Rabbit R1 is an AI companion that can book flights for you

A new startup by the name of Rabbit demoed their AI-powered “R1” device at CES and it’s intriguing, to say the least. For starters, it runs on the company’s RabbitOS void of the construct we know as ‘apps’, and is based on their Large Action Model (LAM). There’s a lot to talk about, so let’s get right into the Rabbit R1, its features, pricing details, and availability. 

Rabbit R1 Overview: 

The Hardware

Designed in collaboration with Teenage Engineering, the Rabbit R1 is a portable smart gadget that comes in a bright orange colorway (leuchtorange). It features a small 2.88-inch touchscreen alongside an analog scroll wheel to the side. But the primary way of interacting with the R1 is via the ‘Push-To-Talk’ button on the right. The R1 also features a “360-degree rotational eye” which is basically just a camera that can either face you or turn around. So, although not quite a smartphone, the R1 packs in all the essentials required for a speech/touch-based system.

The LAM Model 

The most intriguing part about Rabbit and the R1 is what they have decided to call the “LAM model”. Unlike Large Language Models (LLMs) powering most of the AI products and services we have seen so far, Rabbit’s Large Action Model (LAM) can actually take actions and initiatives on behalf of the user. 

Founder and CEO Jesse Lyu said that they have trained their LAM on thousands of interfaces and it can effectively navigate through apps, web portables, and their UI without a worry. This enables the R1 to do things like book flights, tickets to movies, and even call you an Uber.

RabbitOS and LAM

Furthermore, you can query it about the weather, current affairs, or a random thought just like you’d a normal voice assistant. That’s not all though. 

Another cool feature of the Rabbit R1 is that you can teach it to do things. Similar to macros, you can record yourself doing a task and have the R1 learn and replicate it. In the demo, Lyu had the R1 learn how to generate images using Midjourney in Discord and also to use the lasso tool to remove watermarks in Photoshop. As such, although I am quite skeptical, this could be super useful to automate a series of actions in the future. 

The Eyes

There’s also the camera I mentioned earlier. It faces you for the most part but can turn to recognize objects and scan stuff. An amazing demo was how the R1 could take a look at the leftovers in a fridge and suggest a recipe with low calories within just a couple of moments. That means it can not just recognize food items, but also how rich they are, and which things go together and which don’t, all while following a different set of instructions about how the recipe needs to be ‘low-calorie’. It also seemingly recognizes people and celebrities as shown with a ‘Rick Astley’ demo.

You can of course take pictures with the R1 (8MP) and record 1080p videos at 24 fps.

Under the hood

We took a quick look at the external hardware but under the hood, powering the Rabbit R1 is a modest MediaTek Helio P35 processor. This 2.3 GHz chip was quite popular among budget smartphones a while ago so it’s not surprising to see here. For storage, there’s 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. 

The Rabbit R1 also has a micro SD card for storage expansion and a sim card slot for 4G LTE connections alongside Bluetooth 5, and dual-band WiFi. The company mentions all-day battery life for the R1 with its 1,000 mAh cell. 

Will the Rabbit R1 replace smartphones? 

When asked if he thought his innovation would replace phones, Lyu mentioned that he doesn’t want the Rabbit R1 to replace the smartphone – at least not right now. And although the demo was very impressive, I am in a similar boat. Sure, it can do all these cool things, but smartphones have become integral to our daily lives from being your source of news and entertainment to your shopping portal and bank vault. It’ll be interesting to see where this goes though and I’ll be following it very closely.

Lenovo first introduced the new IdeaPad Flex 5 series at the MWC (2022) alongside other 2-in-1 convertible and detachable laptops. It is finally available in Nepal. In this article, we will discuss the specs, features, latest price, and availability of the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 (2022) in Nepal.

Design and Display

The 2022 iteration of the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 is available in two screen sizes. There is a 14-inch for people who value compact and a 16-inch for users that want that extra screen real estate. Irrespective of the display size, you get a WUXGA multi-touch IPS screen. It’s a glossy screen with 300 nits of brightness and 45% NTSC coverage. There are models with even higher resolution screens with up to 100% DCI-P3, but they are hard to find in a small market like Nepal’s.

You can use the IdeaPad Flex 5 as a traditional laptop and a tablet. The laptop also supports tent and stand mode, courtesy of the 360-degree hinge. It is compatible with Lenovo Digital Pen, but users must buy it separately since it is not part of the package.

Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 16” is mostly plastic, except for the cover, which uses adonized aluminum. It is 18.7mm thick and weighs around 2.1 kg. The 14” model is slightly thinner and lighter. It even has an all-plastic model that is even more portable.

The 14” and 16” models of the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 differ in the keyboard department as well. Because of its size limitation, 14” doesn’t have a dedicated numeric keypad. Otherwise, both keyboards have white backlit and are accompanied by mylar touchpads. There is even a touch-style fingerprint scanner lying in isolation on the palm rest.

Above the keyboard lies the front-facing stereo speakers with Dolby Audio support. The top bezel is home to an FHD webcam with a dedicated privacy shutter.

Performance and Memory

The IdeaPad Flex 5 16” available in Nepal packs the power of the latest Intel Core i7-1255U processor. Based on Intel’s new hybrid architecture, it brings 2 performance, 8 efficiency cores, and a total of 12 threads. Likewise, it boasts a max clock speed of up to 3.5GHz and a 12MB cache. Lenovo even offers the laptop with 12th Core i3 and Core i5 mobile processors in the global market.

Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 series is available in 8GB and 16GB RAM variants. There is no prospect of future upgrades as the LPDDR4x sticks are soldered onto the motherboard. Likewise, the single storage slot can be fitted with up to 1TB SSD.

JBL has announced its Live 3 series of TWS earbuds with a…. touchscreen? Yep! Similar to what we saw in last year’s Tour Pro 2, Live Buds 3; Flex 3; and Beam 3 all feature a screen on their charging cases. So in this article, let’s talk a bit about the newly launched JBL Live Buds 3, its design, specifications, expected price in Nepal, and availability. 

JBL Live Buds 3 Overview:

The JBL Live Buds 3 is a part of the new Live 3 series which includes similar TWS earbuds like the Beam 3 and the Flex 3. They offer a similar feature set with slightly different form factors while not deviating from the price.

Design and Display

The first thing you notice about JBL’s Live Buds 3 is of course– the display. It’s a 1.45-inch LED touch display that can show notification alerts, act as multimedia control, or even view texts and calls. Whether it’s a gimmick or super useful is for you to decide, but hey it’s there and it’s in your face.

As for endurance, the buds should last you for about 10 hours without ANC. With the case, you can hope to get about 40 hours of playback. Moreover, they charge pretty fast as well where a quick 10 min plug will yield about 4 hours of audio.

With every other brand getting into the rush of launching new phones, Honor has also taken the curtains off from the Honor Magic 6 Series. Here, we’ll be talking about the vanilla Honor Magic 6, its specs, features, and expected price in Nepal.

Honor Magic 6 Overview:

Design and Display

The Magic 6 boasts a flat frame design with slightly curved edges. The metal frame is 8.1mm thick, while the phone weighs 206 grams. The rear side looks aesthetically pleasing with the circular camera module housed in a square metal frame. Honor ships this guy in five shades: Qilian Snow, Sea Lake Green, Wheat Wave Green, Flowing Cloud Purple, and Velvet Black.
