Poco F6 Review

Design and Build

Alright, first of all, I will get done with the one thing that’s not so good about this phone- the design. It is very basic and this is what most of 2024’s phones look like. Plastic back and plastic frames! It’s well built and lightweight though, the hands-on feel is not bad, but it doesn’t feel like you are holding a premium phone.

Redeeming factors here are the GGV in the display and IP64 rating, but other than that, I think the design is pretty boring.

Display

Display is where the real gem is- I have had the best time interacting with this screen, 6.7 inch AMOLED screen, 12-bit display, 1920 Hz PWM dimming, 100% DCI P3 color coverage, 2400 nits peak brightness, the bezels are trimmed down, it’s an almost flagship like display.

Poco F6 Usage

Almost… because, this is an LTPS screen, not LTPO, so its refresh rate cannot go as low as 1 or 10 Hz ..the max I have recorded is 30Hz. During the briefing, Poco also said that it can reach 45 and 90 Hz while you do certain things, in my tests, I was able to get the display switch between 30, 60, and 120Hz. Not complaining though, just letting you guys know!

Good touch response and brightness

A few of the things I really appreciate here are, the touch response of this display is good, especially while gaming, number 2, its brightness is sufficient in sunny outdoor conditions as well, and it can go up to 1200 nits in HIgh brightness mode, but its display can go really dim as well. So, when I am using the phone till 1 am, my eyes are slightly less affected.

A super solid performer

Anyway, the best thing about this phone is– –performance—Finally, I feel like the Poco F1 legacy is back, we have an SD 8 series chipset here, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 along with DDR5X RAM and fast UFS 4.0 storage.

Poco F6 Gaming

The 8s Gen 3 is almost as good as the 8 Gen 2, the only thing that the 8 Gen 2 does better is GPU performance because it uses a better GPU, but the CPU architecture is actually better on the 8s Gen 3.

Plus it also comes with on-device AI capabilities and it supports a few AI models as well. This phone does not necessarily support all the AI features, the chipset does support it, so that’s that, just letting you guys know.

Gaming and Cooling

Real-life performance is solid! Games run smoothly, PUBG runs smoothly at around 88 fps with great stability..and I have also just received support for 120fps.

Likewise, Genshin Impact runs at 58 fps in high settings with great stability as well. And the temperature numbers are really favorable too. I mean, I recorded a max of 44 degrees while playing Genshin Impact for 30 minutes, but the cooling solution here is effective, I noticed that heat dissipated rather quickly.

Poco F6 Gaming Casual

The reason is- that Poco has included a large vapor chamber cooling system here, which they like to call, Ice loop cooling, and according to them, this one is 3X more effective than traditional VCs. I am not sure about the 3X parts, but I never felt the phone getting uncomfortably hot, so I will give good points to it!

I also tried shooting a 30-minute video in 4k 60 fps to check how much the phone will heat and, here are the numbers, pretty impressive right? (30 minutes video recording 4k 60 fps—front temperature: 45, back temperature 43), it didn’t throttle and shut down, so that’s nice.

HyperOS is also smooth

Anyway, Poco has improved a lot on the software side as well, Android 14- HyperOS out of the box- 3 years of OS and 4 years of quarterly security updates.

HyperOS

I appreciate that HyperOS is not a very demanding skin, so you don’t have to deal with unnecessarily heavy animations and stuff. Plus, it’s also quite optimized. I tried finding flaws like I dug really deep, but I actually couldn’t find ads or things like that. I did notice that the system music app runs a few ads, but other than that,  in the UI, there are no unnecessary recommendations, so, the experience is pretty much clean.

There are a ton of pre-installed apps though, but most of them can be uninstalled, so it isn’t a big issue!

Speakers and Haptics

Even the overall experience has been good. The speakers here are really nice and loud and balanced from both the units on the top as well as the bottom. As expected, you don’t get a lot of bass, but they are nice, so no complaints.

Poco F6 Haptics

However, I am not a fan of haptics..they are not the worst, in fact, it’s better than something like the Galaxy A35 or the Moto Edge 50 Pro. Poco says they have used an X-axis vibration motor, but it’s not very impactful. Just a day ago, I published the review of Realme GT 6T and it has much better feedback. I do appreciate that haptics is implemented in UI elements too.

Battery Life

Battery life is good. It is a typical 5000 mAh cell which gave me a full day of usage on moderate to heavy use.

