noise performance.

Design

As a vlogging-centric camera, the Sony ZV-E1 is a lightweight machine at just 483 grams. The camera includes a single rear dial and a motor zoom control in place of the front dial. Talking of additional controls, you get three programmable buttons, an Fn button, and Sony’s customary D-Pad.

Sony ZV-E1 Design Body

Likewise, there is a Still/Movie/S&Q switch, product showcase button, and backdrop defocus button as well. The ZV-E1 also sports a tally light that is visible from the top and front. The camera is compatible with all E-mount lenses, including the top-end G Master series.

Touchscreen and Mic

For other camera controls, the camera boasts an LCD touchscreen display. The screen is an articulating type that is flexible to reposition on various angles for capturing vlogs. Moreover, it uses 3 Capsule Microphone for capturing clear audio. Users can set the mic’s directivity to Front, Rear, All Directions, or Auto as per need. And there is no electronic viewfinder as expected on a vlog camera.

Stabilization, AF, AutoFraming

What makes the ZV-E1 so interesting is its 5-axis in-body stabilization. To make use of it, Sony provides two modes: “Active” optical mode and “Dynamic Active” modes. The first one is said to reduce shakes while walking. And the latter one ensures more smoothness for rapid movements with some extra cropping though.

Sony ZV-E1

The vlogging camera borrows the Real-time Recognition AF from its A7R sibling. This helps the lens to detect different subjects like humans, animals, birds, insects, and moving objects like cars/trains, and airplanes.

Moving on, the ZV-E1 also features an AI-based auto-framing mode that crops the frame to keep the subject in focus for those solo vlogging actions. For two persons, it employs multiple face recognition, which modifies the aperture to allow for the sharp focus of both subjects.

It can simultaneously capture two different image types: a full image for an HDMI output and a cropped image for an internal memory card.

Rest of the Specs

Furthermore, the Sony ZV-E1 comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack, a single SD UHS-II card slot, a micro-HDMI output, and a USB-C port. There is no video output via I/O ports but the camera can also act as UVC/UAC webcam with support for up to 4K 30p video via the USB-C port. And users can also transfer files via the Creators’ App on a smartphone.

Sony ZV-E1 Specifications:

  • Lens: 12MP Full-Frame CMOS BSI Sensor
  • Auto Focus: Real-time Recognition, AI Auto Framing
  • Stabilization: 5-axis in-body stabilization
  • Video: Up to 4k 60fps, (120fps to be made available via an OTA update), 10-bit 4:2:2
  • Microphone: 3 Microphones
  • Smartphone Companion App: Creator’s Studio

Samsung’s “Ballie” home robot is finally set to launch this summer

0

Samsung is finally ready to release its long-teased home robot, Ballie. First shown off at CES 2020, Ballie was Samsung’s vision for a friendly AI assistant that roams around your home. After years of development delays and a couple of redesigns, the company has confirmed that Ballie will be available this summer in the US and South Korea. So, what’s new, what can it do, and how does it stand out in the growing home robot scene? Let’s break it down.

What is Samsung Ballie?

Okay.

So, like I mentioned before, the Samsung Ballie home robot was first introduced at CES 2020, with the company aiming to revolutionize home assistance through AI-driven technology. However, over the past five years, the company faced several challenges that delayed its release.

These included technological hurdles in perfecting its AI capabilities and mobility, as well as the need to ensure seamless integration with a wide range of smart home devices. Moreover, the company took a cautious approach to address privacy and data security concerns, all while striving to create a user-friendly and non-intimidating design. These factors collectively contributed to the extended development timeline.

Interacting with Samsung Ballie

Fast forward to CES 2024, Samsung offered a refreshed look at Ballie, showcasing a more refined version of the home assistant. Now, that version is finally making its way to store shelves. Ballie sports a ball-shaped design, rolls around on two wheels, and features a compact form factor that blends naturally into home environments without appearing overly robotic.

What can Samsung Ballie do?

Ballie is more than just a rolling companion. It’s equipped with a projector, speaker, and microphone, which enhance its functionality beyond just being a basic robot. It connects to other smart devices through Samsung’s SmartThings platform, which means Ballie can control various devices like lights and thermostats as well.

