Xiaomi Watch S4 arrives with gesture controls and ecosystem integration

Xiaomi recently held a launch event revealing a bunch of new products. The latest releases also included the successor to the Xiaomi Watch S3. While this new watch carries over a lot of characteristics from its predecessor, it adds a handful of nifty features. Let’s take a look at the Xiaomi Watch S4 in further detail and also discuss what its price in Nepal might be.

Xiaomi Watch S4 Overview

What’s new?

The Xiaomi Watch S4 does not look all that different from the previous model, the upgrades come on the inside. Firstly, the company has launched an eSIM variant allowing users to connect to mobile networks without a smartphone. Likewise, you can also use this watch as a walkie-talkie — both over cellular and Bluetooth. It works over a maximum distance of 200 metres in the latter mode. You get noise reduction during calls too.

With HyperOS 2, the Xiaomi Watch S4 has been highly integrated into the ecosystem significantly increasing its usability. The watch already offered general tasks like remote control of the smartphone camera, finding the device, and earbuds’ settings. Now, you can even control Mijia (smart home) devices and Xiaomi Car. Furthermore, you can do so with gestures like snapping fingers and clinching the wrist.

Xiaomi Watch S4 Ecosystem

The Car Keys feature which uses the watch’s NFC has now been expanded to include more brands such as Lotus and select BYD models. Xiaomi has also increased third-party application support on the Watch S4.

Design and Display

As I mentioned earlier, the general design of the watch has barely changed from last year. The dimensions and weight of the Xiaomi Watch S4 are nearly the same as those of the S3. It is still 5ATM water resistant and comes with interchangeable bezels. However, Xiaomi has widened the straps and bezel options for the watch.

Xiaomi Watch S4 Design

The case is pretty much the same for the display as well. It is the same 1.43-inch AMOLED panel stretching 466 pixels all around. It has the same 326 PPI pixel density and standard 60Hz refresh rate. While most of the display’s characteristics are the same — the Xiaomi Watch S4 reaches a much higher brightness of 2,200 nits and is designed to neglect touch commands from water droplets.

General Features and Battery

While the latest Xiaomi watch comes with a handful of nifty features, it has not forgotten the general ones. It does all the fitness and vitals tracking. You get over 150 sports modes and a GNSS chip for precision tracking with five different satellites. Additionally, the Xiaomi Watch S4 can track skiing and is powered by AI to offer better insight into running sessions. It also records heart rate, blood oxygen, stress, sleep, and women’s health.

Xiaomi Watch S4 Ski

Finally, regarding battery, this watch packs a 486mAh cell — the same capacity as its predecessor. It generally lasts 15 days, however, the battery life gets cut by a third when you turn on AOD. In the meantime, the eSIM variant offers much less backup capping out at just seven days. It goes out even faster when you push it — in just three days.

Xiaomi 15 is finally here with the new Snapdragon 8 Elite chip inside

0

After months of whispers and rumours, Xiaomi has finally unveiled its flagship phone for 2024. This phone packs the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, making it the first commercially available phone with the processor. It also has other interesting things going on, of course — which we will discuss in this article. So, let’s delve into the details of the Xiaomi 15, and guess its potential price in Nepal as well.

Xiaomi 15 Overview

Snapdragon 8 Elite

As I mentioned earlier, Xiaomi 15 is the first-ever phone to pack the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset inside. Apart from the new naming scheme, this processor comes in the 3nm fabrication, making it the first Qualcomm silicon to have this lithography.

Snapdragon 8 Elite - Xiaomi Teaser

Furthermore, the chipset has a new in-house Oryon CPU architecture with two prime and six performance cores. It does not have any efficiency cores, whatsoever. In the meantime, the prime cores clock in at a whopping 4.32GHz, while the performance cores rest at 3.53GHz. For reference, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 peaked at 3.3GHz, which is less than the frequency output of Snapdragon 8 Elite’s weaker cores.