Poco F6 Charging

Charging is fast too- the phone takes around 40 minutes to fully juice up, 30% in 8 minutes, 50% in 17 minutes, and 100% in 45 minutes with the inbox 120-watt charger, which also supports PD charging, so you can charge your laptop, gaming console, and all with it too.

Cameras

Poco learned its lesson from last year, this time getting rid of the OmniVision sensor and including a Sony sensor instead, not just in the primary lens, but the ultra-wide lens as well. And after clicking a ton of pics, the quality of the cameras has improved, I mean Poco F5’s cameras were..for the lack of a better word, kind of garbage.

Now, don’t be mistaken, the cameras here are definitely better than the F5, but not extraordinary for the price. You will notice good details and dynamic range but I think Poco could still work a little on color processing. Warm images, sometimes overbearingly warm primary images.

I also found that the focus area here is quite narrow while shooting close-up shots and the colors are not the most accurate too. Still for general usage, the images are not bad, I did get some good shots like this one and this one too, so inappropriate lighting, you can get some good images from it, no doubts.

Ultra-wide

Ultra-wide images are just okay though in terms of details, but I like the colors on UW images more than primary ones.

I have also been comparing its cameras with Realme GT 6T and, Realme’s output is a little better than Poco’s, I will make a separate comparison video.

Nighttime

During the nighttime, the photos are not bad either, warmth is there, but it does not spoil the aesthetics, so no issues. I only wish the camera was able to maintain better sharpness though, here is a side-by-side comparison of nighttime images from Realme and Poco and evidently, realme is doing a better job.

Portraits

Portraits from the phone are decent most of the time, the subject’s face is smoothened and sometimes there is a yellow tint on the skin, but it’s not entirely bad so I won’t complain. I wish there was a 2x portrait option, that was a major miss!

Selfies

Anyway, I am happy with the selfies, good amount of smoothening, but end result is good, the exposure management is nice and the highlights are preserved well.

Videography

The videography side has improved and you get a 4K 60 fps option too. The phone can shoot smooth videos and nice details. It doesn’t let you switch between the cameras, but overall good videos, not just during the daytime, but at night time too. No noise or grains whatsoever! On the selfie video side, there is no 4k option, only 1080p 60 fps here. I really feel, Poco should have given that option too.

Poco F6 Review: Conclusion

As with all the Poco phones, the Poco F6 is a great device for performance-centric users, and even for general usage for someone who wants a fast phone with a good display, speakers, and everything. It is a good upgrade to the Poco F5 in almost all aspects, the display, the cameras, charging, software, performance, everything.

That being said I wish the cameras were a little better in terms of color processing though and also, the design, as I said, very basic! If you can live up to those shortcomings, this is a competitive device, up for my recommendation, easily. And that’s all for my Poco F6 review.

Poco F6 Review: Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Great performance from Snapdragon 8s Gen 3
  • Excellent display

POCO F6 Pro launced with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Light Fusion 800 sensor

Alongside the POCO F6, the brand also unveiled its Pro sibling in an event today. While the vanilla F6 houses the new Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, the F6 Pro is powered by a last-gen flagship SD 8 Gen 2 SoC. In this piece, let’s take a look at the POCO F6 Pro, its features, full specifications, expected price in Nepal, and availability information.

    POCO F6 Pro Overview

    Performance and Software

Like always, raw horsepower is one of the headlining features of the new POCO smartphone. The F6 Pro is running Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 based on TSMC’s 4nm process. It’s the star from 2023 with a prime Cortex X3 core running at 3.2 GHz and an Adreno 740 GPU.

Complementing the powerful chipset, there’s up to 16GB of super-fast LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.0 memory. POCO has advertised the “Liquid Cool 4.0” tech inside the F6 Pro that claims to be up to 3x more effective than a traditional vapor chamber. We’ll be sure to test that in our upcoming review of the product, but for now, the POCO F6 Pro sounds pretty promising for power users like gaming enthusiasts.

    Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

The smartphone boots on HyperOS based on Android 14.

    Design and Display

The POCO F6 Pro is simply a Redmi K70 rebrand so the design language is pretty much the same. There’s a rectangular island at the back housing three cameras while the selfie cam is present in the hole-punch cutout on the front. Unlike the regular F6, the pro version ships with a glass back and metal frame giving it a more premium feel and heft.

    Poco F6 Pro Display

On the front, the phone features a 6.67-inch WQHD+ screen with an AMOLED panel. It can refresh up to 120Hz with a touch sampling rate of 2160Hz and high 3840Hz PWM Dimming. Since it’s a 12-bit panel, there are over 68 billion colors and it covers the wider P3 gamut. Finally, the peak brightness is also impressive at 4000 nits while the entire screen can go up to 1200 nits in the high brightness mode.