Advanced AI and interactive features

One of the biggest upgrades to Ballie lies under the hood. To enhance its intelligence, Samsung partnered with Google Cloud to integrate the Gemini AI model, giving Ballie multimodal capabilities and allowing it to process voice commands, audio, and visual input simultaneously.

When combined with Samsung’s own language models, this enables more natural interactions and better real-time adaptation to its surroundings.

As a result, Ballie can understand voice commands, analyze its environment using its built-in camera, and adjust settings based on user behavior. Over time, it learns routines, recognizes faces, and interprets objects in the room. This means it can offer personalized suggestions, like recommending outfits, sharing health tips, or optimizing home settings for better sleep.

Samsung Ballie Home Robot Features,Specification and Pre Order

And since Ballie features a built-in projector, it can even display information, videos, or reminders on walls, floors, or other surfaces within the home. This adds a visual element, providing a more interactive way to view updates or content. Together, these features allow Ballie to integrate more naturally into a digital home environment.

Market challenges

Samsung is entering a competitive market where major companies like Apple, Meta, Google, and LG are also developing home robots. While the market for general-purpose robots is still evolving, these devices haven’t yet become mainstream, primarily because many lack a clear, everyday use case.

Compared to other tech giants, Samsung’s approach with Ballie seems more focused on mobile, personalized assistance. While Apple and Google are still rooted in static smart speakers or displays. Meta has its Portal line (now discontinued), and LG has experimented with various robotic concepts, but none have seen a proper consumer release like Ballie is set to receive.

Samsung Ballie Price and Availability

So far, Samsung has yet to disclose the exact pricing details for Ballie, though its advanced capabilities suggest it will be a premium product. Furthermore, global trade concerns, including new tariffs in the US, may be contributing factors to the lack of pricing details.

However, the fact that Ballie is finally reaching consumers in the US and South Korea after a five-year wait is a milestone in itself. And whether Ballie becomes a common device in smart homes or just a rare novelty will depend on how well it works in everyday use once it’s available.

GPMI: A new cable standard that could replace HDMI and USB-C

A group of more than 50 Chinese tech companies, under the Shenzhen 8K UHD Video Industry Cooperation Alliance, has announced a new wired communication standard called GPMI (General Purpose Media Interface). This new cable standard is designed to handle high-bandwidth data and power over a single cable, potentially simplifying setups that currently require multiple connections. This article will discuss everything about the latest GPMI Cable, including its features and capabilities in more detail.

GPMI Cable Overview

What can GPMI do?

GPMI

The GPMI standard supports 8K video transmission, high-speed data transfer, and power delivery — all through one cable. It’s being introduced in two types:

  • GPMI Type-B: Uses a proprietary connector, supports up to 192 Gbps bandwidth and delivers 480 watts of power.

  • GPMI Type-C: Compatible with existing USB-C ports, supports up to 96 Gbps bandwidth and 240 watts of power delivery.

This means GPMI Type-C can charge a laptop, output video to a monitor, and carry data at high speeds all at once, using the same physical shape as a regular USB-C cable.

How It Compares to Existing Standards

Standard Bandwidth Power Delivery
HDMI 2.1 FRL 48 Gbps No Power
HDMI 2.1 TMDS 18 Gbps No Power
DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR20) 80 Gbps No Power
USB4 40 Gbps 240W
Thunderbolt 4 40 Gbps 100W
GPMI Type-C 96 Gbps 240W
GPMI Type-B 192 Gbps 480W

The GPMI Type-C version already outperforms Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 in terms of bandwidth, while matching the latest USB power delivery specs. The Type-B version is even more powerful, though it uses a new, non-standard connector.

One Cable to Simplify Everything

The idea behind GPMI is simple: reduce clutter by merging video, data, and power into one cable. This means no more separate HDMI, power, and USB cords when setting up a laptop, monitor, or media box. It also supports a universal control system (similar to HDMI-CEC), allowing you to use a single remote for all connected devices.

If GPMI becomes widely adopted, we could see neater desk setups and simpler TV installations.

What GPMI Can’t Do (Yet)

While GPMI sounds promising, there are some caveats:

  • Your computer, monitor, or TV must have GPMI-compatible ports. Just having a USB-C shape isn’t enough.

