Vivo Y28 4G review: Elegant design on a budget!

0

Hello everyone, you might know that Vivo is doing back-to-back launches in Nepal. And today I’m here with a review of its latest launch in the midrange segment: the Vivo Y28 4G. Well to give you a glimpse, it’s a typical Vivo phone with an eye-catching design but what about the other aspects? Let’s find that out in my Vivo Y28 4G review.

Before moving in, let’s have a look at the specifications of the Vivo Y28 4G.

Vivo Y28 4G Specifications:

Vivo Y28 4G Review

It’s a beautiful design

  • Glass Front, Plastic Back
  • Plastic Middle Frame

I would be lying If I said the design is not appealing on a Vivo phone. The Y28 stands no exception and it boasts an eye-catching look without a doubt. I mean, if you were someone whose preference is a gorgeous design, you would definitely grab this phone out of the bunch. I have the Gleaming Orange variant while you can also opt for an Agate Green shade.

Talking of the build, there is a plastic frame in between, that has a metallic gloss finish, matching the color. You get an IP64 rating here for added dust resistance with the “6” while the “4” denotes a basic splash resistance.

But it’s an LCD panel

  • 6.72-inches IPS LCD, 90Hz refresh rate
  • 20 x 1612 pixels, 1000 nits (HBM)

I understand there is no compromise on the design front but the display side is not that appealing. We all know, how AMOLED panels have become quite a norm in this segment with every other brand. But Vivo has decided to stick with an IPS LCD panel, that too at 90Hz. So, I definitely missed the 120Hz vibe here.

Vivo Y28 4G Video Playback

Speaking of the actual display quality, it is just decent, not that sharp to be precise, as it’s got an HD+ resolution only. You still can enjoy movies and reels as you’ll become used to with this resolution. And to contemplate that, you get a stereo speaker setup, which sounds sharp at full volume. So a moderate level sounds just fine! Meanwhile, the sunlight readability is pretty good with 1000 nits of HBM while the typical brightness stays at 750 nits. Either way, it’s good to go for a sunny day.

Performance

  • Mediatek Helio G85 4G SoC (12nm)
  • 8GB RAM, 128/256GB eMMC 5.1
  • FuntouchOS 14 based on Android 14

Getting to the performance side of things, the Vivo Y28 4G can only cater well to those basic users. You get a Helio G85 SoC here which is surely not the best in this segment. The recently launched Realme 12X provides a Dimensity 6100+ chip, which is far better. During my usage period, I could see the phone getting slow and lagging once in a while. I know this is common in this price range but the Helio G85 just doesn’t fit right for a 25K phone. So, this phone is just for mere social media usage, multimedia, and light gaming. You can play PUBG casually here at up to 40fps but it will dip down to 32fps occasionally. In short, the Y28 is only meant for basic gaming.

Vivo Y28 4G Gaming

Camera

  • Dual-camera setup at the back
  • 50MP main, 2MP depth
  • 8MP selfie camera

Vivo Y28 4G Camera Module

The phone sports a dual camera setup, 50MP + 2MP but I would rule out the second lens as it is practically useless. So, as a Vivo phone, I expected it to have good-for-the-buck camera quality. And it performed just decent.

Daylight

The daylighting images have a respectable amount of detail and nice colors. But I still believe, it can get better.

Portraits

Moving to the portraits, the results are quite on the average side. You can see highlights getting blown up in the background while for the edge detection, I wouldn’t complain much. This is how midrange phones tend to mess up edge detection.

Selfies

Flipping to the selfies, you get good-looking outputs with a charm. Sometimes, the skin tone can get pinkish but I bet, most of the selfies takers out there wouldn’t complain about the Y28.

Lowlight

When the sun goes down, the dedicated “Night Mode” comes into play, providing sharp outputs with a bit more details. Without turning it on, the images are on the below-average side.

Videos

Talking of the videos, it can only do 1080p 30fps videos that too with no EIS stabilization. It’s below average to put it in simple words.

Battery and Charging

  • 6000mAh battery
  • 44W fast charging (included in the box)

The Vivo Y28 4G houses a 6000mAh cell and you can rely on it for two days easily on moderate usage. On top of that, the 44W fast charger can top it off from 0 to 100% in 1 hour and 40 minutes approximately. Which doesn’t sound the fastest but it’s a big battery, so, I let that slide in.

