Apple launches new Mac Studio with M3 Ultra and M4 Max chips

0

Apple has unveiled its 2025 Mac Studio, a compact desktop workstation featuring the new M4 Max chip alongside the M3 Ultra. This update replaces the previous M2 Max and M2 Ultra models from 2023. The new Mac Studio sits between the Mac Mini and Mac Pro in Apple’s lineup, targeting creative professionals, developers, and data scientists. This article will discuss everything about the latest

Mac Studio Overview

The 2025 Mac Studio maintains its compact form factor while delivering significant performance improvements. The device features either an M4 Max or M3 Ultra chip, providing substantial computing power for demanding tasks. Additionally, it supports up to five external displays and includes multiple connectivity options.

Furthermore, the new Mac Studio comes with macOS Sequoia, which includes Apple Intelligence features such as writing tools, image generation, and Siri enhancements. The system also includes a backlit Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and either a Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad.

Performance

The M4 Max chip is built on a 3nm process and delivers up to 2.5x faster CPU and 4x faster GPU performance compared to the latest AI PC chips. Meanwhile, the M3 Ultra doubles the M3 Max’s capabilities with up to 32-core CPU and 80-core GPU.

Mac studio 2025 performance

Both chips feature Neural Engines for AI tasks, with the M4 Max housing a 16-core version and the M3 Ultra containing a 32-core unit. This hardware enables the Mac Studio to handle complex workflows like large language models and advanced video processing.

Memory and Storage

The M4 Max offers a memory starting at 36GB, which can be upgraded to 48GB, 64GB, or 128GB of unified memory. In comparison, the M3 Ultra begins with a much larger 96GB of unified memory, upgradeable to 256GB or even 512GB. The M4 Max boasts a memory bandwidth of up to 273GB/s, marking a 75% increase over the M3 Pro and double the performance of AI-focused PC chips. Meanwhile, the M3 Ultra achieves even higher bandwidth thanks to its dual-chip architecture, reaching up to 800GB/s in some configurations.

When it comes to storage, the M4 Max starts at 512GB SSD, with options to upgrade to 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, or 8TB. The M3 Ultra, on the other hand, begins at 1TB SSD, with upgrades available to 2TB, 4TB, 8TB, or a massive 16TB, offering more storage options right from the base model.

Connectivity Options

The Mac Studio includes four Thunderbolt ports (Thunderbolt 5 for M4 Max models or Thunderbolt 4 for M3 Ultra), two USB-A ports, HDMI, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 10Gb Ethernet port. For wireless connections, it features Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

The Thunderbolt 5 ports on M4 Max models provide data transfer speeds of up to 120Gb/s, doubling the capacity of Thunderbolt 4 connections.

Why Apple Launched the M3 Ultra So Late (2025)?

There are whispers that Apple’s delay in launching the M3 Ultra in 2025 might be tied to a mix of manufacturing issues and strategic decisions. Sources suggest TSMC’s 3nm process faced some yield problems, causing production hiccups, while the M3 Ultra’s complex design, requiring two M3 Max chips, may have added extra challenges. Rumor has it that Apple’s usual 18-month product cycle also played a role, pushing the M3 Ultra’s release to better align with the Mac Studio and Mac Pro refreshes. With the M3 for laptops and the A17 Bionic for iPhones taking priority in 2023, the M3 Ultra seemed to take a backseat for a while.

There are also rumors circulating that Apple used the extra time to fine-tune the M3 Ultra’s performance, especially for AI and pro workflows, making sure it was ready for prime time. Some even speculate that Apple may have delayed the launch to better position the M3 Ultra against AMD and Intel’s latest high-core-count processors. Economic factors like tariffs and production cost adjustments are also believed to have played a role in the timing, which also suggests Apple was waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE (+) might launch soon!

The Galaxy Tab S9 FE became one of the best budget-friendly Android tablets. And now, quite obviously, the company is planning to continue this lineup by adding a successor series. Here, we are talking about the upcoming  Galaxy Tab S10 FE and FE+. There are some fresh rumors about the specifications of these upcoming devices. Let’s dive into the details.