    Camera and the Rest

In the optics department, the POCO F6 Pro comes with three cameras on the back. The primary shooter here is a 50MP Omnivision Light Fusion 800 sensor with OIS. Auxiliary lenses include an 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro camera. Similarly, you get a 16MP selfie cam on the front.

    Poco F6 Pro Cameras

The POCO F6 Pro draws its power from a 5,000 mAh battery with support for 120W HyperCharge. Other features of the phone include support for Sub 6 GHz 5G, WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC. The X linear vibration motor ensures crisp feedback, while features like the IR blaster are thoughtful quality-of-life additions.

    • Display: 6.67” OLED Panel, 120Hz refresh rate, 2160Hz touch, 3840Hz PWM Dimming, 4000 nits peak brightness

Realme GT 6T review: The GT magic is back!

    0

The Realme GT series is FINALLY back after 2 years of absence! If you remember, I really liked the Realme GT Neo 2, later was also re-launched as GT Neo 3T, it was a good performance-centric phone back then. And the legacy now continues with the Realme GT 6T. The phone costs INR 30,999 (NPR 49,599) in India but after bank and exchange offers, the base 8/128GB variant of this phone costs Rs. 24,999 in India which converts to NPR 39,999. And for that price, it has got a lot of good features to talk about – like a LTPO display with GG V2 protection, a powerful SD 7+ Gen 3 processor, a big 5500mAh battery, and a 50MP SONY LYT 600 camera. So, how’s the phone? Let’s find that out in our Realme GT 6T review.

But as always, let’s take a peek at the specifications first.

    Realme GT 6T Specifications:

    • Display: 6.78″ BOE 8T LTPO AMOLED panel, 120Hz refresh rate
    • Resolution: 1.5K resolution
    • Memory: Up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM, up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage
    • Chipset: Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3
    • Software & UI: Android 14 with Realme UI 5.0 on top
    • Rear Camera:
      • 50 MP main camera Sony IMX882 sensor, OIS
      • 8MP IMX355 112° ultra-wide camera
    • Front Camera:
      • 32MP front-facing camera with Sony IMX615 sensor
    • Battery: 5,500mAh with 100W SuperVOOC charging
    • Color Options: Fluid Silver, Razor Green

    Realme GT 6T Review

    Design

Let’s get started with the design. And it’s nothing extraordinary as you can see. You get a pretty big camera module with a dual-tone finish. Actually, it looks similar to the Poco F6.
Plus, the back as well as the frames is Plastic here and Catches a lot of fingerprints and smudges, which is something I didn’t like. Maybe they could have given an eco-leather back finish like with the Realme 12 series.

But the overall heft is surprisingly good. And If I have to compare it against the Poco F6, this one feels more premium in the hands. Plus, the back and the display are also curved, so it provides a nice grip too. Upfront too, Realme GT 6T has GG Victus 2 protection. I think it’s the most affordable phone to have such robust display protection.

    Display

The Realme GT 6T also has the best display quality you can find on a midrange phone! This display is very identical to the OnePlus 12R. 6.78-inch LTPO panel, 12-bit color depth, it can go up to 1600 nits in HBM and a whopping 6000 nits peak HDR brightness.
The color calibration out of the box is fantastic. So, you will enjoy watching the video content here.

    Realme GT 6T Video Playback

As of now, Netflix doesn’t support HDR playback, but it should get updated soon. There is HDR support on YouTube though. You also get High-frequency 2160Hz PWM dimming, so you shouldn’t be seeing flicker at low brightness settings. Plus, it also has TÜV Certification to minimize harmful blue light emissions and flicker. The touch response is also quite good here. So Whether I am scrolling through the web pages or playing games on it, it feels very responsive.

    Refresh Rate

Inside the display settings, you can choose 3 refresh rate modes, and while using it in auto-select, the refresh rate is quite optimized. Navigating through the UI is at 120Hz, watching videos switches to 60Hz, and apps like Chrome, Instagram, etc run at 90Hz.
However, I didn’t see any apps going as low as 1Hz as Realme claimed in their review guidelines. Anyway, if you don’t want apps to run at just 90Hz, you can change it to a High refresh rate and even modify it to run certain apps as needed.

    Realme GT 6T Casual 2

Another interesting feature I found here is the AI Eye Comfort which detects eye fatigue with AI and adjusts the color temperature. Likewise, Realme has done a nice job by including flagship-grade X-axis haptics. It’s as good as the OnePlus 12 and 12R. You can even change the intensity of the haptics as you like and get feedback while navigating in the multitasking bar. Super Neat quality of life improvement!