Vivo Y28 4G Charging

Plus, Vivo claims an impressive 80% battery health even after using it for 4 years (1600 charge cycles).

Vivo Y28 4G Review: Conclusion

The Vivo Y28 ticks the boxes for looks and design without a doubt. It’s got all for someone who’s all about going for a good-looking phone. But the phone has several bummers. Vivo’s choice of continuing the Helio G85 on a 25K phone is not justifiable, and you only get a 90Hz LCD panel here which is not that great. The camera experience is also pretty basic while the selfies are on a tat bit better side. If you peek at the competition, this segment has phones like Redmi Note 13 and Galaxy A15 5G with AMOLED panels and better performance.

Vivo Y28 4G Casual

I really believe Vivo should have made the performance game strong here or at least provided an AMOLED panel. It’s not bad or anything and can cater well to a basic user but the phone surely is not the best package you can get at 25K rupees. So, the only good thing besides design is the 6000mAh battery.

Vivo Y28 4G Review: Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Elegant design with IP64 rating
  • 6000mAh battery with 44W charging
  • Good Selfies

Cons

  • Average performance
  • HD+ LCD panel
  • No stabilization in the videos

CMF Watch Pro 2 arrives in Nepal with interchangeable bezels!

Nothing’s more affordable sub-brand launched its second generation of accessories including a new smartwatch. It succeeds the CMF Watch Pro and comes with quite a few changes. Also, CMF Watch Pro 2 is the first of its kind to launch in Nepal, which we will discuss further in this article along with its detailed specifications, price, and other aspects.

CMF Watch Pro 2 Overview

Design

While the first iteration of the CMF Watch Pro came in an Apple Watch-like outlook, this time around the company has gone with a circular dial. But that’s not all… it has a trick up its sleeve — it comes with interchangeable bezels! It is not something new though, as the Xiaomi Watch S3 that launched a few months back also offers interchangeable bezels. However, CMF Watch Pro 2 brings this feature at a much more affordable price point and is definitely the first of its kind to be available in Nepal.

CMF Watch Pro 2 Design

The watch body is made of aluminium alloy while the strap can either be leather or liquid silicone. It is available in four colours altogether wherein the Blue and Orange options get leather straps. Meanwhile, the two shades of grey make do with the latter option. Likewise, the interchangeable bezels are also available in two color options and two types of edge finish i.e. flat and curved. Apart from that, the CMF Watch Pro 2 boasts IP68 water resistance and comes with a functional crown on the right for navigation.

Display and Features

On the front, you are looking at an AMOLED screen with a 1.32-inch circumference. This display supports touch controls and comes with 466 pixels resolution stretching all across. It also has a pixel density of 353 PPI and achieves a peak brightness of 620 nits. Additionally, the CMF Watch Pro 2 offers a refresh rate of 60 FPS and supports auto-brightness adjustment.

CMF Watch Pro 2 Wrist Gesture

While on the subject of display, this watch offers a plethora of watch faces. This includes over 100 cloud-based signature watch faces including both interactive as well as static options. You can also use the photo album as the watch face on the CMF Watch Pro 2. This watch is equipped with Bluetooth v5.3, and coupled with the built-in speaker and microphone, offers a calling feature through the watch. When doing so, it taps into its AI noise reduction technology and provides a clearer calling experience. One of its unique features is its Gesture Control which allows you to perform a customised function simply by rotating or shaking your wrist.

Fitness Tracking and Battery

The CMF Watch Pro 2 obviously comes with a bunch of health and fitness tracking features. This includes heart rate tracking, sleep tracking, activity tracking with over 120 sports modes (auto recognises five of them), blood oxygen saturation reading, sedentary and water reminders, menstrual cycle tracking, and so on. It also offers 3D animation demonstrations for warm-up exercises. Furthermore, this watch packs a five-way navigation system for more accurate data tracking. In the meantime, you can access all this data and customisation through the CMF Watch app available on both smartphone platforms.