Galaxy S10 FE Series Overview

The FE series has always been the go-to for those seeking an affordable tablet with a similar experience to high-end models. The upcoming S10 FE series will follow this trend. While these new tablets will look like the S9 FE models, some key changes are expected.

Design and Display

The Galaxy S10 FE and S10 FE+ will closely resemble the Galaxy Tab S9 FE with a plain, sleek design. The FE+ model will measure 300.5mm x 194.7mm and be 6mm thick. These models will come in Gray, Silver, and Blue colors.

Deutsche Telekom is soon launching an AI phone with Perplexity

At MWC 2025, Deutsche Telekom announced its upcoming AI phone. For those who are not familiar with the company, Deutsche Telekom is a German-based company that is also one of the largest telecommunication providers in Europe. They operate their smartphone business through their T-Mobile company. The company has collaborated with Perplexity AI to design this phone. Let’s get into the depth of it.

Deutsche Telekom AI Phone Overview

The AI phone is designed to be “app-less,” controlled mainly by voice commands. You’ll be able to book flights, make restaurant reservations, call a taxi, and shop, all without switching between apps. This is pretty impressive, and it seems like a huge step toward simplifying smartphone use. The phone is being developed in collaboration with Perplexity, Picsart, and other partners and will feature a new AI assistant app called “Magenta AI.”

Deutsche Telekom’s phone features

The phone will run a custom Magenta AI operating system, which replaces the usual app-based interface with Perplexity Assistant. You can interact with the phone using voice commands, typing, or even using the camera to perform tasks. For example, you could tell it to translate text or search for something using your camera, much like Apple’s Visual Intelligence feature. This sounds pretty convenient and a lot more seamless than constantly jumping between apps, don’t you think?

Hardware and Rest

As for the hardware, Deutsche Telekom hasn’t revealed much. But from the images, it looks like the phone will be a budget or midrange Android device. It has thick bezels on the top and bottom and a pink sleep/wake button, which gives it a bit of character.

Deutsche Telekom Display

Availability

We will officially get to see this device later this year, and it will offer access to Perplexity Assistant, Google Cloud AI, ElevenLabs, Picsart, and a suite of other AI tools. Deutsche Telekom also confirmed that the AI features will be integrated into the Mein Magenta app, which can be downloaded from Google Play. Overall, it will be exciting to see how this phone will reshape our experience with AI and smartphones.

GlocalMe introduces world’s first smartphone for pets!

Well, hearing about the phone with this chipset and that camera sensor is not something new at this point. But you know what’s new? A PETPHONE. You heard me, folks. At this year’s MWC, GlocalMe unveiled its smartphone, which is specifically designed for your pet! Let’s talk about this device in depth.

PetPhone Overview

While wearables for pets aren’t a new concept, a full-fledged smartphone for pets is definitely a whole different ball game. GlocalMe, a global leader in mobile data-sharing, presented its latest innovation under the theme “Global First Network,” which focuses on connecting IoT, people, and pets. The PetPhone comes in the form of a collar that can recognize sounds like barks or other noises pets make.

PetPhone on a cat

For example, if your dog seems stressed, the device alerts you letting you respond with your voice to comfort them from a distance. With features like PawTalk and sound play, you can keep tabs on your pet’s mood and calm them down when needed. PawTrack helps you track your pet’s movements, making it easier to find them with a simple click. Moreover, the geofence feature in this device sends an alert when your pet leaves their safe zone, and the collar has an inbuilt light to help locate your pet in the dark or play a ringtone to grab their attention.

GlocalMe PetPhone

Additional Features

The PetPhone has some additional features, like AI-powered live calls where pets can initiate communication with specific gestures. The device also tracks your pet’s activity and health, giving you insights into their well-being. Furthermore, the GPS, AGPS, LBS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and “Active Radar” systems make it easy to locate your pet wherever they are. On top of that, it’s rated IP68 for dust and water resistance. The PetPhone also supports CloudSIM, meaning it can be used in over 200 countries worldwide.