    Speakers

Another thing to love here is the speakers. It’s definitely much better than a typical midrange phone. It’s loud, has some base, and a nice treble too.

    Software

Realme has also upped its software game with the GT6T. It’s currently on Android 14 and the company has promised 3 years of OS and 4 years of quarterly security patches. Plus, there is less bloatware this time, less than the Poco F6. And most of them can be either disabled or uninstalled.

    Realme GT 6T UI

    Performance

As for the performance, you get the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 chipset, which has a similar CPU architecture to the SD 8s Gen 3 that we get on the Poco F6. But, the GPU on the 7Plus Gen 3 here is slightly less powerful than the 8s Gen 3 and you get a slightly slower X63 modem here.

    Realme GT 6T Benchmarks

Putting technicality aside, the 7+ Gen 3 is a very very good chipset. Everything here is as fast as some of the flagship phones. Superb multitasking. Super Fast App opening. No signs of jitters. Everything! The difference is now getting so close that you don’t have to spend $1000 or over a lakh to get a flagship-grade performance and this phone and also the Poco F6 are a prime example.

By the way, the memory type here is LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. Realme also claims that they have included a pretty big 10000mm² Stainless Steel Vapor Chamber, but on my regular usage, it was getting slightly warmer, especially when I was on data.

    Gaming

Now for gaming, in PUBG mobile, I am getting a stable 60 fps, while the temperature didn’t exceed 40 degrees. Decent! Even, in Genshin Impact, in medium graphics and 60fps setting, the average fps I am getting was 59fps, and there is no dip in the fps as you can see from the chart. But since I am playing it on the GT mode that prioritizes maximum performance, the temperature is slightly higher.

    Realme GT 6T Gaming

However, what I found out is, that unlike Poco F6, you cannot enjoy any of the games in high 90 fps or 120fps – not even the low-end games like Mobile Legends. That’s actually something common on all realme phones.

    Realme GT 6T Gaming Test

But overall, this is a fast phone you can enjoy games with good stability in most games. Although, I have to say you will get slightly better stability, and smoothness with IQOO Neo 9 Pro or the Poco F6.

    Battery

Another aspect that I really like about the GT 6T is its battery endurance. Just like the latest OnePlus phones, it comes with two 2750mAh cells. A total of 5500mAh and I am easily getting like 6 to 7 hours of SOT on heavy usage. So, it will easily last you for a full day without a beat. And with the 120W wired charger, it can take the phone from 0 to 60% in just 15 minutes and 100% in half an hour.

    Camera

Ok so far everything I have talked about the Realme GT 6T is near A+. Be it the robust build, display, speakers, or the performance. But how’s the camera? I think I would give it a 7 out of 10. It’s got a 50 MP primary camera with OIS and an 8MP ultra-wide sensor.

    Realme GT 6T Camera

Camera performance is I would say “satisfactory’’. Reviewing Poco F6 side by side, I can instantly say that realme is better, but I will talk about it in detail in my full comparison.

    Daylight

For now, if you look at the samples I took from Realme GT 6T, it has a nice sharpness in photos, and slightly oversaturated output, but looks good in certain conditions. Dynamic range is well maintained too.

Sometimes I found whites to be overbearing, the camera just overprocesses the images and during those times, the images come off subpar, but other than that, I have been pretty satisfied with the output.

    Portraits

I especially like the portraits, it has a nice skin tone and color reproduction, and you also get a 2x option which makes the subject focus better, but at the cost of details! Overall, you can get nice portraits from the phone.

    Ultrawide

The 8MP Ultra wide images have average details, but the color reproduction is close to the primary images, so it is not that bad.

    Selfies

Selfies have good colors and all, smoothened, but nice no complaints!

    Nighttime

Nighttime performance in photos is outstanding. I never felt the need to turn on night mode, normal images have great exposure, details, etc. However, as expected, Ultra-wide nighttime images struggle to maintain proper details and lights!

    Videos

Now, videos from the back camera were something I expected the GT6T to do well. But both the 4K 30 and 60fps don’t have the best of stabilisation. You get slight jitters and wobbles if I am taking the videos while vlogging or panning, and the video quality and the sharpness aren’t exactly great. And the same with the Ultra-wide camera. It can record only in 1080P 30fps and does not have good details and most importantly dynamic range.