  • Existing USB-C devices won’t automatically benefit from GPMI speeds or power delivery unless they explicitly support the standard.

  • Adoption is still very limited — there are no mainstream laptops, GPUs, or TVs that support GPMI as of now.

  • The Type-B connector is proprietary, meaning it may face hurdles in adoption unless widely licensed.

Also, while GPMI Type-B can deliver 480W of power, it’s still not enough to power high-end desktop GPUs like the RTX 5090, which can consume more than that on its own.

Should You Care Right Now?

Right now, GPMI is a future-facing standard. It could replace HDMI and USB-C for many use cases, especially in high-end 8K setups, gaming laptops, and all-in-one PC solutions. But until device makers adopt it, it remains a powerful idea — not a practical reality.

The Bottom Line

GPMI combines fast data, high-resolution video, and powerful charging in one cable. If widely adopted, it could simplify how we connect laptops, TVs, and other devices. But until hardware manufacturers start building GPMI ports into their devices, it’s not something you can use just yet, even if the cable looks like a regular USB-C.

OPPO Find X8 Ultra brings Snapdragon 8 Elite, satellite SOS, and bigger battery

0

OPPO has released the Find X8 Ultra as the top-end model in the X8 lineup. It improves in several areas over the X7 Ultra and the standard X8. These include display quality, performance, camera features, charging speed, and satellite connectivity. This article will discuss everything about the latest OPPO Find X8 Ultra, including its expected price in Nepal, specifications and availability.

OPPO Find X8 Ultra Overview

Display

Oppo Find X8 Ultra price in Nepal

The Find X8 Ultra uses a 6.82-inch LTPO AMOLED display. It supports a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and peaks at 4500 nits brightness. In addition, it uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2, replacing the Gorilla Glass 7i found on the regular X8. While it matches the X7 Ultra in size and resolution, it introduces a newer panel that could improve power efficiency. Compared to the standard X8, the Find X8 Ultra is both larger and sharper.

New Snapdragon 8 Elite processor

The device features the new Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset built on a 3nm process. It includes two high-performance Oryon V2 cores clocked at 4.32GHz and six additional cores at 3.53GHz. This is an upgrade from the Dimensity 9400 found in the regular X8 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 used in the X7 Ultra. Additionally, the Find X8 Ultra launches with Android 15 and OPPO’s ColorOS 15, while the X7 Ultra came with Android 14.

The phone comes in three storage options: 256GB with 12GB RAM, 512GB with 16GB RAM, and 1TB with 16GB RAM. All variants use UFS 4.1, which offers faster read and write speeds than UFS 4.0 used in the X8 and X7 Ultra. Furthermore, the 1TB model includes support for satellite communication. It allows emergency SOS messaging and calls in areas without regular network service.

Camera

The Find X8 Ultra features a quad-camera setup. It includes a 50MP wide sensor, a 50MP ultrawide sensor, and two separate telephoto lenses. One telephoto lens offers 2.8x zoom and uses a larger 1/1.56″ sensor than the one found on the X7 Ultra.

The second telephoto lens provides 6x optical zoom using a 1/1.95″ sensor, which is also larger than on the X7 Ultra. The camera system also includes a color spectrum sensor and laser autofocus. Compared to the triple-lens setup on the standard X8, this model adds more zoom flexibility and better light capture.

On the front, the phone includes a 32MP camera with autofocus. It supports 4K video recording at up to 60fps. In addition, both front and rear cameras support electronic image stabilization and Dolby Vision for video recording.

Connectivity and new Bluetooth version

The Find X8 Ultra supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. It includes dual-band GNSS support across GPS, BDS, Galileo, QZSS, and GLONASS. The phone also has NFC, an infrared port, and USB-C 3.2. The inclusion of Bluetooth 5.4 is a step up from previous models in the series.

Bigger battery and faster wireless charging

The Find X8 Ultra has a 6100 mAh battery. It supports 100W wired charging, 80W wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging. This is a significant upgrade from the X8, which has a 5630 mAh battery and 50W wireless charging. The X7 Ultra has a 5000 mAh battery, making the Find X8 Ultra the largest in the lineup.