Other Innovations

In addition to the PetPhone, GlocalMe launched some other interesting products as well. The first one is eSIM TRIO, which combines OTA SIM, eSIM, and CloudSIM technologies, providing better connectivity. Another exciting product is the MeowGo G50 Max, a next-gen mobile Wi-Fi hotspot that guarantees seamless broadband connectivity. Lastly, there’s the CloudSIM Kit, a plug-and-play IoT solution that offers instant global 4G and 5G connectivity for smart devices without requiring hardware changes or software updates.

Final Thoughts

As a cat owner, I’m particularly excited about the PetPhone. I’ve lost my cat a couple of times, and this device could be a helpful gadget for me. On top of that, if she learns to recognize my voice, it could be a real comfort to her. But what I feel is that while the device seems lightweight (in the photos), it might feel a bit bulky for the pets to carry around their neck. So it may take some getting used to. But this thing is definitely worth trying. GlocalMe promises that the PetPhone is designed for global use and works in over 200 countries, which adds to the appeal. I can’t wait to get my hands on this product.

Lenovo announces Yoga Solar PC that can charge via the sun!

It’s MWC and Lenovo has showcased its proof of concept Yoga Solar PC that can supposedly power itself via the sun. It’s an interesting concept for sure but how practical is it actually? Let’s take a quick look at the Lenovo Yoga Solar PC and what it has to offer!

Lenovo Yoga Solar PC Overview

How does it work?

Lenovo’s Yoga Solar PC features 84 solar cells on its lid that absorb light from the surroundings to power the machine. Lenovo says that these solar cells serve to add some extra battery life to the PC instead of powering it completely.

Lenovo Solar PC Panel closeup
Image: The Verge

Sitting in the cafe under direct sunlight for just 20 minutes can generate enough energy to power this Solar PC for up to an hour of video playback. Lenovo has utilized ‘Back Contact Cell’ technology moving the brackets and gridlines to the back of the solar cells to maximize absorption rate. As such, this setup can effectively convert around 24% of the total light to electricity which is in the higher end in terms of efficiency for photovoltaic cells.

The company has also developed a ‘dynamic solar tracking’ system that constantly measures the solar panel’s intake to deliver power to the laptop. This system prioritizes utilizing the solar absorbed energy instead of the laptop’s own battery, extending overall endurance for the user.

The solar panel is detachable too, so you could very well just use (and power) it like a normal computer.

Taking the lid off

So, with the solar panel aside, what have we got? A pretty nice ultrabook I would say. Lenovo’s Yoga Solar PC runs on Intel’s efficient Lunar Lake platform providing you swift and long lasting performance on the daily. It weighs just around 1.22 kg (with the panel) making it portable enough for day-to-day carry without a hassle. It’s not too thick either at just 15mm slim, so safe to say that the panel itself isn’t adding too much of a bulk.

It sounds all exciting, but it’s not every day that you and I use our laptops in the sun, so what is the use then? Well, Lenovo says that the Yoga Solar PC can still make use of the panel even in low light conditions to generate some extra power. Roughly an hour of extra use at the end of an eight hour work day does sound pretty nice!

Lenovo Solar Kit

Lastly, Lenovo also announced the Solar Power Kit as a standalone gadget that can power all your tech devices via the sun. It’s got a foldable design with solar panels and battery attached to it and can deliver power via a Type-C cable.

Lenovo Yoga Solar PC: Few cents

At the end of the day, we are still quite far off from never charging our devices entirely but this does seem like a handy feature to have. The panel itself doesn’t add much of a bulk to the system and it seems viable even if there’s not a ton of light all the time. I could see this being useful while you are out camping or on a work trip where every little bit matters. It’s not going to make you rich rich (full battery), but there are a few cents to enjoy here!