    Selfie Video

So, overall, the Realme GT 6T. It’s an excellent effort from the company to dominate the midrange segment. And definitely a step up from the Realme 12 Pro and 12 Pro+, which I think was a pretty average offering.

    Realme GT 6T Review: Conclusion

I think this phone truly does make the midrange segment interesting again! I think, with this phone, you are getting as good of an experience as the OnePlus 12R at a much much cheaper price! I like to call it as a OnePlus 12R Lite.

    Realme GT 6T Casual

Plus, what I like about Realme phones is they do push a few updates to improve the cameras. The same thing happened with the Realme 12 Pro where after 2 or 3 updates, the cameras performed better. So, hopefully, Realme optimizes the cameras by a bit. But still, this is a great phone for the price.

Realme GT 6T Review: Pros and Cons

    Pros

    • Flagship level performance
    • Best display in class
    • Good primary camera
    • Superb speakers

    Cons

    • Poor stabilization on videos
    • Games are capped at 60fps

Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 9 16IRX9 (2024) launched in Nepal!

Lenovo refreshed its gaming laptop lineup back in January where we got to see a new iteration of the Legion Pro 5i as well. The machine has finally its way here, so let’s take a quick look at the 2024 edition of the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i (Gen 9), its features, full specifications, price in Nepal, and availability details.

Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 9 16IRX9 Overview:

    Design and Display

The new Legion Pro 5 is more of a subtle refresh than a meaningful upgrade both in the looks and performance department. You get a solid gaming laptop with a metal build that is portable and stylish enough to use during classes or meetings. It weighs around 2500 grams with ports on the sides and back alongside subtle Legion / Lenovo brandings on the lid.

Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 9 design

Just like the more expensive Legion Pro 7i (2024), the Pro 5 can be purchased with a high-res WQXGA screen running at 240Hz. Alongside Dolby Vision and DisplayHDR 400 support, you also get gorgeous P3 colors on the higher-end configuration. The 16-inch IPS screen is similar to the one on its predecessor with up to 500 nits of brightness and anti-glare coating.

    Performance and Memory

Legion Pro 5i Gen 9 includes recent Raptor Lake refresh HX series Intel Core processors. Now, you can get the Legion Pro 5i (2024) with Core i5-14500HX, Core i7-14650HX, Core i7-14700HX, and the flagship Core i9-14900HX. GPU options and configuration remain the same as last year offering up to an NVIDIA RTX 4070 with 8GB of VRAM, and a 140W TGP.  You can use ‘Advanced Optimus’ to switch to the integrated Iris Xe graphics to save on battery during everyday use.

Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 9 fans

There are dual intake fans that pull air from the bottom and exhaust out the sides and the back. On the memory end, the Legion Pro can be equipped with up to 32GB of 3200MHz-DDR5 RAM and 2 terabytes of SSD storage. The M.2 2280 slot is pre-occupied with the default drive, but you can add your own M.2 2242 card to expand if necessary.

    Ports and Battery

In the tank, we get to see an 80Wh Lithium polymer battery with fast charging speeds. If you use the provided 300W slim tip adapter, you can take your Legion Pro 5i from 0 to 40% in just 10 minutes or get an 80% charge (0-80%) in half an hour. Battery life, as per our experience with Legion Pro laptops, is likely to be workable but not amazing. It likely edges out most gaming laptops that house smaller 50 or 60Wh cells, but that still means only 4-5 hours of actual work that you can pull off unplugged.

Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 9 ports

As for ports and connectivity,  you get a plethora of options with a total of four Type-A ports,  two Type-C ports, an Ethernet port, and an audio combo jack. For wireless connectivity, there’s a replaceable WiFi 6E card alongside Bluetooth 5.2.

    Should you buy it?

The Legion Pro lineup of gaming laptops is for those willing to spend a little extra for a premium gaming experience. If you can afford the ask, it is most often worth it to go for the latest Legion Pro 5. Furthermore, the latest Core i7 14650HX, RTX 4060 is available for below 2.3 lakh which is a very good deal. Hence, there are no glaring flaws with the Legion Pro 5i Gen 9 and you can purchase it with

That being said, we are pretty sure that the new iteration will start above NPR 250,000 for the i7/4060 combo which might be the best value if you look at current deals for the 2023 model. Right now, you can get your hands on a VERY similar machine with a slightly weaker CPU (13th gen HX or Ryzen 7000 HX) and the same GPU in the NPR 200,000-240,000 range. As such, we would suggest most folks to consider those alternatives first. But if you can afford it and want the latest and greatest, the Legion Pro Pi Gen 9 will NOT disappoint you in most regards.