CMF Watch Pro 2 App Data

Lastly, the CMF Watch Pro 2 packs a 305 mAh battery that typically lasts you about 11 days. In case of heavy-use scenarios, it is good to go for 9 days straight and even if you leave the GPS on continuously, it will still last you over 24 hours. On the other end of the spectrum, it will go on for over one and a half months when you turn on the power-saving mode. Talking of charging, it takes just 100 minutes to fill up through the charging line that comes in the box.

Apple Intelligence: Free features now, subscription model later

0

In a very short time, AI has secured a good position in the tech market. After Google and Samsung, Apple, the California-based tech giant, is here with its own AI (Apple Intelligence). Let’s know more.

Features of Apple Intelligence (AI)

Apple Intelligence will feature AI-powered Siri, integrated writing tools, and the creative Image Playground for generating images. Initially, these features will be available for free on compatible devices. However, a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests that Apple might shift to a subscription model in the future. The potential introduction of a premium tier named “Apple Intelligence+,” would offer exclusive AI features for a monthly fee, like other Apple services like iCloud and Apple Music.

This is one of the strategies of Apple to focus on and improve the software side of things between slowing hardware sales. The contributing factors for the idea include slower device upgrade cycles, less noticeable hardware innovations, and increased device durability. Apple has collaborated with OpenAI for this change that involves revenue-sharing from AI subscription services. This shows its commitment to AI for future revenue growth. Additionally, the Private Cloud Compute feature will extend AI ability to its older devices using Apple’s cloud servers.

Know about the Apple Intelligence in depth here:

Are you ready for AI — Apple Intelligence? Here’s everything you need to know

The initial display of Apple Intelligence is expected on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Industry observers are looking forward to advancing AI-driven development that could change how users interact with their devices.

Is the hype worth it?

Apple integrating Apple Intelligence can be good news for the tech industry alike. We might see more companies adopting AI into their products and services for an enriched user experience. However, the technique of offering cost-free features initially and eventually shifting to a subscription-based model might distance users who can only afford free service. Additionally, there’s the risk that the focus on software and revenue increment might overshadow the development of new hardware innovations, which could disappoint users looking for the next big breakthrough in Apple’s product lineup.

CMF Buds Pro 2 with the industry’s first customisable Smart Dial launched in Nepal

CMF just launched a brand new earbuds — Buds Pro 2! The naming of the latest Nothing sub-brand offering suggests that it is the successor to the Buds Pro, however, it closely resembles the regular Buds instead. Regardless, let’s discuss the latest CMF Buds Pro 2 further in this article, including its price in Nepal.

CMF Buds Pro 2 Overview

Design and Audio

As I mentioned, the overall design of the latest CMF Buds Pro 2 is more in line with the vanilla Buds than the previous Pro model. Given that, the earbuds come in an in-ear fit with an IP55 rating. On the other hand, the charging case does not have any sort of dust or water resistance. The charging case of the latest Pro model carries over the dial from the regular Buds, but it takes it up a notch. Previously, it was merely an aesthetic choice. This time around, it functions are a button to control the earbuds’ feature.

CMF Buds Pro 2 ANC

These earbuds rely on a combination of an 11mm bass driver, a 6mm micro-planar tweeter, an N52 magnet, and a copper voice coil to deliver all kinds of sound, including the Spatial Audio Effect. The tuning on these things is done by Nothing in collaboration with Dirac Opteo. Additionally, they are equipped with three microphones on each side to offer a clearer calling experience. The CMF Buds Pro 2 is capable of Hybrid ANC of up to 50dB, and Wind Noise Reduction with its unique wind-flow structure as well.

  • Meanwhile, also check out all the updated prices and specs of CMF products here

Features

Apart from all the noise-cancelling and reducing stuff, these buds also offer other handy-dandy features. The highlighting one of all is its first-in-the-industry Smart Dial, which I touched on when talking about its design. This dial can be rotated as well as pressed, and users can customise these actions to perform certain tasks such as volume adjustments, ANC control, Voice Assistant access, and such through the Nothing X app.

CMF Buds Pro 2 App

Furthermore, users can enjoy five preset EQ modes or fiddle around to fine-tune the sound of these buds as per their liking in the app as well. Another interesting feature of the CMF Buds Pro 2 is ChatGPT integration. This allows you to tap into the AI model through voice commands. Other than that, these buds come with fast pairing, Ear Fit Test, In-ear detection, and Low Lag Mode with latency as low as 120ms with Nothing and CMF phones.

