Honor’s latest entry into the sub-25 thousand rupee bracket brings a couple of eye-catching specs for its price. The Honor X7b features an appealing design, a 108MP main camera, plenty of memory, and a large 6 Ampere battery. Being around 8.2 mm thick and weighing around 200 grams, the Honor X7B is a big phone. As such, it boasts a suitable 6.8-inch TFT LCD with a 90Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 850 nits. The front bezels are reasonably thin with a screen-to-body ratio of 87.3%.

Vivo X Fold 3 unveiled as the lightest foldable ever alongside the Pro variant!

Vivo recently lifted the curtains on its 3rd generation of foldables with a vanilla X Fold 3 model alongside a beefier Pro. In this article, let’s take a quick look at both, their similarities, differences, expected price in Nepal, and availability details.

Vivo X Fold 3 Series: Overview

Design and Display

On the design side of things, there’s not a lot of deviation but you’ll still be able to distinguish the two. The vanilla Vivo X Fold 3 features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor while the Pro model hides its ultra-sonic tech under the display.

Moreover, the Pro is also beefier at 236 grams and rated IPX8 against water splashes. As such, it misses out on the lightest (in-ward) foldable title held by its base sibling (Vivo X Fold 3) at just 219 grams. That’s less than the popular bar flagships like the iPhone 15 Pro Max (221 grams), and the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (232 grams).

Don’t mistake the lightness for a lack of strength though as the X Fold 3 series is certified to withstand 500,000 folds with its lightweight carbon fiber hinge and also features the Swiss SGS five-star drop-resistant rating.

Talking of the display(s), both share identical setups. There’s a larger 8.03″ foldable OLED panel on the inside while the external one measures 6.53 inches. Both are 120Hz LTPO screens with a local peak brightness of 4,500 nits. Pixel-wise, you are getting sharp displays with pixel densities of ~412 and ~457 ppi on the outer and inner screens respectively. Besides that, you get all the goodies like HDR 10+ certification, Dolby Vision, and 1 billion colors.

Performance

Under the hood, the base Vivo X Fold 3 features last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor while the Pro variants ships with the latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. Both are 4nm processors manufactured by TSMC but the latter features more powerful cores at higher clocks and a better GPU + NPU. As for the memory, you can configure both with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage.

Camera

There’s a total of 5 cameras spread across the Vivo X Fold 3 foldable(s). The 50MP ultrawide and the 32MP selfie cameras (two) are shared between the models while the main and zoom lenses are buffed up in the Pro. The vanilla X Fold 3 features a 50MP 1/1.49” Sony sensor while its Pro sibling features a larger 1/1.3” OmniVision OV50H. The 50MP Sony portrait lens on the X Fold 3 is also replaced by a 64MP 3x persicope camera.

Battery and Extras

Fueling the 3rd gen Vivo foldables are 5,500 (base) and 5,700 (pro) mAh batteries with 80W and 100W fast charging support. The X Fold 3 pro also has wireless charging support for up to 50W. Vivo has announced a new tablet alongside vivo X Fold 3 and Fold 3 Pro. This is a literal behemoth with a large stature coupled with the most powerful MediaTek chipset there is right now. In a recent geopolitical change, China is on a move to ban the chipset from US companies like AMD and Intel. And following the news, stocks of chipmaking giants Intel and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) took a hit on Monday morning. China Bans AMD and Intel Overview

Chinese Government’s Technology Restrictions

The move comes from the Chinese government’s efforts to restrict foreign technology from its federal computers. This includes operating systems like Microsoft’s Windows and other database software produced overseas. Moreover, Beijing’s push for technological independence, termed xinchuang or “IT application innovation,” is a key component of China’s strategy across military, governmental, and state sectors. State-owned enterprises are mandated to transition to domestic technology providers by 2027, as directed by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission. Quarterly progress reports on IT system revamps have been initiated, although certain foreign technologies may still be permitted for use.

Currently, China has approved eighteen chips for use, all of which are from domestic companies. Among these approved entities are Huawei and state-backed Phytium, both of which are listed on the U.S. trade embargo.

Impact on U.S. Semiconductor Industry

Amidst the ongoing competition with China, the United States government is advancing its investments in chipmaking, with American semiconductor firms reaping the benefits. In parallel, Intel is among the recipients of funds from the CHIPS and Science Act, a $52.7 billion initiative aimed at bolstering domestic chip production.

The Chinese industry ministry, in late December, released a statement outlining three separate lists of CPUs, operating systems, and centralized databases deemed “safe and reliable” for a three-year period, all sourced from Chinese companies.

Performance and Memory

Powering this handheld is an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor (the same one you’d find on the ROG Ally). It is offered with up to 16GB LPDDR5X (7500 Mhz) RAM, up to 1TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 2242 SSD storage, and includes a micro SD slot for expanding storage capacity. Likewise, the device runs on Windows 11 while Lenovo says this handheld can reach a peak of 25W of TGP in custom mode.

Cooling mechanism

According to the company, the Legion Go’s fan can keep this thing at less than 25dB Quiet Mode. To cool things down, the Legion Go features a 79-bade fan and a couple of exhaust vents.

Moving on, the Lenovo Legion Go comes with detachable “TrueStrike” controllers, providing flexibility for different playstyles. It also has dual USB Type-C ports, allowing to charge the device and connect accessories simultaneously. These ports support DisplayPort 1.4 and Power Delivery 3.0.

Likewise, for additional connectivity, it offers WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. Poco, a sub-brand of Xiaomi has announced a “new” phone. This phone is a repackaging of the Redmi A3 which launched a while earlier. Let’s go ahead and discuss more on the Poco C61 including its expected price in Nepal.

