The Pixel Fold was the first foldable smartphone from Google, which was launched back in June 2023. It mostly received positive reviews across the globe. And Google is bringing its successor, probably in the Google annual hardware unveiling event happening in October 2024. But it will have the Pixel 9 Pro Fold moniker instead of the Pixel Fold 2, which is kinda head scratching, right? Why the leap?
Technically, everyone will assume the successor of the Pixel Fold to be the Pixel Fold 2. But the recent leaks are pointing towards a straight leap to the number 9, that too with a Pro moniker. As of now, there are no strong clues regarding this leap, but Google might provide some ‘Pro’ features on it, only time can tell.
Renders are here already
Popular tipsters Onleaks and Smartprix have already brought CAD-based renders of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. For now, the notable difference lies at the rear side. You can see a rectangular camera module, with two cameras on the top and the other two on the bottom. The main display also seems to have a thinner bezels than the existing Pixel Fold. But, it’s an early render so, things might change anytime in the upcoming times.
Google Tensor G3 or G4
Since Google will likely announce the Pixel 9 Pro Fold in October, there is a good chance of this foldable guy packing the upcoming Tensor G34 chip. To note, the Tensor G3 used with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro arrived with a bunch of generative AI features. So, it’s safe to assume that the G4 would pack more AI features and improved CPU and GPU performance.
Reports are also coming in about this upcoming foldable phone from Pixel is being tested with 16 gigs of memory and a faster UFS 4.0 storage. On the contrary, the Pixel Fold uses a UFS 3.1 storage. And the upcoming foldable will boot on Android 15.

Improved cameras
Pixel phones are known for their exceptional camera quality. So, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is sure to pack an improved camera setup. The current-gen Pixel Fold rocks a 48MP primary camera, 10.8MP telephoto lens, and 10.8MP ultrawide sensor. Google might bump the camera resolutions with some interesting AI tweaks from the Tensor G4.
Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold Launch and Availability