All this is to say, the Snapdragon 8 Elite brings a significant performance boost to the Xiaomi 15.

Design and Display

Appearance-wise the Xiaomi 15 does not deviate much from its predecessor. It has the same flat frames with flat edges. The camera island remains in the same position retaining the squircle shape. It is IP64-rated and available in a plethora of colour choices.

The regular lineup includes Lilac, Light Green, Black, White, and Bright Silver. The latter looks very unique with its flashy metallic colour and groovy patterns. You can also get the Xiaomi 15 in three limited-edition options clad in leather and encrusted with diamonds. You can choose from Glacier White, Elephant Grey, and Orange shades.

On the front, it has a 6.36-inch 8T LTPO OLED display that is curved on the edges. It is surrounded by minimal bezels that are just 1.38 mm thick. Additionally, this screen stretches 1.5K in resolution and offers up to 120Hz refresh rate. Similarly, users get to enjoy a touch sampling rate and a peak brightness of up to 300Hz and 3,200 nits respectively. The Xiaomi 15 is triple TÜV Rheinland certified and is easy on your eyes. Meanwhile, the Xiaomi “Dragon Crystal” Glass adds durability to the screen.

Additional Hardware

Moving on to additional internal hardware, you can configure the Xiaomi 15 in four different trims. Those being 12GB + 256GB, 12GB + 512GB, 16GB + 512GB, and 16GB + 1TB. The memory in here is an LPDDR5X, while the storage is UFS 4.0. Xiaomi does not mention anything about its patented Ultra Space, which offers extra storage space in your phone. It was available in last year’s flagship and the Xiaomi 14T series though.

The Xiaomi has a 5,400 mAh silicon-carbon battery in the tank and supports 90W wired and 50W wireless charging. Likewise, it can reverse charge other devices wirelessly too. The Xiaomi 15 features a larger heat dissipation unit to keep things cool and smooth.

Camera

This phone is also stacked in the camera department. It is equipped with three shooters altogether, the main one being a 50MP unit with a Light Hunter 900 sensor underneath. The auxiliary lenses on the Xiaomi 15 are a telephoto lens and an ultrawide snapper — both of 50MP resolution. The former doubles down as a macro shooter as well, capable of getting as close as 10cm.

Xiaomi 15 Camera

Meanwhile, it has a 32MP camera on the front for selfies.

Xiaomi 15 Specifications

How to get a domain name for free in Nepal?

Are you trying to build a website for your business or personal brand? Then one of the first things you would need — is a domain name. Let’s talk about this “domain name” thingy, and how to get one in Nepal.

How to get a domain name for free in Nepal?

What is a domain name?

Before getting into the “how to” part, let’s briefly discuss the “what” and “why”. So, a domain name is a unique address to access a website that you can read. For instance, on our website i.e. www.gadgetbytenepal.com — the “gadgetbytenepal” is the domain name, while the “.com” is a domain extension.

If it were not for the domain name, we would have to remember numeric IP addresses instead. Imagine having to pull up a long chain of numbers every time you try to open Google. Yikes.

Why get a domain name?

So, domain names are vital for easier internet surfing, alright… But why? What other benefits do they even have? There are a few reasons for that too:

Branding

One of the major reasons why you would want a domain name is for branding. Every company needs a website to connect with its audience or to boost sales. For this, they generally go with the exact brand name for their domain name, which adds to the company’s identity.

Online Branding

Credibility

A proper and professional domain name offers credibility. For example: let’s say you want to build a tech website and decide to go by the name “rpq”. Now, when you put up a website having “rpqtech.com” sounds way more credible than just going by “rpq.com”.

I am just giving an example obviously, I recommend you name your venture something tech-related rather than just some random alphabets like “rpq”. If they happen to be your initials, then that’s a different story.

Likewise, the domain extension adds even more credibility to your website.

How to get a domain name for free?