Poco C61 Overview

Design and Display

As I have noted earlier, the Poco C61 is a reskin of the Redmi A3 and the design of the phone is almost the same as well. Given that, It comes in flat frames with a large centre-aligned circular camera island on the back. The Poco C61 also ships in the same three colours as the Redmi A3: Green, Blue, and Black. The green variant of the Redmi phone was available in a leather finish. However, that is not the case for the Poco offering — all the colour options ship with a glass back.

A 6.71-inch screen greets you on the front with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Moreover, the panel here is an LCD with HD+ resolution. In addition, it offers you a refresh rate of 90Hz, a touch sampling rate of 180Hz, and a peak brightness of 500 nits.

Performance

Under the hood, you get the MediaTek Helio G36 chipset, which is about a year old at this point. You see this processor in the Redmi A3 as well. It is an octa-core processor that comes with 12nm fabrication, and a peak clock speed of 2.2 GHz.

The Poco C61 got rid of the 3GB memory option which was available in its Redmi counterpart. Given that, it comes in two configurations altogether — 4GB + 64GB, and 6GB + 128GB. You can expand the storage to 1TB via a MicroSD card when you require more storage on your phone. Similarly, you can also virtually extend the RAM On the software front, it boots on the stock Android 14.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) is here, again with an Exynos chip

Samsung launched the original Galaxy Tab S6 Lite in 2020 and later reiterated it after two years. Now, they are once again updating this tablet for 2024. Words were already out that the upgrades on the latest iteration would be minimal. Let’s look deeper at the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024), including its expected price in Nepal.

Design and Display

The tablet carries the same design as its previous versions. As such, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) comes in a metallic body with a matte finish. In the meantime, it has a squircle camera cutout on the top corner while the rest of the body has company branding and other texts. This tablet ships in three colours: Grey, Mint, and Pink.

Moving on to the screen, you get a TFT panel that stretches 10.4 inches diagonally. The screen on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) is WUXGA+ in resolution with a colour depth of 16 million. Even though the company website does not mention this, we can still tell that the refresh rate on this thing will be 60Hz. Other than that, we do not have additional information on the screen capabilities.

Processor

Samsung does not mention outright the chipset the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) is running on. However, they do specify that it is an octa-core processor with peak clock speeds of 2.4GHz and 2.0GHz depending on the type of core. Based on that information, and preexisting rumour, the processor does indeed appear to be the Samsung Exynos 1280 chipset.

Previously, we got the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. Comparing both the chipsets on Nanoreview, we can see that Samsung’s silicon is slightly better than the Snapdragon processor in almost all aspects. However, Exynos has issues of its own like not being well-optimised, heating, and such. Anyhoo, the South Korean tech giant is opting for its in-house chips as much as possible. So, it is what it is.

Besides that, you get 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage on this tablet. Moreover, you expand the storage up to 1TB with a MicroSD card.

Camera and the rest

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) comes with an 8MP camera on the back while a 5MP shooter handles the front. Moreover, you get a 7,040 mAh battery in the tank. It also comes with a dual speaker setup with AKG Harman tuning for the audio. Additionally, you also get a 3.5mm headphone jack if you want to keep the audio to yourself.

This tablet comes in both LTE as well as WiFi-only variants. You also get Bluetooth v5.3 for further wireless connectivity. Other than that, it comes with S-pen support, security with Samsung Knox, and access to the Samsung Galaxy Ecosystem.

Lava launches the “Real Fastest Phone in the Segment” — O2

Lava is here with a “new” phone, which as per the company is the “Real Fastest Phone in the Segment”. Keeping the marketing statement aside, this phone is a mere repackaging of the Lava Yuva 3 Pro at a slightly cheaper price. Anyhoo, let’s get into further details of the Lava O2 including its expected price in Nepal.

Lava O2 Overview

Design and Display

As I mentioned earlier, the Lava O2 is the same phone as the Lava Yuva 3 Pro. These two phones are similar down to the teeth. This stands true even in the phone’s design and colours. That being said, it comes in a flat design with the camera island covering the top corner on the back. Meanwhile, the back of this phone features an AG glass layering. The Lava O2 ships in Imperial Green, Majestic Purple, and Royal Gold colour options.

Moving on to the front, you get a 6.5-inch screen with an LCD panel. The display comes in HD+ resolution while offering a 90Hz refresh rate. Other than that, it is also capable of displaying 16 million colours.

Performance

Under the helm of Lava O2 is the UNISOC T616. This processor is over three years old at this point. Despite that, the company boasts that it outdoes the likes of the MediaTek Helio G36 and even the G85 by a respectable margin. However, AnTuTu scores don’t paint the entire picture. This is why you still cannot expect the phone to give you a great performance. Just enough to get you by, under normal usage.

Additional hardware on this phone includes an 8GB RAM and 128GB ROM. This is on the lower end by 2024 standards, which is why you get expandability options on the Lava O2. This means that you can virtually double the RAM while the storage can be expanded up to 512GB with a MicroSD card. On the software front, the phone boots on Android 13 with no ads or bloatware.

Camera and the rest

The Lava O2 houses two cameras on the back, the primary of which is a 50MP sensor. Meanwhile, you also get a measly auxiliary unit that the company just labels “AI”. This suggests that this lens is nothing but a decor. On the other end, you get an 8MP shooter that also doubles down as a face scanner.

In the tank, this phone packs a 5,000 mAh battery while supporting 18W fast charging. It comes with dedicated slots for two SIM cards while offering 4G connectivity. Additionally, you also get dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0 support. The Lava O2 has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for further security. Lastly, it comes with the beloved 3.5mm headphone jack.