Battery

In terms of battery, you are getting 60 mAh cells on either bud and a larger 460 mAh pack in the charging case. With this, these earbuds can offer you up to 43 hours of combined playback. Similarly, the company says they offer 11 hours of independent playback. However, if you want to enjoy the CMF Buds Pro 2 to its fullest with LDAC and ANC turned on, the battery life drops to just over four hours on the buds. Even with the case, you will get 16 and a half hours of usage.

When you do run out of charge, these earbuds can fully juice up in just 70 minutes. Likewise, you can get up to three hours from the buds by plugging it in for a mere 10 minutes.

  • Design: In-ear with IP55 rating

10 billion passwords leaked through “RockYou2024” database!

0

Cybercrime is a growing threat, with increasing attacks targeting individuals and organizations worldwide. One of the most concerning aspects is the theft and trade of passwords. Security researchers recently reported that an infamous crime marketplace has uploaded the world’s largest collection of stolen passwords labelled ‘RockYou2024’.

World’s Largest Password Leak

A hacker known as ‘ObamaCare’ posted a database containing nearly 10 billion unique passwords, collected from numerous data breaches and hacks over the years. This alarming news, therefore, highlights the increasing risks and the need for strong cybersecurity measures. Security researchers from Cybernews have uncovered the RockYou2024 password database. This happens to be the largest collection of stolen and leaked credentials ever seen on the BreachForums criminal underground forum. This database contains 9,948,575,739 unique passwords in plain text format.

Impact of the RockYou2024 Leak

RockYou2024 is a database that builds upon the previous RockYou2021 set. Approximately, 1.5 billion new passwords from 2021 to 2024 were added to the previous 8.4 billion. What’s worse is all the passwords are real-world passwords used by individuals and organizations worldwide. This increases the risk of credential stuffing attacks, where stolen credentials from one service are used on another unrelated service. Cyberattacks like this could lead to an overflow of data breaches, financial frauds, and identity thefts.

What You Can Do?

The biggest password leak of the RockYou2024 increases the risk of credential-stuffing attacks. People often use the same password for a lot of websites so when one gets compromised, they are at risk of getting hacked everywhere else too. You might be the next target or maybe you are a victim already and you have no idea about it yet! To know if you have been data breached check out sites like Have I Been Pwned which check your email against their databases of leaks.

Furthermore, organizations and individuals should use security measures like multi-factor authentication (MFA) for better safety.

Realme 12x 5G now available in Nepal with Dimensity 6100+ and 50MP cameras

Realme launched a successor to the Realme 11x — which landed a spot on our list of best smartphones priced under NPR 30,000 as well. This time around the company has given the phone a major upgrade in the memory and storage department and is now finally launched in Nepal. Let’s discuss more about the Realme 12x 5G including its official price in Nepal, shall we?

Realme 12x 5G Overview

Design and Display

Realme 12x 5G keeps the majority of design aspects similar to its predecessor. Except for the shift of the camera island on the back to the center, which puts it more in line with its other members of the Realme 12 series. Moreover, it boasts IP54 water and ingress protection while maintaining a slim profile of 7.89mm. This phone ships in two finishes: Twilight Purple and Woodland Green.

Performance

Moving on to the performance side of things, the latest Realme offering does not offer any upgrade in terms of processor. Meaning, that it sticks with the same MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ chipset. This silicon should provide you with a smooth enough experience for day-to-day usage and light gaming here and there.

MediaTek Dimensity 6100 Plus

Even though you don’t get an upgrade in the processor, you do get a major bump in memory as well as storage. It comes in an 8/128GB trim in Nepal. In addition, you can virtually double the memory while also expanding the storage with a MicroSD card of up to 2TB on the Realme 12x. Furthermore, this phone boots on the Realme UI 5.0 based on Android 14.

Camera and the rest

In terms of camera, the Realme 12x 5G comes with a primary 50MP shooter — which is a dip from the 64MP you would get on a last-gen phone. However, we all know that the megapixels of the camera do not solely dictate the image quality.

Other than that, there’s a 2MP black & white (B&W) camera as well. Meanwhile, you once again get an 8MP camera on the front. Powering the smartphone is a 5,000 mAh cell that can juiced up with a 45W charger.