You can get a domain name with our country code (“.np” for Nepal) for absolutely free! All you have to do is follow these steps:

  1. Go to register.com.np
  2. Enter the domain name you want
  3. Click “Search” to check the availability of the domain name
If the domain name is not available, try some variations
  4. Click on the “Register Now”
You will be redirected to the User Sign In/Create User page
  5. Fill in the necessary details and proceed accordingly
  6. Fill up the form and attach the requested documents
  7. Wait for the approval

Registering domain in Nepal

Things to consider

While getting a domain name in Nepal isn’t all that complex, you need to consider a few things during the process. They are:

  1. A company or an organisation can only get a domain name based on its name, product’s name, service’s name or brand name
  2. In the case of individuals, one can only register a domain name based on their legal names
  3. You can submit the required documents in .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif, and .svg file formats
  4. The submitted document cannot exceed 200KB in size

Documents Required

For Local Entities
  • Certificate of company/firm/partnership/organisation registration
For Foreign Entities
  • Certificate of branch office or liaison office registration
  • Certificate of affiliation with Social Welfare Council

(Either one can be submitted)

For Non-incorporated Entities involved in business in Nepal
  • PAN Registration Certificate

(Applicable to likes of Permanent Establishments or Non-incorporated Joint Venture Entities)

For Any Entities (Local or Foreign) with business interest in Nepal
  • Certificate of Trademark Registration in Nepal
  • Official filing receipt of trademark application issued by the Department of Industry.
In this case, the actual Trademark Registration Certificate needs to be submitted within three years of domain registration
For Individuals
  • Nepali Citizenship
  • Nepali Passport
  • Nepali Driving licence
  • Nepali Voter’s Card
  • Non-Resident Nepali (NRN) ID Card
  • Nepali Resident Visa (For foreign nationals)

(Either one of the documents mentioned above can be submitted)

How to get a domain name for free in Nepal: Conclusion

By following the above steps, submitting the supported documents, and keeping the aforementioned points in consideration, you can easily get a domain name in Nepal. That too for absolutely free!

Apple is reportedly developing new health feature for prediabetics

0

Apple is working on a health app aimed at helping prediabetic users manage their condition by maintaining stable blood glucose levels and reducing the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. In this article, we will discuss the latest updates on the new health features that will be available in their upcoming Health apps.

Apple Health App Overview

What’s in it?

One of the app’s most anticipated features is non-invasive blood glucose tracking. Apple is developing sensor technology to monitor blood glucose levels without needles or invasive methods, simplifying glucose management for users who need regular monitoring.

Apple Watch Series 10 - App

This app specifically targets individuals with prediabetes, aiming to aid in Type 2 diabetes prevention. By focusing on stable blood glucose management, Apple aligns with its health-centric approach to technology.

Employee Testing Completed

Apple recently completed internal testing of this non-invasive monitoring with its employees, gathering feedback and data to refine the feature. If the testing continues to yield positive results, Apple could release the feature as early as next year.

Additional Features for Health Management

The app will also include food logging and personalized meal recommendations. These tools are intended to help users make healthier food choices and gain insights into their eating habits, fostering proactive health management.

The AirPods Pro inspiration continues onto the charging case too. However, it has one distinct feature which prevents it from looking like a complete knock-off. There is a display with touch support. You can use this screen to access the various features these earbuds offer.

Audio and Features

The audio on the MyPower Mypod VR3 is driven by a 13mm driver on each bud. Meanwhile, these buds offer environmental noise cancellation during phone calls ensuring a clear calling experience. They are also equipped with ANC, clearing out ambient background noise.

These earbuds come with Bluetooth v5.3 and connect instantly to your device after pairing for the first time. The touch display on MyPower Mypod VR3’s charging case lets you control the buds by changing tracks, fiddling with volume, etc. It also offers other features like toggling noise cancellation, answering calls, “Lost & Find”, camera control, and so on.

MyPower Mypod VR3 Charging

Talking of the battery, these buds pack 45mAh cells while the charging case has a 360mAh unit. Combined, they can offer you one full day of music listening.
