Vivo has just launched its latest budget phone in China, and its specs look pretty promising. So the new Vivo Y500 has “durability” written all over it with a whole bunch of IP ratings and even drop resistance. And if that wasn’t enough, it also impresses with a giant 8,200 mAh battery. So in this article, we will look at everything the Vivo Y500 brings, including its expected price in Nepal.
Vivo Y500 Overview
Design and durability
Starting with the design, the Y500 has a familiar look with a circular camera module that we’ve seen on a bunch of Vivo phones lately. Like the Vivo Y300 and the Y300 Pro+ in the budget crowd, or the Vivo X200 and the Vivo X200 Pro (review) in the flagship lineup.
But durability is where this phone truly shines since it is Vivo’s first phone with an IP69+ rating. On top of the regular IP68 / IP69 rating. And according to Vivo, that IP69+ rating means the Y500 has survived three consecutive rounds of IPX9 testing. Whereas it even came out unharmed after being submerged in 1.5 meters of water for 24 hours.
The Vivo Y500 is tough against drops as well. It has Vivo’s 360-degree drop cushioning design with “Diamond Shield Glass” for the display, while you can even pair it with an airbag anti-fall phone case. The Y500 is also available in three attractive color options: Blue, Purple, and Black.
Display
Getting to the display, the Vivo Y500 has a 6.77-inch 120Hz AMOLED panel. It also boasts 5,000 nits of peak (HDR) brightness and a fast 3,840Hz PWM dimming to prevent screen-flickering. Not only that, but Vivo has also secured SGS Low Blue Light certification for this phone.
And we’re also expecting a great multimedia experience on the Y500 since stereo speakers have also been upgraded with apparently a “700%” volume boost.

Performance and battery
Powering the Vivo Y500 is MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300 chip, which is a decent upgrade from Dimensity 6300 on its predecessor. The Vivo Y300. Well, technically, the Vivo Y400 also exists, but that one didn’t launch in China.
As for the software, the Y500 runs on Android 15 with OriginOS 5 on top. You can get this phone with either 8/12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. And unfortunately, there is no option to attach a microSD card here.
Anyway, as I mentioned before, one of the biggest highlights of the Vivo Y500 is in the battery department. This guy has a gigantic 8,200 mAh silicon-carbon battery that Vivo says is good for 18.4 hours of continuous usage. It supports 90W wired charging, reverse wired charging to top up other devices, and also bypass charging.
Cameras and the rest
Getting to the cameras, unfortunately, there are no upgrades this time. The Vivo Y500 brings the same dual rear camera setup that consists of a 50MP primary and a 2MP depth unit, alongside an 8MP selfie shooter.
Moreover, this budget phone supports dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.4. This is also a 5G phone, for which Vivo has even developed a special 360° antenna for better signal reception, no matter where you are.
